Simply becasue none of the games you mentioned cater to my needs and what I want. I'll play SWTOR because I believe it will bring about a great RP opportunity and a good story. I do not know if that will be the case but from what i have gathered it's plausible.

The OP suggests a certain amount of frustration towards this game. Perhaps he fears the other games will do poorly compared to SWTOR but I see no reason for this. I believe SWTOR will become quite popular but certainly won't be as we expected. My experience is that no game has ever fully achieved what they set out for or promised, and I think this will be the case with all the new games. SWTOR, Rift, Guild Wars 2 and so on... :)

I have to agree with this post for the most part.  I will add that part of why WoW is so successful now is how big it is.  New MMOs today always seem to start out small and try to build up later, which is frustrating for new players and leads to either mediocre or bad reputations in a lot of cases.  By all accounts from beta testers and game reviewers alike, SWTOR is huge, both in size and content.  IF this is true then they may just play second fiddle to WoW or even pass it after a few years.

    I am bias against gw2 after the first instalment (yes I know this one is supposed to be an mmo but after last time and seeing the gameplay vids I little faith). That out of theway, my reason is simple;

I've watched the actual combat vids  and for me TOR just looks as though the feel is better. we will only know for sure on release but you can only judge on whats supplied at this point. There's also the choices on quests and all that entails to add a bit of individuality.

So you prefer a really shitty childish story where twists goes as far as "Luke I am your father" to quite a nice story that Dragon age introduced? Just because you want Sci-Fi MMO so bad?  Let's not forget one of the biggest selling points of SW:TOR is how story develops. But this is irrelevant since the original story on which this is based on sucks. BIG TIME.

I going to go out on a limb and say there are quite a few people who disagree with you here (I'm not one mind you).

Thank you for sharing your opinion that 'one of the biggest grossing movie franchise in history has a bad story'. /Sarcasm

Isn't this like 4000 years before the Star wars movies anyway? How can this be 'based' on something that happens 4000 years later?

Star Wars ceased to be to my tastes after about age 13, but BioWare has demonstrated that they know how to make me love a Star Wars game in spite of its setting.

You do realize how many people disagree with your assertion that the Star Wars story sucks don't you?  You are entitled to have your opinion regardless of how wrong it is.  Obviously I think I would fall into the group that would disagree with you. You seem to think Star Wars is childish.  Thats fine. I can see how someone feel that way except for the fact that you seem to think a fantasy enviroment is less childish.

Yet you give no explanation why the stroy is bad other than examples from the movies. Have you played KOTOR 1 and 2? The story is much better than the movies simply becasue all those childish aspects George Lucas adores are gone. Mind you, The movies are only used to get the iconic feeling of star wars. The lightsabers, blasters, good and evil. The story is a completely new one and for what I have seen much more mature.

Again I see no reason why you need to label us as fools simply because we want to play a certain game. This could be very interesting thread if only you presented valid points and kept the insults to yourself.

    1. Getting tired of fantasy set MMO's.
    2. Tired of playing games with no story or emersion.
    3. Tired of paying companies who dont generally put out decent games.

    4. Knows that although Bioware has never put out a MMORPG they do know how to make a good engaging game.
    5. Has purchased every game Bioware has put out and has not been sorry once.

    :)

I am willing to bet that anyone who does not enjoy RPG's will not like this game when its released.. However.. the genere started as MMORPG and I for one am eager to have the RPG part back.. *crosses fingers*

Well...I can care less if it's Bioware, but the fact that it's Star Wars is going to make a lot of people (including myself) try it.  I mean...the name Star Wars alone is a big part of the hype.

So that makes it quite easy.

first of all ncsoft doesn't develop guild wars 2, arenanet does. Ncsoft is only the publisher. Gameguard is not required for either gw1 or gw2.

Some people are so dense. Of course its all "opinion", but the OP is asking for YOURS. To answer the OP's question, I actually plan to play both TOR and GW2. I mean, without a monthly sub GW2 is pretty much a given. But I honestly think its going to be one of the best MMOs out there. But as far as TOR goes, I really enjoyed KOTOR; its actually the best SW game I've ever played. I'm also a big SW fan, and like many was burned by SOE. So I'm looking foward to seeing what Bioware does with TOR. I have a feeling its going to be impressive.

Granted GW2 isn't made by NCsoft, it's made by Anet, maybe, and i'm just guessing here, maybe Eric got burned so bad by NCSoft that he/she won't deal with any game that is in any way linked to this, developer or publisher wise.   Some people get like that.  They will boycott a company completely.

Even buying a copy of GW2 would give money to NCSoft and maybe Eric doesn't want that to happen.

    Just a guess of course.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

    For Me -

    Swtor -

    1. Yes because it is Star Wars, which is a valid point for being interested in the game as I am a huge Star Wars fan.

    2. It takes place in a non fantasy world, which I have grown increasingly tired of.

    3. No Elves

    Guild Wars 2 -

    1. I was a huge fan of Guild Wars and I trust ArenaNet to make a solid product once again.

    2. The first one took some interesting spins on the MMO style and I expect Guild Wars 2 to do the same.

    3. ArenaNet knows how to handle PvP in a fantastic way.

(looking for something other than  "Becasue its bioware and start wars")

    Here are my reasons:

1.) TOR is sci-fi, and I generally like Sci-fi over fantasy. It gets a bonus for being based off a franchise I love.

2.) There is literally nothing in Rift that makes me think it's anymore unique or different from the huge amount of fantasy MMOs out there. It's kind of ironic since their whole selling point is "look how different this game looks from other games". Sorry, it looks like a generic Fantasy game.

3.) TERA, like Rift, doesn't look like much different to me. I mean, the combat mechanics look fun, don't get me wrong, but the game its self looks like another Asian fantasy game. I can find about 20 of those online for free. I'll admit that the combat does have me interested, but I don't think that's going to keep me entertained for long if everything else in the game is subpar, and so far, I haven't seen anything on TERA that tells me more than "combat is kind of cool". Plus, I have fears that a combat system such as that is going to make the game instanced  to hell and back, and I don't want that in my MMO experience.

4.) Guild Wars 2...eh... I wasn't a fan of the first. It's not like I didn't give it a shot. I bought the game pack with all of the expansions, and tried getting into it multiple times, but with little success. While GW2 does seem to be doing some interesting things, I probably won't even take a look into it until it has a free trial.

5.) SWTOR main focus is story. Hell, it's probably what Bioware is best at. Telling a good damn story. Playing games like Mass Effect, Baldur's Gate, KOTOR, and Dragon Age show that Bioware makes some of the most emmersive games as far as story goes, and they're going to be putting this into full force into SWTOR. That's one thing I've been wanting to see in MMORPGs for a long time, since MMOs lack a lot in story, and over the years, have become more about skipping through most low level content to do the end game, which leads me into my next point.

6.) The first and last MMORPG I played where trying to get to the level cap wasn't the most important thing in the world was Anarchy Online. The thing I loved about that game (and the community) that I have yet to see or feel in other games is just having fun leveling up, as opposed to "You need to get to the level cap before you can have any real fun" . It's like this whole damn community is programed to think that the only fun part to mmos is when you're lvl 85 in top level raiding gear, and it seems to have rubbed off onto most developers, because a lot of early-mid level content in recent mmorpgs are garbage. SWTOR looks like a game that's fun all the way through. No need to rush to the level cap, no worries about being the highest level, just play and have fun.

That's all I can think of.

EDIT: Also, yes, because it's Bioware, and because it's Star Wars. I think that should go without saying though, as most people who know Bioware know their games.

    Groovy.
