Umm...where are the rest of the super hero powers? No electric? No pure melee powers? No power suit powers? Why must my ice character use hand blasters!!? That doesn't make any god damn sense. Seriously SoE, WTF!? Did they not played CO and CoH because this game made CO look good, and I didn't think CO would be better than dog poo.

Your Ice Character doesn't have to use Blasters, that's what you chose.
You can also chose to pick up a melee weapon later, if you want. There are pure Melee powers as well.
If you want to look up why certain powers are not in the game, it would help to read the lore behind it. It explains everything pretty well.
Don't worry Kexo there are loads more powers coming soon in the cash shop.
For martial arts, brawling and hand blast. Simply go into your style chooser and select "bare hands".
I personally think the martial arts weapons look rather dumb esp[ecially some of the gigantic blades. And for magic/metahuman based hand blasters I prefer to have bare hands, but the blaster items makes sense for a tech based hand blaster character.
As for other powersets like electric and the much asked for "pure strength" powers. Well they don't exist. The devs claim there are many powersets they would like to add in later content releases.
In the last stage of Beta they also messed withg the tricks tree and pissed people off because they basically made it so no matter what you did you always get Joker themed powers rather have ing one side be joker gift boxes and other stuff be less obviously tied to something.
All in all there system is a bit screwed up in that way and the Iconic vs powerset thing is kind of messed up too. The inability to make tons of powersets and the way they have a non-free form system and wierd restrictions on iconic powers (and that some iconic powers just suck and others are quite nice) makes the whole thing a bit of a cluserfuck that will annoy many purists.
I love DCUO and plan on staying for a good long while, I think it has a bright future head of it and it will only get better in time. However I found myself more frustrated at the Powers/Weapons. One the Powers are very restrictive and in that you can't mix and match other Powers...which I think is a massive mistake on SOE part. Also the fact that I'm stuck with the Powers they offer and I can't make just a straight up Super Strenght Brawler a bit sad. I mean while Superman has some ranged attacks he is mostly a Brawler and use is Super Strenght more then any of his other powers, and he is by far not the only character like this. In fact there many characters that only have Super Strenght as an offensive Power.
According to the game Lore the powers that we have are from heros from the future, thus it stands to reason that there should be many if not a lot of heroes that have just Super Strenght as an offenseive Power. At the end of the day it would have been nice of them to create a few more Powers choices. I can live with the Restrictive nature on Powers, though this just means that every other player out there is likely to have the same power as you.
The other problem was some of the choices in Weapons. I tried to c reate a toon inspired by Nightwing, using Escrima Sticks but found I had to take two swords which in my opinion is really stupid. I mean swords are killing weapons I don't want a weapon designed for killing I want damage dealing weapons that are not design for killing. This is an area I don't think DCUO put any real thought in to.
Now does all this ruin the game no, DCUO is still a frigen awsome game and I realize in time things that I want to see in the game will make there way in. So for now will remain patient.
I'd guess... under development.
And honestly i prefer this approach as to COH were you basically have fire/ice/electric/sound/energy blast just being a reskin and a different damage type.
CO should not even be mentioned... that game is wrong on so many levels.

Game has been fun, but the powers need alot of ironing out, also I'm level 13 and already have more powers than I can assign hotkeys for, very frustrating it makes gaining new powers feel usleless
that is something yopu can thank GW for... you simply take the loadout of powers that best fits the content you are tackeling.

Electricity , Earth, and severa. other power sets were being worked on, but they didn't make the final cut off date to be in at release. They will likely be out in an update in the near future.
If you have hand blasters it's because you chose them. You weren't forced to take them.
Ok, let's stop that nonsense. They will not be puting powers in the cash shop. Only fluff crap. Hopefully not before they add some muich needed fluff crap to the existing game,.
they have stated in cash shops will be items that are simply cosmetic....
Under that claim, weapon types are mostly reskinned version of template skills. Imho opinion, DCUO has many qualities but powers is not one of them. Having more actiony gameplay through weapon combos and awesome environments in the cities, power and character customization is behind CoX and CO, if you don't mind it, more power to you, but I don't see the need to make excuses on it.
Like the lame excuse for not having any kind of crafting. It was pretty obvious that they decided to focus on the other stuff which is fine on my book, but blaming dc lore for that...
In conclusion, DCUO went for a different approach from the other mmos, but by the misery conservation law, you focus on something, you neglect on other stuff. Good game, enjoyable but not awesome.
I am not making excuses.. but neither am i damming this game for the same reasons.
And i rather have to wait/not have say for an example electricity rather than them slapping on a new particle effect on fire and calling it something else.

