Expanding music horizons.

Because most of the humans tend to stick with a very limited range of music genre, lets try to share our tastes here at MMORPG.com. and maybe learn something.

How does it works?

-Post 1 music per reply (dont spam 3 or 4 songs, no one will listen to them)

-If you want, you can give some kind of description or something else.

-Allways try to listen to others music. The title is not "Showoff your best musics".

-Try to be open minded when it comes to listen to new genres of music.

-Let me remind you, RAP is not something made in a rush with no heart, METAL isnt for emos, CLASSIC isnt for old people, etc.

Lets expand our horizon mmorpg.com community:

    I'll play along...

    "Bloody Bunnies" by Gram Rabbit

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItG8vsCGeKE&feature=player_detailpage

--trippy alt rock over dance beats with a rather unique female singer

The best part of the video is the bearded guy rocking out on the keyboards... I don't know why but he cracks me up.

Normally I listen to death metal (blast beats and distortion are the best) or old 50's/60's stuff but I have a secret soft spot in my heart for chick singers and dance music.

"New Millenium Cyanide Christ" by Meshuggah

One of my all-time favorite bands.  They are a really, really heavy band that uses wierd time schemes and beats.  People call this math metal, but I like to think of it as heavy as all hell jazz lol, especially their later works.  Think of the band Tool, but waaaay more metal.  This song is from early(ish) in their career, they get more progressive as time goes on, with lots of slower beats, with sudden bursts of insane speed, while maintaining the heaviness throughout.  My only problem is the singer never changes his tone/ style except for a few songs where he talks the lyrics, but most of the time when I listen to them I am so engrossed by the drums and guitars that I don't mind too much.

Also, chances are nobody looks at the stuff in the spam forum, since its just for crap threads and whatnot, might get a better response in another category.

I have to be honest, its not the type of music i usually listen too. I havent been attentif to this music genre. True story, i had that prejudice that only emos listen to this music. Well, with time and experience obviously i lost that prejudice.

Im slowly starting to like this type of music.

About that specific music, i have to agree. I like the music, but as you pointed, if the vocal tones changed over the course of the song it would be more dynamic/better (imho).

Afterall, i was hearing bad music from a good genre(metal?).

Ok, and because metal seed is already growing up on me, after this i did my search and found out a music that i really liked. What you think of it?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-i-LhRudP4 Stratovarius - Stratofortress.

Funny stuff: "I betcha if u say stratovarius' music sucks there gonna play this song while they kill you with there instruments." Kasazme commented on this video.

No, people see this thread, tho i agree that it would fit better on off-topic categorie. My mistake on that. If any dev/forum moderator is seeing this, please move it to off topic.

    Thanks in advantage.

EDIT: when i say the vocal tones could change in order to  improve the music dynamic, it is something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94bGzWyHbu0 Avenged sevenfold - nightmare

  • Pro-PainPro-Pain Member Posts: 141

Personally, I cannot stand Avenged Sevenfold.  With few exceptions, i like my metal without singing.  I am one of those people that mostly dislikes radio type rock/metal.  When I said about Meshuggah that he could change his tone I was thinking more along the lines of

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32hV5MqV4Xc&feature=player_detailpage

"Goddamn Eliectric" by the mighty Pantera.  Phil Anselmo (the vocalist) almost never actually sings but has one of the most dynamic voices in all of metal, the way he can change up his screams.

    or maybe

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=TVWBJHVSrAE

"Runes To My Memory" by Amon Amarth.   Swedish viking metal lol... nice melodic death that is all about norse mythology and vikings.   Ya it's still all screaming/ growling but the pitch changes.  Fun fact, Amon Amarth is sindarin for Mount Doom for all you lord of the rings fans.

Ok, after listening to those two, i see the diference between "nightmare" and those. Nightmare seems more like Glee style, artificial, commercial.

Well, as metal is your everyday music (i assume), you already make this diference unconsciously.

For example, on my neighborhood its rap here, rap there. Its impossible to pass trough this streets without listening to some rap. As i listen to so much rap, as you with metal, i unconsciously distinguish the "good" from the "bad". Well, commercial/artificial from the true one, since good and bad is just a matter of taste?

Almost all the famous rappers, they do not rap. They sing a diary, in wich they include almost only fortune, girls, cars, and killing whoever cross their path. Now, dont get me wrong. Many of them are really catchy to the ear, nice beats and nice vocals (without counting the lyrics). But there is so much better, rappers that really touch you singing.

Giving you a example, and giving you my next music we have B.O.B . I really like his work pre "nothing on you FT Bruno Mars".

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fxqbZ6GOIU B.O.B - Generation lost

Listen to the lyrics. Listen once. Listen twice. Listen untill you really understand it. They are self explanatory.

