Please tell me this was a beta thing? I thought the game was a decent EQ/WOW/WAR/insert themepark mmo made affter 1999 but, everything i did in this game i was handed stuff.  I really hate this mentality i feel like iam nothing in the world....this is just my opinion but i like games where RARE items are actually RARE! this game seems to throw as much stuff at you as they can...its like please keep playing are game here is new shoes...then 2mins later, here is some shoes.  The graphics are ok...slightly better than WAR...character models are dismal...i just dont see this hype, but i can say the same about WoW and it has 12mil subs.

I AM SO FAR AWAY FROM MAINSTREAM.

So far another mmo lowering the standards with 0 innovation and free epix lootz... I want to love this game, but make me feel apart of the world...make me feel that feeling of achievement.

I know your saying its only beta, its only lvl 1-25....i call BS, play anygame that makes you feel apart of the world and doesnt give your free epics you know right away which kind of game it is.

Please dont take me for a troll...i wish the game the best of luck and its a great mmo for people that want stuff now and want it fast.  For me , i want an mmo where i will be trying to get stuff 6months into the game....this doesnt seem to be that mmo.

It's just not the game for you. It's not there intention to have you farming for that epic gear 6 months later. The game hands you alot of stuff early on and continues to give you new gear as you level up. This isnt just because its beta, its because thats how the game is designed and intented to be.  if your looking for a hardcore game where you and only 10 other people have this amazing epic gear, then you have come to the wrong game. Actually your in the wrong genre now. MMO's have been casualized over the last 5-8 years and the grind (for the most part) has all but been removed. Gone are the days of you having a truely rare shoulder armour or chest armour.

Souls are not exactly hard to get. There are different types of souls you can pickup and different ways of getting them. For the pvp souls your going to have to pvp to gain pvp points that you can spend on both pvp gear and the pvp soul for your setup.  The same goes for other areas of the game.

    ^^ WHAT HE SAID.

your sig says youre waiting onf FFXIV well its here and it doesnt hand you anything.. maybe you should try that.

i only played in one event but I read that in previous betas the level to get all 3 souls was higher - obviously it would be unreasonable to get into a hissy fit over details of a beta - but you knew that already.

So if getting epic gear is not a end game activity then what IS the end game for this game or does it simply end when you reach max level?

I havent update my sig in awhile.....

But anyways  14 was awful...just because it doesnt hand you stuff , doesnt make it a good game

But , does it not seem logical to start you off with 1 soul then every 10 lvls gets another soul....why not make you earn your soul a little bit...just clicking buttons and becoming a bladedancer ruins it for me.

Could you please provide an official statement regarding the acquiring of pie when reaching max level? And is there anything known yet about the qualities and flavours of said pie(s)?

I'm not saying that you are lying but there's a lot of speculation and biased opinion spun around this game at the moment. I'd appreciate to be able to distinguish fact from fiction. Especially when it concerns something important like endgame-pie. Thanks.

To answer the question, no you cant get 3 souls by lvl 5

  • Rockgod99Rockgod99 Member Posts: 4,640
That was just for beta. According to the FAQ we get all three souls by level 30 and then we complete quests / objectives for the rest.

Let me tell you why handing you three souls (or perhaps two souls) is a good thing, in my opinion.

I played a cleric so it'll come from that perspective.

Generally speaking, if you want to solo as a cleric, you'll need an offensive soul. Whether that soul is caster or melee is irrelevant. The offensive souls have very limited (and sometimes situational) healing capabilities, usually only reserved for the cleric.

If you do pick a healing soul as your first soul, you severely gimp yourself in terms of damage and therefore progression. The way the game plays, I would assume that noone would pick a healing soul as a first one, unless they could reliably team all the time.

Bottom line, the majority of clerics would pick an offensive soul, because it would lead them faster to progression and more souls eventually. The downside is that you would have little to no healing at the first 10-20 levels. Rifting vs elites with little to no healing is not as fun as it sounds.

Rift is a solid and a fun game.

The Souls give real meat to the game - you really have to think about how you are going to build your skills and play your character.

Rifts are a blast and add a real sense of community to the game.

You can rip the game if you want - your loss - it's a solid title with a lot of good elements to it.

