Alright so it sounds like Trion Worlds is calling Blizzard out !

Its Biggie and Pac all over again ! Its David and Goliath ! Its Tyson vs. That Guy with the bit off ear !

So my question is this? Does TW have the goods to call out the undisputed king?

Or are They in over there heads?

I never played Rift although ,  i have been following it.

So im kinda wanting to read what other people think about this LOUD shout to blizzard

I think it's more like a Satire statement. As lots of people were already bitching about RIFT being a WoW clone, without even having it tried out.  So they just make a Statement about that people who start playing RIFT are not in Azeroth anymore.

Seriously! You guys see way too much into it.

If you want some serious calling out. I guess you have forgotten about Warhammer Online and how EA Mythic was bragging left and right about how they were going to kill WoW.

That was some serious calling out!

    Not this lol.

hopefully they will show them up

Yes, I suppose some people might still have been confused wether they were in Azeroth or in Telara. I think this should clarify a bit.

Blizz can sue, the case would be thrown out and give Trion/Rift more publicity.

They would have to prove that Trion is taking credit or using Azeroth as their own creation.  Otherwise Pepsi and Coke commercials couldn't use or say others products.  Or Car companies show other cars in them to compare etc.  It's about fair competition and WoW is a monster MMO for a reason.  Trion has decided to take an agressive marketing approach with them - airing this commerical on national cable networks (SyFy first confirmed.)  Factually what they said is correct also, so libel doesn't work either.

Trion has thrown down the gauntlet.  Expect Blizz not to respond unless Rift starts to become a contender.  Then expect this competition to get bloody.  Blizz will not go down without a fight and they've got a lot of money behind them.

They dont need this crap honestly... Rift is already much better and interesting than world of warcraft... Own lore and world. Wow was succesfull only because of its francise. Warcraft was the whole reason i played it in the firstplace. Of course nowdays you cant create anything newish... But i dont know...

I will play Rift anyhow... its much more vanguard/warhammer/everquest 2 like than anything else. Not world of warcraft!

well, i am not hoping for a fight......for me wow can do their thing and rift can live peacefully next to it......altough they are simular on some points that dont mean the community will be the same also (atleast thats what i am hoping for).

some mentioned about pre-ordering at Gamestop for Beta invite and then cancelling pre-order and losing 5 bucks if it sucks.  I don't know if that works, but you could look into it.  If you've done research into the game and you think you might like it, you probably will.  If you think you won't like it, the same is probably true.  The game isn't really hiding what it is.

Mark Jacobs called out WoW.  WAR didn't.  They never did an advertising campaign about it.  They wouldn't because they knew their game wasn't ready.  Mark was just delusional and well...crazy.

    Trion is not.

I think this ad solely shows that they are targeting former (and current) WoW players. Refering to another game's game world presupposes that the audience for advertisement knows this particular game world refered to. As such, they are, in a sense, underlining their close affiliation to type of MMO gaming that has been epitomized by WoW. Would they actively seek to stress Rift's particularily distinctive game-play, they wouldn't have chosen this reference to Azeroth as a slogan for their ad campaign.

Personally I find it clever way to allure those millions of players who have tried WoW in the past. It just might be that the timing of the ad campaign is not the best one, as quite a few of those possible players are currently playing WoWs re-newed world with an unprecedented vigour. Had the campaign been shown closer to the release date, it could have been more succesful.

I think their advertising is just getting started.  Actually Scott Hartsman said their ad campaign was just starting.  They know what they're doing.  This is just the first salvo I'm sure.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

As Blizzard 'borrowed' the name from a 1970's book called Fires of Azeroth, I doubt they could sue.

Then again, unlike the average MMO gamer, I freely admit that I'm not an expert on everything ;)

    Ehh

They should have left the WoW factor alone.

Trailer is kind of cheesey to be honest.

i think i would have left out that phrase in that trailer to be honest , clearly a sign that they are trying to beat wow ,something they will not do.

anyway i am so sick of this wow killer bull**** that is going on.