EDIT: Just listened to roy orbison now. "In dreams". Really nice music. Really nice music..

  • Pro-PainPro-Pain Member Posts: 141

I liked that b.o.b. song, which is funny since if I went by his stuff on the radio I would say he sucks lol.  I think he even sorta says someting like that in the song ( not about himself of course, but that rappers who put out crap on the radio usually have good songs too that don't get selected to be "hits").  I have this theory about radio, that it's all the same.  Radio rock is pop with some distortion, radio country is pop with some twang, radio rap is pop with some deeper bass, radio r&b is pop with auto tuning.  Basically it's all the same, mass produced to make money by interchangable artists.  I have another theory: that it's possible for me to like all music, as long as it fits my mood at the moment.  Anyways those are tangents, back to some tunes...

"alone & dying" by hank williams III

Spitting image of his grandpa, how country is supposed to be lol.  This song is pretty mellow, but he has lots of faster oldschool songs.  Mostly about drugs, boozing, and women.

okay, hm "paper bag".. well, its strange at least. Never head something like that(the type of the music). At the first time i tought what the?... but strangely everytime i listen to it, it seems more like a classy and glamorous(?) song. Her voice is pretty nice, but the instrumentals are really well done. Do you know what genre of music is this?

ah, sweet country. Love it. Well, anyone that played GTA should at least know what is country music. And i must say, K-Rose has really nice country music. I dont have must knowledge on country, but i really like it. Funny wilderness, is what i feel when i listen to it. Am i making any sense here?  I like that country music, but again, i havent listen to a country song wich i didnt like (lucky?).

ah, nirvana. I dont listen to it 24/7 but i have some on my ipod to listen once and a while. I´m a casual nirvana listener (??).

to flobots, i didnt had knowledge of their existance. Are they a garage band? Do they still exist?

I swear, before the guy started singing (till 20 seconds, and the parts where there are instruments without vocals) my first tought was, am i listen to red hot chilli peppers?  Even that the chorus is "together we rise" ,repeat x times (i think its the chorus?) it does not ruin the song at all, it actually gives it some force, am i right or not?

Thanks for introducing me to this band pal :D

OK, now with "christian rap" genre (oh you didnt know rappers could sing for true things? glad i did this thread):

LeCrae - Dont waste your life , his most commercial song, wich is not by any means commercial. You get it?

    Lecrae - Praying for You

Just two of his nice works, but believe me he was way way more.  If you like the genre i introduce you to more authors like him. Also this guys to alot of concerts to help poor people (wealthy talking, of course.). Be sure to check "http://www.lecrae.net/events"; , maybe they go to your home town and you didnt even know.

I worked on the west side of michigan for 2 years and the npr station out of kalamazoo played this stuff on my way home every night.  I listened to it till i got out of range of the station then switched to death metal lol.  Suprisingly lots of good metal music is written like classical music, just with different instruments.

Nostalgy coming back. Im so happy to remember how i woke up every morning at 8:00 o clock to watch (so many!) cartoons trough all the morning, then to play football at the street with my best friends! This musics, they tell me that my childhood was pure gold. Yep, kids should defiantly listen more to this. Such a innocent music, entering our hears and giving massages to our (little?) brains.

All I ask for this one is that you actually listen to the lyrics.  I know a lot of people say that about various songs, but when it comes to Rush, you really need to.

    Before all welcome :)

you meditate m? i surely need some meditation too. This city stress kills me.  Moving on

So, i turned the music on. Eh, its ok. (as i am not a native english speaker, and because i couldnt hear clearly what the music was about) Opened the Lyrics page. Opened the music again. Dawm, wait, is this the music i listened 10 minutes ago? because this seems way better. Got addicted.  The lyrics, almost poetry.

"All of us get lost in the darkness, Dreamers learn to steer by the stars". Awesome.

TO "Sid_Vicious" (sorry i dont know to multi quote, wait, can we even multi quote here?)

I like the music, and it seems to be more Alternative than Calm/Relaxing. Am i making any sense to you?

So, by what i understood, this kind of music is used (alot) on animes?

Bach, eh?  Not my cup of tea.  I prefer the faster paced classicals like Mozart or Paganini.  I was going ot post one for them but then I came across this old bookmark.  This video seems to get deleted every 6 months so enjoy it while it lasts!

Michael Romeo - Star Wars Suite.  This guys as talented at composition as he is at guitar playing.  The guitar playing is his, the faint background instruments are electronics he added.  Lookup Symphony X if you want to hear him in a band.

Oh and yes, Rush's lyrics have always been top-notch since the 70's.  Glad you enjoyed!
