Ok guys, I know the game just came out today, I understand that, but I have been in the PC and PS3 beta for 4-5 months now so I know this game pretty well. I am a comic book nerd, I love DC Comics and wanted this game to be the greatest MMO in the world....but its not. DC Universe does not revolutionize the MMO genre in any way shape or form, though the action gameplay is cool it is more like MMO gameplay with an action disguise. Heres the bullet points:
Gameplay: The gameplay is very fun, at first anyways, and it does add a new twist to MMOs, the action gameplay isnt quite as action oriented as I would have liked, its actually more like 2 buttons are action oriented and the rest are traditional MMO. The combo's are waaay to easy to pull off and if they had took the time to add some complicated ones in there it would have given more action players something to look foward to. Plus the game plays awkward with the keyboard and mouse, much better and more natural with a controller. 5/10
Graphics: I never saw a problem with the graphics, if you dont have a great computer you might have to run it pretty low but the graphics are very good for any computer game. 9/10
Story: The story is a DC Universe comic story, it has many alternative story lines but basically you were given powers and now have to try and save the world from a super computer named Brainiac. 7/10
Tutorial: The tutorial is exciting to play through the first time because it really explains the story well, the problem is the tutorial takes about half an hour no matter how good of a player you are (because of cutscenes) and for every character you make you have to hear the same lines over and over again. The tutorial starts off promising but if they had taken the time to add in a skip option it would make this game alot better, by my second character I just didnt want to make anymore because of the tutorial. 2/10
Quests: The quests are called "episodes" in this game, and at first they are very exciting to do, but than I realized they are all the same. You will have to kill 15 of an enemy, than get 10 of an item and 5 of another item (so kill 15 more of a different enemy) than go to an inside mission and defeat a boss. EVERY SINGLE episode follows this formula, while its a good thing that you probably wont run out of episodes but once or twice the episodes are to much alike to be interesting. If they would have thrown in some get accross the city and disarm the bomb with a time limit or something like that it would have added variety, but its like they didnt even try when designing the episodes, the stories can be interesting but its the same objective on every single one. 2/10
Character Customization: This one is hard to write about....the initial character creation is not bad...but it isnt near what we have seen from City of Heroes, Champions Online, Aion and such. You cant customize height and there are only 6 powers to choose from! There are 10 weapons, but 4 of them are useless and most of them are ones you want on 1 character but wont want to try again. Any costume piece you pick up gets added to looks you can go back to again which is cool (i believe we saw a similar system in Everquest?) but from the beginning you cant get your character looking how you want most of the time. The lack of options initially and throughout the game make customization mediocre compared to other games. 4/10
Replay Value: Ok guys, let me warn anyone who has not played this game that even for casual players getting to lvl 30 (max level) takes only about a week or so, I have seen hardcore players get it in a day. 1/10
Verdict: Well guys, this game has many flaws and is not what I, or alot of people thought it would be. The tutorial is a pain to do after the first or second time and when you get to max level there is NOTHING to do. There are like 3 raids you can do, but you do the raids for armor so you can raid. And you PvP....for armor....so you can raid. But they dont give you hardly any raids to do...see the issue? This game will last probably anyone the free month, some people claim its the best game ever and they will play it forever, but in the MMO world if it takes a hardcore player a week to get to max level the game is considered easy, if it takes them a day it is considered laughable. I think the developers worked very hard on the city and getting the voice actors to do the voice's, but not on what players want. The gameplay is a little action, alot of what we have seen over and over again. If your looking for a new MMO home, you wont find it here, in fact after playing for a couple of months I am not getting it, and I could have concluded that after the first month. The developers when they do play the game leave as soon as you find out who they are, the gameplay is mediocre along with the character creation, episodes are repetative and there is a lack of any appeal unless you are a hardcore DC Comics fan (which I am a huuge fan of) but even than its hard to stay with this game. The first month people will probably give it 10/10, but in truth is more like a 4/10

Ok how can someone who hasn't played the live version of a game give an honest review of a game that is only what 3 hours old? I understand everyone is entitled to their opinion but come on man really? So how much of the 20-30 content did you play? How were those raids and missions? How cool is the Iconic armor? Did it take you a while to get it? What are all the feats ou were able to unlock in the game past level 20? What are the Raids and Duos like 20-30?