Well, I actually hope it was just a beta thing, too. Seriously, they should grant you every 10 levels a new soul. Additionaly they should limit the possebility to change your role. For main PvE players the current role system is great, but for PvP it is really bad. People will change to FOTM all the time and you will see the same setups over and over.

  • hardiconhardicon Member UncommonPosts: 335

at first i think they had the souls more spaced out than they do now but from beta feedback they found a overwhelming majority of the people wanted the souls earlier and to have more points to spend so they increased the points and gave you the souls earlier.  it isnt that big of a deal, at low levels you still dont have enough points to utilize all of the souls but it mainly gives you an option to respec to do different things, i tried to split my points between marksman and ranger and found i wasnt very good at either but when i respeced into just marksman i was much more effective.  at high levels you will be able to do more with the soul system when you get more points but at low levels it is just about being flexible to change your spec to something more appropriate.  imagine a game with no healers till level 20 or 30 cause nobody would take a healing soul at first because they are not good soloers.  in this game you dont get healing skills just for being a cleric, you have to devote points into a healing tree to get the skills.

That's hopefully the opposite of what they should be doing. You can't avoid FOTM, it's in human nature. Why artificially limit the player's experience? Why gimping PvE in favour of PvP?

It doesn't hand you gameplay either. But boy it has beautiful graphics. It's the shiniest turd I have ever seen. Played my friend's account for 2 weeks because he canceled and refused to play. I didn't make it past three days. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Indeed. Also three souls is limited. You get access to more souls and special souls as you participate in events and PvP as well as PvE. You can use every discipline available to your class at that point and ones you can't start with from what I understand.

So three is actually a small number and they are i no way handing you all the power you can have out of the gate.

Well about starting off with the three souls before level 10: I would like this to stay as is. Why? because it helps leveling - and does not present you with an overwhelming ability to slaughter things. You also will notice that you only get so many points so unless you're talking about what are referred to as 0pt. abilities being ridiculously powerful their usefulness goes away in time. It doesn't mean by a long shot that your character is done, completed, or what have you either. You can have 4 load-outs or different specs, each spec having 3 souls.  To get this you will have to spend money - money you will not have until past level 10 maybe even 20 if you want your mount right away. To get the souls  for the different specs you must complete quests to obtain them. These quests require you to do the rifts. So in my point of view it really isn't easy mode to be all you can be; however you are able to be just a normal character with three different souls before 10 and to me this is hardly any different albeit a little sooner than WoW's talent trees.

May I suggest AOC's RotGS allow you to 'shine' or 'feel special' because some of its epic sets are only accessible through months of grinding?

  • Slashed316Slashed316 Member UncommonPosts: 151

Gear wasnt hard to grind but you did have to earn it by Rifting or doing the zone quests thats not really handing it out. I think they should increase the mote cost on the items tho that its a little harder to earn. As for souls yea they are easy to get but i dont see how thats a bad thing because it allows you to make your character feel like yours from the start. I think in betas 1-2 it was lv 7 for the second soul and lv 15 for the 3rd, depending on how you leveled. Im ok with them going back to that if its what they wish but the current system is working just fine.

    100% agree!

Shaman/Justicar/still debating my 3rd soul here and I have to say at lvl 18, the Shaman is NOT a healer so groups wouidn't have use for one as I'm sure the warrior classes are just as effective if not better at dps. The Justicar is a potent aoe healer but only has half the damage output as the Shaman. That makes me really worry about the damage of the pure healers like the Warden and Purifier. A lot of quests send you into enemy strongholds and I don't know how a Warden/Purifier could get in and out without a group if they only had that one soul.

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

The Justicar is the cleric tank soul actually. You'd be better off with a shaman/druid combo perhaps.

The damage of the pure healers is non existent.

You can make another role and do a Purifier/Just/Whatever if you want. that way if a group needs a healer you have a heal set and a spank set.

Since you can basically change roles on the fly, it makes more sense to have the souls of each role synergise instead of trying to match healing with damage roles. For example, it works best if:

Role 1 = 2 x damage souls (yes, you can put three, but you only have points for two at the beginning)

    Role 2 = 2 x healing souls

Then, depending on the situation, you can swap between those two and be as effective as possible.