It wasn't DC lore, it's the whole superhero genre. Crafting doesn't fit. There's no good reason to have it in a superhero game other than other MMORPG's have it. But it ,akes far more sense in a fantasy based game. CoH had the same stance at release, but said they would consider it., and did. You can make the argument that gadget people would craft, but superman sure wouldn't. And most people don't really like crafting. It's not fun. People that like to craft don't do it for the sake of crafting, they want it to mean something and have some impact on the game. Unfortunately, what that means is that crafting gets forced on everyone. You can say that gadget people should craft, but they would be up in arms if they had to craft, but Meta's didn't.
There are a lot of people that are happy to not see crafting in the game, and hope they don't change their minds. I'm glad it means so much to you, but if you really want to craft, there are plenty of other games to do it in.
That's so it's compatible with PS3.
I was very disappointed with the game personally, it may be pretty but it's lacking in almost every other area. Shallow is the word that springs to mind.
Still, there's always the chance that SOE may completely change it at the drop of a hat..
What about combat, how are people finding it? The 1v1 pvp I've done so far was bias in lvl in their favour (4 or 5 lvls only) but the fights were pretty much dependant on who didn't ass it up (apart from 1 where the guy was obviously just having a fit on his mouse, he died much more easily). The group pvp I've been in was much higher lvl difference us around 7-9 them @ lvl17&19 we had about 5 and wiped them out but not sure if they were already injured at the start of fight.
Enjoying it so far, I wasn't in beta but I would be interested in what a balanced person who was (in beats) has to say about the pvp later on down the line.

Seriously dude did you inform your self even a bit before buying this game? Daddy worked hard for that $60 you know...
When I read all the reports, complaints (official forums are now full of them) and issues. It's more than obvious that this game was mainly aimed for the PS3 !
And I don't even think it's mainly SOE's fault even. Probably the higher ups at Sony HQ who demanded SOE to make a good PS3 title, especially after whole Final Fantasy 14 debacle, from wich the PS3 version will probably never come out.
It at least explains the limitations of the action bar. The horrendous and seriously lacking chat system (as console users won't use it and mainly use VoiceChat). The ackward and lacking PC controls.
I think it will end up as a matter of which platform DCUO sales are highest. If PC sales are lacking. Well don't hold your hopes up with SOE doing too many improvements for PC users.
It fits as much as stats changing gear fits on superhero mmos, taking superman as example(since you brought it) with exceptional times of using some outerspace armor, superman tights and cape are mainly decorative or at least its primary purpose is decorative. Some heros use gear and some heros craft gear. My point is that using lore/genre as excuse for clear game design decision based on compromise is not precisely what I would expect from a serious company. If they decided because most players hate crafting I would respect that position.
Can someone please explain the weird hand blaster issue because the incredibly action packed tutorial doesn't explain jack. I want my character to shoot ice bolts from his hands but I keep on picking up these gloves with nice stats. If I use my bare hands won't I be gimping my toon stats wise? I also want my character to be a mostly ranged combatant like Ice Man...Ice Man doesn't go around punching people in the face much, he shoots ice bolts and ice rays. But by picking hand blast (because I want my toon to shoot ice out of his hands) I ended up with a character that melee a lot while exhibit occasional ice powers like Sub Zero. What the hell?
If you think SOE will only stop with fluff items then you are very naive.
Doesnt Batman craft his own stuff? I know nothing about DC so I could be wrong.
This is a user error... Handblast is a powerset that shoots beams from your hands and bunches people with energyfields... Currently there is no handblst/ice option.
But yes you can switch the look of costumebis in your option menu choose the little mask next to your inventory icon and yhen pick the gear slot you like to change the look of. and presto.. all thr stats goodness but non of the looks stuff. This is also good if you realy like a pair of glowes but the stats suck.. eqip them once and you will for ever keep the look in your style tab.
This have been a good conversation
Hand blasters is not a power set, its a power delivery set just like swords, etc. Any power set can be used with any delivery set, so ice/hand blasters is totally feasible.
As for the gear/appearance question. Gear does two things, the first of which is provide the stats. The second is the look. However you have an option to override, and make your own selection.
If you press Esc, the second icon from the left opens the appearance screen. From there you can lock your appearance, so gear doesn't change it. Gear also unlocks the costume piece, which you can select from pull downs.
lmao.. this is the core of it.
Appearance is completely seperate from gear, it is a bit odd. Basically your inventory screen is where you slect your gear for stats etc, the Style screen (mask 2nd from right) is where you select your appearance, here you can choose absolutely any item you previously adourned and effect your appearance only not your actual geared stats.
Also in the style screen you can look different pieces or all so it doesn't change how you look every time you upgrade your gear.

Shallow gameplay is to be expected. Conglomeration of action and mmorpg causing both types of fans frustration is to be expected. Let's see what they do by month 3. Sorry for folks that are testing it out for us - but we thank you.
