It was mentioned on this thread, but the CIV4 theme is up for a Grammy (a first for a video game music).
Too bad it's the only nice song in the entire soundtrack for the game. The Civ 4 soundtrack actually has a few of the same songs as Europa Universalis II, but EU2 has much better recordings of the songs.
so EU2 has the same song? never tried it though.
No, not the Civ 4 theme song. They both take historical songs and play them during the appropriate time period. A few of Civ 4's Renassiance or Industrial era songs also show up in the EU2 sound track.
Sorry I can't find easy links to EU2 soundtrack songs. The easiest one to find is the notorious "falalalan", which, err, isn't representative.

dont worry about representative, we are talking about music, this thread is allowed to be "non-representative" appreciate the info though
Forsaken World's music is great if you want to go to sleep. The game play is too.

I like all the old school Ultima Online music, every city you go to has their own theme music, It was classic nice melodies. And sometimes while you're venturing out in the wilderness the music just starts playing. Now days you'll barely hear them play in the current state that its in. Oh how I miss those days. They should have kept it the way it was. Being 13 at the time, it made the game very interesting. I used to just sit next to my brother and watch while he was playing, and it made me feel as though I was a part of the game, haha. Britain city music was the best (just because I hang out there a lot) every time I listened to the music, it always brought out the evil side of me, I would usually log in my thief and steal from unsuspecting people. Sometimes I would scope around the many taverns in the area and hide in the rooms, waiting for people to run in and try to do a quick drop/trade off items so they can switch to their toons and pick up their stuff, but little did they realize I was about to rob them of their possessions and go back into hide mode.
This one was very good, I liked it so much better back when the screen was loading up a treasure chest to log in. It made me feel like there's some fun to be had!

i know you cant compare it, but two worlds 2 actually has some very fitting music to where you are
People leave the music on in games? Weird. Ok, I could understand single player games, but who really listens to music in MMOs?
The very first thing I do when I load any game, is look for the music volume or the music mute button.
Well I will have the music on the first few times I play and every new area that I visit. But after a while of playing I'm like you and turn off the music, except for a few rare cases (such as AoC and Guild Wars, never get tired of the music in them).
Vanguard has some nice music. Added some to my playlist, thanks for sharing. Most game music gets better as the song goes. I think many miss out on great songs by passing judgement too soon.
A few more rpg oldies. Much of the immersion in old school games were from the music, it unlocks many memories, enjoy.

He is Danish. He has made a lot of stuff including the soundtracks for the Hitman games and Assassins Creed.

Y's Book 1 & 2 for the old school Turbografx 16 CD-Rom.
(The confrontation with Dark Fact is especially epic.)

If you are into sweeping violins and classics; Dawn of discovery (Anno 1404) OST is some of the best I've heard.
