I bought the digital CE + 6 months game, the founder game time discount is great in my opinion. Like the above poster Im pretty confidant its money well spent after the betas.
Alright, so I just spent all weekend playing this game and I have to say that I was thoroughly impressed:
1. In my opinion this game took all of the most successful elements of all of the major MMOs out there right now and put them together in one game. Item collections like EQ2, Achievements like WoW, Animations like GW1, Soul (skill) trees like Diablo/WoW . . . just so many elements to the game look like a mix match of everything that just . . . works AND that people enjoy (although there are no "hardcore" elements like we remember from UO, AC1 and EQ1).
2. The game was flat-out stable, period. I was on a high/full population server and never had a problem with lag. I dropped to 26 FPS on occasion but I was playing on full graphics (custom, full-everything) so I expected that (in fact, I expected it to throw my computer in the garbage).
3. From questing to rifts, I found that I was never bored. You can participate in a Rift if you like or just keep on questing, it's up to you. You even get the opportunity to open rifts, which is fun. I ran up and just started killing critters when a Rift opened near me and left before it closed to continue a quest, no big deal. Very fun.
4. The game is action packed and I found all of the animations to be fluid without being so overly-dramatic that you wonder at the human possibility of the move physically. Some of the animations were a bit over the top (i.e. getting struck by a lightning storm when you level or accepting/completing a quest being followed by a clash of steel stating exactly that, "QUEST ACCEPTED!!!" ::: slam, clang, explosion :::), but not intolerable.
5. The game doesn't leave you guessing quest-wise either. There are quest markers and pointers galore, so you don't have to get too involved in the storyline. This is not good for us hardcore MMOers but it's not a deal-killer. They quests are a good read if you take the time.
6. I think the best feature of the game was that while I was playing I was actually having fun. I logged in and nothing stood out that said, "This is crap." I didn't jump 30ft into the air, the screen didn't explode with constant animation fodder (no more than I previously mentioned) and over-all the environment wasn't silly or hap-hazardly thrown together.
If you like WoW, EQ2, GW, etc . . . you'll genuinely like this game. It takes all of the best elements of all of the aforementioned games, gives them some spice and better graphics and throws you into a world with new elements (no pun intended) of fun.
I had previously sworn off pre-ordering this game and such, but after seeing more videos of game-play, reading the Rift forums about how responsive and stable the game staff is and finally after my better-half got a beta invite, I pre-ordered the game. I'm VERY glad I swallowed my pride and got onboard. I will be 6-month sub'ing and I will be having a great time! See you in Telara!
I only heard about Rift after beta 3 was over but I was lucky enough to get into beta 4 so I can't comment on any of the previous 3 beta events.
I've been playing MMORPG's and MUD's before them since the mid 90's so I feel I'm qualified to comment on these types of game and I have to say that Rift was a very welcome change from so many other betas. The game was stable on the whole and the devs seem to have dev'd a system that can deal with massive lag/disconnects without it actually being noticable and in the 20 or more hours I played I was only booted to login once or twice, even then I was back ingame within 20 or 30 seconds which is pretty amazing considering how long I spent relogging during my WoW carreer.
Ok,so Rift doesn't "redefine" the genre but they have pulled things in from other MMORPG's that work well but they seem to have done it well to say the least.
I'd stopped playing MMORPG's for the last 18 months or so partly because of the cookie cutter nature of the games .....squint and any game looks like any other game but I didn't get any of that feeling with this beta test.
Soon as I have cash in the bank I'll be pre-ordering and getting my 6 month sub,it impressed me that much.
Just ordered the CE plus 6 months. Cannot wait, the beta is outstanding and the best beta test I've seen so far. I think this game will be a sleeping giant.
Seems like Euro price for 6 months was reduced to €53.94? It was more right, it isn't just my impression? Thought it was €9.99 per month but now it seems to be €8.99 (with that pay plan).

actually I liked my 3 days of beta, but my worry is about bad lag I got.
if it was just beta issue, all good. only I'm not sure about, so hesitate a lot about pre order.
anyone got like 7 FPS in worse case there too or I need new comp? please advise & thanks in advance.
try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2
Could you elaborate on how it's different from any other MMO offered today? I haven't been given access to the beta yet.

Battlestorm you said it all.
I totally agree with you.
I also was so impressed I will be preordering with a 6 months subscription.
The devs were excellent onthe weekend and kept us informed all the way along. THis is way different to experiences with Aion etc.
Well done Trion, and well done Amary (dev) for keeping us informed on the weekend.