I think it's a phsycological thing. Like somehow writing a review of a game that's only been out a few hours means that his opinion is somehow going to affect peoples opinions. I've never taken a player review seriously and only read them for a good laugh at the usually poorly written ramblings of either a fanboy or something that has a chip against the game. Wish players could just decide they didn't like the game and move on.
I have to agree.. Not saying that you (the OP) is wrong but i know a few good games that have focused on the release levels at first and then affrf on a good amount of content upon that.
And to be honest apart from the Core Mechanics we have no real clue how this game will be.
But i guess you can always come back and brag about this if it comes true.
This have been a good conversation
If you read any of what I said you would see the FIRST sentance I wrote was "know the game just came out today, I understand that, but I have been in the PC and PS3 beta for 4-5 months now so I know this game pretty well." So thanks for pointing out what I already wrote. I answered everything you asked, but ill go more in detail I guess
I have 2 30s on PC and 4 on PS3, so 6 in all
I have done the 3 raids available and they were just a collaberation of the missions, like in 1 raid Gorilla Grodd, The Joker and someone else (Riddler?) all teamed up so you had to stop them together instead of seperate. The raids werent bad, they just werent really good. They didnt take much time, and hour or 2 is all. You do the raids for armor, like on most MMOs, but unlike most MMO's there is nothing to do but raid more and PvP with your armor. The missions are the episodes that I went in detail saying "Quests: The quests are called "episodes" in this game, and at first they are very exciting to do, but than I realized they are all the same. 2/10"
The iconic armor looks very cool (most of them) but during most of the beta it wasnt available, you just do a set of missions for that contact to gain their reputation to get the armor. Though it does look cool it is only PvP/raid armor but you cant use it much. Just in certain areas.
The 20-30 content was the same as the 5-10 content, you fight a number of enemies, you get a number of items, you beat a boss on an inside mission. They do not change, EVER. First mission, Stop Gorilla Grodd, kill 10 of Gorilla Soldier, 5 Lieutenants, than deactivate some devices, de-evolve humans, team up with Flash, defeat Gorilla Grodd. Last mission I did to turn 30 on main Stop Aquaman: Kill 15 of 1 Sea Monster, 10 of another, get items from sea creature's, kill more sea creatures, Team up with Matian Manhunter to stop Aquaman.
Any more questions?

The only thing worrying me is the comments on the quests........ But then on a PvP server these quests while you may be ganked any minute will become much more fun...

First off you spelled Psychological wrong, secondly this is an opinion formed after months of playing the games beta, from the last day of beta 4-5 days ago until release today I dont thing they changed everything about the game, anyone saying "Well that was beta" I played until the last day a few days ago, NOTHING has changed.
Secondly anyone who hasnt played the game just wait til other reviews come in, or play it for a month.
Guys I played the beta for months now, I didnt just randomely guess at the game and I didnt just play it once, I have 6 lvl 30s, they announced a long time ago at launch 30 would be level cap at launch. I can honestly say anyone who plays other MMO's, especially fans of Everquest, if you enjoyed how it meant something to get to max level and how it was a challenge you will not like this game because there will be people at level 30 by tomorrow morning.

Actually there is a set of armor for just PVP and the Iconic Armor is for PVE. What you describe as far as quests and missions is no different than any other game. Everything gets repetetive once you go through it once it is about what you want to put up with. You have to agree that it is hard to make a review on a game you have yet to play those last 10 levels and just want to state it as the same as levels 5-10.
"You think this "A" stands for France?" Captain America
It does but most of the time its groups of high level players that will stay around your quest area for quite awhile just to annoy you. Than some camp the spawn points so you have to go to the other city (Gotham/Metropolis) to escape them.
Mystery Bounty
Hmmmm i don't get what's this all about, you have been playing for 4 month with breaks of course but still if it was complete shit you would have stop. now correct me if i am wrong but every single MMO out there as the same quests killing X number of this and Y number of that, so thats no news isn't it?! and raids well i don't care since they said they will add new content every month and even if they wont you still have pvp and in MY OPINION thats the only thing thats important and yeah you say its not that good but its wayyyyyyy better then wow/aion/lotoro/(aoc got good pvp but still...) or any other game where u run stop press a button and boom you hit. here you can actually dodge run jump while attacking even if its not FREAKING amazing to the point you get a heart attack its better then that mindless pvp you have on other games...
No game is perfect and yeah i agree with others giving a review after bate isn't a great idea, since the game will probably change and alot in the next month or so, I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm attacking you its just i don't get what's the big deal and i have some free time lol
any way does any one know if the Eu servers are open?! just wondering
I agree with all that is said. I have been in the beta the same amount of time, but mostly for the PC version because I thought the PS3 controlls sucked. But what I wanted to point out, even though you cant skip the tutorial you can skip the cut scenes on the PC. Just hold down the ESC button and it will skip the scene. Not sure what button it is on the PS3 or if the PS3 even gives the option.
The start button skips them on the PS3 version. I am interested to know when did you get to level 30 on the PS3 version of the game?
"You think this "A" stands for France?" Captain America
Haha, if you say so, I told you how many 30s I had, I dont think I need to prove myself to someone who cant accept the truth that is this game isnt near what we were promised. Alot of these guys worked on Everquest, they should know people dont want to level up super fast. I would be ashamed if I couldnt get past 15 like you stated when it only takes 3 episodes or so after the tutorial to get there. The game was due to release 3 months ago, and how they ever got that release I'll never know. Even Kevin Conroy wasnt done with his voice-overs, the last 3-5 episodes were generic voices. The game will last hardcore MMOers 1 month, DC fans maybe 2, and casual players maybe 2. MMOs are supposed to last for awhile, but why would anyone pay $160 a year when you can get max level in a few days.
Mystery Bounty
Wow a honest review with fail in the same line. "the game that might have been" lol
Played the launched version did you? Get past level 10 did you.
I got in like the beginning of December, took me about a week and a half to get 30 on the PvP server.
Mystery Bounty
IF you can point out any differences between today and 5 days ago I will gladly delete the review. There are no differences in what the game was a week ago, the only difference is now you get to pay for it

