Certainly wasn't expecting SWTOR to lose this bout and with such big difference. I also fail to see the charm in GW 2, just another boring fantasy game in the midst of hundreds upon hundreds of others just like it (the gameplay videos have yet to show anything special)

Please tell me, what makes the SW:ToR gameplay videos special?
My most anticipated MMORPG of 2011 ISNT ON THIS LIST
a console-FPS that is linked to a CURRENT non-fps MMOrpg. This game is called DUST 514, and has been 4.1 years in development. It is linked to EvE online.
Basic concept: The console care bears fight using clones on the planets of eve in a bid for control over sections of the planet per battle. Much isnt known, much is known if you look hard enough, its set to release in 2011 i believe.
GW has some seriously dedicated fans. Even those that finished the quests/expansions in GW1 and stopped playing the game loved it and will flock to GW2 to play the next storyline. Some never stopped playing GW1, no matter how old the content is by now. There are way too many people on these forums who underestimated the dedication of GW fans. SW:TOR has a seriously dedicated following as well but I don't hold them in the same light as the GW fanatics. This is simply not a surprise to me at all.
Sadly I'm more excited about Rift, but that's probably just because it's launching soon. I hope all of these games do well and deliver on both the promises they've made and the ones we're made to ourselves for them.
Not really a surprise considering the number of GW2 fanboys and shills on this site. I'll probably play it but then get bored with it quickly just like I did with GW1.
It would be funny if we find that ~28.4% of the posts in this thread are excuses why GW2 shouldn't have won.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
Two games bringing nothing new are the top two games. Cool.
People know next to nothing about GW2, and maybe a tiny bit more about TOR, praise is sung solely about GW2. Cool!
I will play both games and like both games. I know that's something most people can't handle.
And even though people here know so little about GW2, they defend it about as much and as hard as people here bash on WoW. So pretty much no surprise GW2 got the honors. As was posted before, they are in an elite company of past winners... Warhammer, AoC, FF, Darkfall. All games that were worthy of all of us to be playing now.

Know so little about GW2? That shows how much you know... >.> Obviosuly, you haven't even bothered to check up on GW2, becuase if you did, you would know their is lots of info.

While I thought just through the sheer strength of numbers TOR would pull this one out it doesn't surprise me that GW2 won it, hopefully now it doesn't end up winning biggest dissapointment of 2011.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
GW2s will deliver.. I expect it to be one of the most polished MMO's released but i don't think we'll see it until late 2012, when SWTOR and Rift have already released way before it.. Still, i'am anticipateing it a lot i jus' voted for SWTOR because i don't think it'll see the light of day in 2011.
Currently Playing: Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
I don't really believe GW 2 will be that anticipated overall over Star Wars. I'd wait till both games are launched to see if this poll holds true. GW 2 probably has more hardcore gamers interested but I'd bet SWTOR might still get more people cause of the IP and name recoginition that GW simply wont have. I'm not talking just gamers I'm talking person on the street types who dont know all that much about video games or MMOs who'd go "huh" if you asked them about guild wars but would recognize the name Star Wars.
Well if you want my opinions not really votes, for the TOP 3 games on this list I would have to say, not in any order either really. Rift, Tera, and Guild Wars 2, and the reason why. These games have had a lot of Artwork put into these games. I have not played Tera, but based on the actual game play I have seen it looks like it maybe good.
Rift I played in Beta also looks like a bit of a promise, I can't say that the game will be wow killer, or anything, but what counts is that they tried their best to make the game, and added some Unique Features to the game. The only thing I did not like about this game is some of the armors, and I hope they add customization later or something so people can get different looks without a cash shop.
Guild Wars 2 looks like a good game too based on the high Detailed Snapshots I have seen, and my experience in Guild Wars.
Although the only thing I can say is that if Any of these games add Cash Shop items, Charge people for character Customizations, or Unfair items besides Expansions, or Unlocks like in Guild Wars, then I will quit the game, because I do not support paying insane prices Plus a monthly fee to pay a game when this should come included in our subscriptions. So we will just have to wait and see how good these companies are at running a MMO, they could be great, or they could fail.
I honestly don't think that SWTOR will make it based on leaked stuff I have seen but will have to wait and see.
Most people who will play SWTOR don't scorge these forums. SWTOR players will be mainstream gamers.
I guartentee GW2 will win every poll on mmorpg, but overall, SWTOR will have, or at least launch, with with MAGNITUDES more players
Want more proof that these polls don't mean anything?
Look at Massively's most anticipated MMO
SWTOR beat GW2 on that website. And as someone mentioned earlier, SWTOR has twice as many followers on facebook, and GW2 is WAAYYY more overhyped than SWTOR because Bioware hasn't made their big hype push yet.
In addition, the SWTOR trailer has SIX TIMES more views than the GW2 trailer
MMOs played: WoW, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars, Planetside, Global Agenda, Star Trek Online, RIFT, Everquest 2, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, EvE online, APB Best MMO Companies: Trion Worlds, ArenaNet, CCP Worst MMO Companies: Electronic Arts
It's funny when WoW was very popular I was literally the only one out of a good amount of people who played guild wars. The PvP in that game kept me going. So much fun, so much skill and timing is involved and I just love those style graphics. Im very excited for GW2, definitely a promising title, and we can jump! (i think?)
Comments
Not surprised in the least.
TOR looks like it simply will not deliver. Better luck next time Bioware.
Fixed it for you, wouldn't want you stating your opinion as fact now.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.
Give me your cristal ball mr wizard.
Fix't
Hey i was just trying to help you, no reason to get emotional abou it, i don't care what anyone says. Be my guess, won't hurt ToR chances one bit.

I'm so bad for laughing at this.

WoW, GW2 didn't see that comin. lol ArenaNet you invented pownage.
Long live Guild Wars.
What is your story?
Looks like ArenaNet actually does care that they won this award, as well as many other.

I'm sick of Midevil Fantasy. my vote was SW:ToR.

wow 42% by guild wars 2.
