350k'ish one month after launch and the free month is over. I don't pay much attnetion to sub numbers so that is just a random guess I've pulled from deeeep up in my ... well you get the idea.
I'm going with 800k dropping down to 500k or 450k.
I'm going to go with a similar prediction as well. A couple of weeks ago I wouldn't have placed it quite this high, even though I was enjoying elements of the game. But after seeing the 20+ content this weekend, I think Rift will do pretty well for awhile.
half the trolls in here saying doomsday on rift didnt even get to level 20 im willing to bet. That game has just about everything on the market right now . The warfronts are fun , the rifts are fun and they are changing them around with different objectives now. Plus even the pve is better once you get out of the starting zones. People are sleeping on this game but in the end its going to shock a lot of you here as they devs are about the first to listen to the player base and actually make changes that are needed not like your cheesy wow or warhammer.... This release has more meat on the bones then most of the garbage of 2010 and i bet more then bioware/mythics next feasco of light sabers and the boring repetitive pve of GW 2
I'm gonna go in a different direction on this game, cause its got different things going for it than the ones everyone is quoting here.
My thougth is 300-400k at launch, sustain 250-300k after the free month. Right now most who try like it, no outstanding freakout like the UI in FFXIV that would cause that to change after launch. Sure the 'want everything for nothing' crowd will bail as they always do, mostly because they never intend to pay for anything anyway, this isnt a game design issue at all, its the user issue and the same for every game.
6 months I see it staying 250-350k, small growth as more find it.
1 year I see it growing to 550-750k though. This one is the WoW factor here. Cata just came out and has the masses hooked right now, but that wont last more than 6 months and Blizz appears to have nothing up thier sleeve rigth now to extend the hook. Most are already hitting the boredom on Cata and it isnt' even 6 months into it yet. Once they get bored, those that resubbed for the expansion will be looking again. And since Rift is so easy to roll into coming from WoW (similarity in game play is an easy pickup) I see alot coming over for the 'something new and fresh'. If they stay or not is dependant on if Blizz can hook them to come back on later expansions, or if Rift can hook them to stay. But I do think Rift will pick up more of them as time goes on and as WoW grows older.
Originally posted by Zippy Considering there is not a P2P MMO besides WoW that has more than 200k North American subs, 200-300k sustained subs would be pretty nice if not amazing.
EVE has around 350k and LOTRO for a good long time had 300k. Considering they've tripled their revenue since going F2P who knows what kinda numbers LotRO has now.

I'm betting all they'll report is their boxes shipped, not how many are actually playing.

Not exactly sure. What are the warhammer numbers right now? I would say something like that.