If you're going to bash on spelling at least perform a spell check on your own posts.
At east 4 spelling errors in your previous post, some don't even look like English words.
GG
I know now why you are a mystery, you did not reach level 30 did you? I mean you only got to level 20 on 6 characters and gave up didn't you?
"You think this "A" stands for France?" Captain America
Man this gets old. Has ANYONE here played in any other MMO beta? Well if you did was it EASY to level? Ok lets take the MMO RIFT. Did you know you can get to level 20 in a few hours. OMG the game now sucks. LOL THEY ALL DO THIS!. Did you know you kill this kill that.. pick up this pick up that. OMG you do the same thing at LEVEL 20. And HAHA in WORLD OF WARCRAFT your not doing this at 10-20-40-80? What mmo you dont do this?
Dude PLAY the LIVE version then come back and cry how you dont like it. Dont use the word HONEST when you say in the same line "game that might have been" .. wow
People try the game.. 30 days free. If you dont like it dont play anymore. But to not play ANY mmo because someone crys how they didnt like it IN BETA.. BETA should say it all. Wait about 3-6 months then look at the game.. lol
The problem is he based everything off his supposed "4-5" months in beta. Last I checked beta hadn't been going on for 4-5 months not even early beta maybe 3months is more of what you are looking for referring to the OP. He already played the live version didn't you read his post? I mean it is obvious he has thuroughly played ever aspect of the game and then formulated his extensive review based on the research he has done.
"You think this "A" stands for France?" Captain America
DCUO will be F2P within the year.
Ok maybe not. They (SOE) are still milking SWG for all it's worth.
Really? You're going to call out his spelling when you can't spell "that" (see title).
It is so funny seeing so many fanbois bashing the OP about how there is a huge difference between Beta version and live version of the game.
Funny. As I have been in many many MMO beta's and I never saw that difference. What you see in Beta is what you see in live.
The point of Beta is to test the live version! Period! So what you see is what you get!
So far I have not seen any indications whatsoever that SOE has locked out or hold back any secret content during beta. It would even be foolish and stupid. As you want that content to be tested! That's the whole point of a beta!
The OP took the time to write a constructive honest post. Easily telling the difference between someone who is just trolling (like what is happening now on the Rift forums for example) or someone who has actually been in Beta for quite a long while (like the OP).
Cant believe some of the childish fanboy responses here.
I have no reason not to bellieve the OP. There is no major difference between the BETA and the launched game
in the issues the OP describes.
Thanks OP for giving an honest review of the game. I will for certain carefully consider buying this game.
The review IS accurate for the level 1-20. Anyone who is not blinded by fanboyism can tell that. The game IS NOT significantly different than it was from end of beta.
The only thing that could possibly be disputed the end game content and from what people say his account is accurate.
If it is not please explain why the description of the raids are inaccurate.
The guy did not even get into the issues of the serious balance problems and stability/crashing issues there were introduced at end of beta. He could have easily trashed it more.
The trashing of this review is pathetic. Fanboyism and an apologeia for non-critical thinking at its worst. Try it out because its 30 days free? Are you serious? You gotta spend $50-60. You have to base it on release when you have a recent open Beta? Gimme a break.
The quests are extremely formulaic anyone saying otherwise is simply lying. Yet people want to bash him for saying the truth? Get a grip.
The proper response is to mention that the boss fight at the end of each "episode" tends to be rather intersting and that for comic the boss fight is where its at anyway.
Ridicule and ad hominen over substance that is all you got. The review is neagative but even handed and fairly accurate. Stop being little bitches about it.
Game was pushed back in November they were in Closed Beta by then. There were multiple rounds of beta. Some guy doesn't remember exactly how long or when he got in, who frigging cares?
Well obviously he must be lying even though absolutely any one who played beta knows that his account is 80% accurate even if biased in a way they may not agree with.
I personally did the beta and loved the game, it met me expectations, yes I wish they would add weather into the nature power set as they said they were in a video and add electrical/lightning type powers as well, maybe a might/physical set too.. but besides that I love the game. As for the easy level, I love that too because I don't have a lot of time to play but i feel like what little time I do get to play gets me somewhere.
Also at one time the devs said that they want people to level fast for they can be on par with their favorite heroes quicker and be their equals for stuff they have planned later on down the road.
