2011: GW2 For sure, RIFT I will wait and see after its released cause I am in beta right now and it doesn't feel special... at all. I like Aions setup much better than RIFT's but we'll see.
Possibly Darkfall if the DF 2010 patch ever gets released.
So, which MMOs did you play in 2010 (meaning at least a few weeks)?
In that list of yours, which one did you play the most?
And which one was the most fun?
And finally, which ones will you play in 2011?
I played Darkfall and WoW. A wierd mix, some might say - a hard core FFA PvP game made by a Greek indi company, and the polar opposite pulp hand-holding 'tic tac toe' game together?
Well, the simple answer is that I love playing WoW with my 11 year old nephew, and there is no way on earth I would allow him to play Darkfall (and would make it so by having his mom fobid it!). WoW is still fun in small doses, and wonderfully accessible as an enjoyable MMO for family / friends of varying ages and gameplay styles.
Darkfall for me has been a superb years' gaming. Many people complain about various aspects of Darkfall, claiming it's too grindy, too slow to level, too unforgiving if you mess up, the community too grumpy etc etc.
However I have not had any gaming experiences more intesnse, dynamic, or more memorable, that those in Darkfall - not since old school UO (pre-Trammel). The top end PvP is rediculously fun , and two simple questions to ask anyone who is complaining about Darkfall are these: 1. Have you captained a ship in a large sea battle? and 2. Have you been in a heavy cavalry charge in a massive battle between elite level players?
If they say 'no' to both, then honestly they have not seen some of the best things this game has to offer yet. They might even say 'people don't really play as cavalry!' - to which I would say 'we do, we did, and we won a siege because of our full Dragon armour clad charge on battle-horn mounts into the flank of an advancing mage army. GSO.'
I will keep playing Darkfall this year, because it is getting better over time (not worse) as the Developers continue to refine the implementation of their very strong vision for what this game should be and how it should play. Critically Aveturine do listen to thier players, and over time have implemented player-requested features. Not since UO old days have I seen GM's tease players in-game, they know many of the players by name, and we know them. Ganking a GM is still one of the holy grail achievements!
For all its crunchy issues in the past (bugs, exploiters, hackers, slow GM responses), the game now is now really hitting its stride, and in my view now boasts some of the best in-game GMs in any game I have ever played, huge lists of bugs stomped over time, new wolrd graphics for their hand-crafted world, working features far beyond most games wish-lists (destroyable player cities, sinkable player ships crafted by players, player houses and player vendors anyone?) with more to come. At times, you can even see people bank-sitting, find small wars over IDOC houses, and going where UO never got to, find ship battles (Darkfall has cannons on ships but no handguns/muskets) and even very large wars over control of continents!
A weakness from my point of view in Darkfall over the past year was the feeling that there was a lack of story. I know for my own part I have been spoiled by WoW's renaissance of stroytelling through missions and themed zones, and of course table top RPG's where the story can be infinitely richer than anything a game can code in. However with hindsight I can see that many of the player-driven stories that have arisen from the churning politics of war in Agon over the past year are simply amazing. As one player commented after a saga of unrequited love, hardship, triumph and betrayal between players through their avatars - it was completely Shakespearean (so much so he thought it had been made up, when it was indeed entirely real). Another aptly commented: it was a very Greek trajedy. It fell unplanned out of the unscripted collective and individual actions and reactions of players, and is indeed such a good story that over this next year I will be working it up into a novel.I can't say that about any other MMORPG game I have played this Century! Gah, now I feel old
If you are a hard core MMO gamer, you really should give Darkfall a go, and if you have been put off by the trolls on the offical DF forums you should do what 90% of Darkfall players do, and simply ignore 'Forumfall' (which is really better thought of as a troll pvp arena than a legitimate reflection of the game or its players!). As things stand, the 2 week free trial is only enough to get a glimpse of what this incredible and still improving game has to offer: a reviewer elsewhere commented 6 weeks was a better benchmark to get a feel of what this game has to offer, I agree. Aventurine is contemplating making character progression easier for people who are more casual gamers, and has implemented a limited off-line skilling system which is likely to be explanded. So if you have the time and inclination, jump on in and give it a go now - if your time is heavily committed, keep Darkfall on your list of games to watch this year - it could easily jump from 'good but....' to 'must have' for gamers who like Fantasy PvP.
- FF14... for 6 days (still don't know why I bought this game AFTER all the shite reviews, they were spot on.
- LOTRO... occasionally (lifer) but the tedium always makes me stop after a couple of days
- PotBS... still playing, but mainly for social reasons
2011
- PotBS, see above
- SW:TOR (please be good please be good please be good please be good please be good)
I've always liked PotBS because the strategic pace of the ship combat is awesome (even better if they sort out the rageboarding bollocks). Yes AVCOM is screwed and badly done, but I've got a really good Society and I like helping out the new people so it keeps me hooked... and now it doesn't even cost me anything to play which is great. I know it's a very flawed game in lots of ways, but it just has that "something".
2010: Guild Wars, Aion, Star Trek Online *Shudder*
2011: Guild Wars 2, SWTOR.
I'm mostly anticipating GW2 but since there's no guarantee it will even be out this year I should have some time to get enjoyment out of SWTOR. I may even run both games at the same time if I get hooked, but I don't get a lot of play time and it makes more sense to me to put the one with the sub fee on the backburner while I consume the GW2 content then renew my sub again.
Didn't play a lot, honestly. I mostly played GW, played some Global Agenda, played some Lotro, probably will continue at least some of them in the future. I'm not going to speculate on what I might be playing, I refuse to buy anything until it's been in the wild at least 4-6 months so it's unlikely I'll pick up anything new until late 2011 or early 2012, if it's worth it.
I must say I've enjoyed all four, but I've had the most fun in World of Warcraft while playing together with friends and family.
I'll hopefully be enjoying both SWTOR and GW2 through 2011. I'm looking forward to both games alot and can't wait until they release. I probably won't play much else in 2011 when it comes to MMORPGs.
Tc and rv become boring after year , rv is abonded by owner so no updates at all an player leaving this game.
Sold to Army is what i gonna play this year . That game have potentia , it got on 9th place of TOPRPG in 5 days . I didn't see any game did that before so i m placing my bet on that game .Playing from second day and already saw upgrades . Coders don't sleep at all .Love that game .
Will try to look more but probably thats the game i will play.
Guild wars been playing since it started and still not had enough of it

