GW2 - "the game holds the highest sustained hype ever on our site."

You can say that again, I hope it is well deserved but only time, not hype will tell.

  • holifeetholifeet Member Posts: 532

A month ago I would have disagreed and asked how anyone could ignore Rift. Then I played it.

GW2 will be the biggest because it changes MMO-things. It will be a fresh approach.

All hail the Pixel, for it is glorious Orange!

I'm not surprised. GW was a very successful game and GW2 has a big fanbase to start with + a lot of new people who properly inform themselves. Anet doesn't hype the game it's the playerbase and if you say "we're in for a big dissapointment" you have absolutely NO CLUE what you are talking about.

I guess the modified quote would be more suited for SW:TOR but I dont think many are expecting any truly innovative, in regards to MMORPGs, to come from Biowares first MMORPG.

Hey no stealing the line i'm using in my sig.

The innovating things i can think of for ToR would be the fully voiced over dialog

The idea you can change how quests play out

    The duck and cover system

The morphing system for your character.

    The companion system.

Seems pretty innovating to me.  but /shrug to each their own, poll is no surprise to anyone though, not even the people off site.  They called this miles ahead. happy to see swtor is 2 though.

I said innovative, in regards to MMORPGs. All those things you listed are single player features that could might as well be in a single player game so I dont consider those innovative for MMORPGs.

But, yeah, for sure SW:TOR will bring even more cool single player features, that is what Bioware are best at. But in regards to MMORPG features I am not seeing much, if anything, new.

SW:TOR will basically be Mass Effect 2 on steroids, with an optional multiplayer feature tagged on. Optional since I am sure you can solo almost everything in the game, as seems to be the norm these days.

Hope to god star wars hits it out of the park and not many people subscribe. Like my small close knit communities. Eliminates lot of the baddies.

If you think that, do stay away from the high end machine MMO's then. Clearly you enjoy your WoW's "blocky"  and outdated graphics. Whatever makes you happy.

Not true I still voted for GW2 after being in the SW:ToR Beta, it wasn't about quality but style of play, can't say any more than that because of the NDA.

LOL You already broke the NDA by saying you are in the beta so why bring up the lame NDA excuse? That is, if you are actually in the beta. No offense but we've all seen people who claim to be in betas when they aren't.

you people take gaming too friggen seriously.

From the looks of it GW2 community will give WOW communtiy run for money. There is always a downside to game which are free on monthly basis. Just check out Global Agenda for couple of days. You will know what i mean.

Who could have thought that WOW could bring super power like USA to its knees?

I wouldn' t make judgement on a community based only on experiences from this website. Every game here has it's fair share of trolls/shills/whiners/elitists/haters/fanboys ...

Never said that other MMOS don't have these type of people. But i have been playing MMO for long time and i have never seen such a hostile community for a MMO which is atleast 6 months away from release. And no it is not just these forums i am talking about.

GW2 is going to be my main MMO along with SWTOR and Rift in 2011 but honestly i am not too excited about the community part.

with SWTOR we know, what we most propably get. regarding GW2, there is still some hope.

this is one of the most incorect statements i have seen on here...

perhaps you got me wrong. for me it is pretty obvious, what Bioware will deliver. we will get 8 single-player-games in one box. add Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3 and you will get 10 Biowaregames in just 3 boxes this year. isnt that great? at least it is predictable.

regarding GW2 there is still hope, that we will get an MMO. but it is not fully clear, how they will implement some features and if they can avoid the main mistakes of the theme-parks of the last decade.

played: Everquest I (6 years), EVE (3 years)
months: EQII, Vanguard, Siedler Online, SWTOR, Guild Wars 2
weeks: WoW, Shaiya, Darkfall, Florensia, Entropia, Aion, Lotro, Fallen Earth, Uncharted Waters
days: DDO, RoM, FFXIV, STO, Atlantica, PotBS, Maestia, WAR, AoC, Gods&Heroes, Cultures, RIFT, Forsaken World, Allodds

Anticipation and hype eh? I have heard it all before.

These words just sell boxes, so are good for the producers of games, not for the players. All MMO players should know by now that these words are closely associated with huge disappointments.

I just hope that we get a decent MMO this year.

GW  2 seems to be a cool MMO.  The new archetypes of characters without a healer its very nice and will make a great diference in how to look for classes, imo.

    Go to hell!

SWToR - Mass Effect MMO - there even might be a Dragon Age Online..

Honestly, I would rather have Bioware buy the licensing rights back from Atari to make a Baldur's Gate or other Forgotten Realms MMORPG!

Meh, i figured they are innovating because they really haven't been done to any great extent in an MMO before, but whatever.  Innovating or not, it sounds really cool and a lot of fun. I looked at GW2 and it just didn't seem all that interesting to me, at least in comparasion to ToR, but to each their own

As for the optional multiplayer.  Yeah you can solo most everything, but only if you really out level the group conent,  which has basically been the case for the last several years.  If you do something at it's required level, you'll need a group if you outlevel it by 5 or more levels then it becomes solo.  You also get less experience and loot is going to be weaker but thats what happens when you out level content.  I however don't think raids will be soloable nor pvp but seeing as you said almost i'm going to figure you meant most of the quests.

Don't get me wrong Gw2 sounds cool.  I'm just way more intersted in the stories (i loved the longest journey) BW is offering.  Like i've stated numerous times i'm probably going to pick GW2 up at some point i'm just not a major fan of it.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

The NDA clearly states you can admit you are in but everything else stays quiet. I haven't broken the NDA at all and won't. I was just pointing out the fallacy that all who played SW:TOR voted for it. I'm a bigger fan of GW2 because GW had me for 5 years and I have a lot of respect for Anet, I think they deserve the award for most anticipated.

Well, for GW2's sake, I hope this year's Most Anticipated Game is capable of out-performing last year's Most Anticipated Game: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/446/feature/3904

  • NethermancerNethermancer Member Posts: 520

There is no MMO coming out in 2011 that i am excited for other then GW2. It is the only MMO that looks like it will be a step up from other MMO's on the market today.

    Playing: PO, EVE
    Waiting for: WoD
Favourite MMOs: VG, EVE, FE and DDO
Any person who expresses rage and loathing for an MMO is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.

Well, that can't be too hard. Also, SquareEnix hasn't got a history of making games with massive appeal, they were more of a small niche. And apparantly, the IP was already degrading.

All I have to say is facebook fans.

    SWTOR has about 240K

    GW2 has about 124K

    DCU about 30k

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

None of the above is one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard of when it comes to voting!

The way I see it when you are voting and you don't like the candidates is 1. Don't Vote, 2. Vote for the lesser of evils/or your party lines/leaning 3. Write in your own candidate

Voters shouldn't be given a choice of none of the above. To me none of the above means "my candidate for MMO of the year that DID launch in 2010 is not listed here". But how many people that voted this option can actually give the name of an MMO that launched in 2010 that deserves the award? If anyone could, then the option should have been Other MMO and the voter should have been able to write in the name of that MMO as a candidate.

Yes, 2010 was a bad year for MMO launches, but the games that did launch in 2010 should be weighed on. There are players that do like some of these games and their voices should be heard. A president does not simply go unelected just because a majority of voters don't like the options.