Fallen earth Very good game but sadly nothing to do once you get to lvl cap
Star Trek online Nowhere near as bad as most people say it is and its MUCH more fun than wow or eve will ever be. But has the same problem as FE it that theres nothing to do once you get to lvl cap.
2011

Why do you equal NASA with a monster computer?
In fact NASA will soon be eating the dust of private companies like Virgin Galactic.
Don't live in the past, embrace the future.

Played LOTRO from beta but when in fall of 2009 came out FE (i played from betas) i stayed there playing few and less few.
Tho my 3 month plan for LOTRO broke only in april 1st i logged into LOTRO only to chat with kin.
Game I played and still play is FE. A BIG relief after nearly ten tears of elves[object Window]n[object Window]dwarves.
K, company is small and promised end-game is coming maybe in Q2 this year, but still BEST crafting system in every MMO.
Plus nice big world to adventure in and a lot of freedom, and playing on markets I can find fun still.
Looked into STO in beta - ...... .......... ....... (fill da blanks)
Now participating in Rift Closed Beta (yea, tomorrow we start 4th)... Some kind of mixture of WoW and WAR.
Both games I never played (cuz there was much better ones) and maybe I sub for a few for it.
Waiting for TSW and WoD and if it break thru court battles then Fall-Out Online.
But still - most waiting for S4 in FE (Still hanging atm in FE)

2010:
WoW
Eve
Gemstone IV (an old MUD that I still enjoy)

Global Agenda (really enjoying the pvp)
Black Prophecy (the screenies make me drool)
Earthrise (can't wait)
SWTOR, GW2 (if they actually hit the shelves)
Tera (maybe)
WoW and Eve again as well, most likely. I've spent time in both those games every year since '04.
2012: (hopefully)
Arche Age!
The Secret World!
World of Darkness!
In some ways I'm looking forward more to 2012/2013 than the rest of this year.
Playing: FFXIV, EVE
