Because I like the planeswalker idea, Multiple worlds on different planes, plus all the creatures.
Plus if they could mirror the game mechanics of MTG into a skill based system from the usual class system. Specifically the deck building, deck archetypes( Aggro, Control, Combo + any combination of these), Deck themes(Burn, Mana ramp, Swarm, big creature, discard, Library destruction[ Milling])
where you can mix any of the color to make up your action bar, have artifact skills that can be used to flesh out builds. They obviously couldn't keep creature summoning, but the MTG developers could find a suitable replacement or something similar but could end of feeling like pokemone really quick.
I hold the personal belief that the MTG game mechanics hold the secret to the perfect Skill system that will ever be designed.
I also think a pokemone MMO would suck all the kids souls in the world so I hope that frachise never makes it to MMO, although I am surprised nintendo hasn't done it considering the cash cow it could be.
I'd say it'd be a much better idea to first create the framework of a MMO that's actually fun and engaging to play and then go looking around for an IP that might fit it.
If you pick the IP first then you're just going to rape it anyway as it turns out that in hindsight it wasn't really that well suited to the game you had in mind.
If you create a 2 faction RvR game then don't pick the warhammer lore as there's no 2 factions there. Instead pick another IP that does have 2 factions....

I understand the console game itself has a different system via combat etc for battles that may or may not work for an MMO. But they can totally work around that with a new system they have the story there for the in game world, and the graphics console wise may not be the best, but now days anything close to WoW style anime graphics would be fine, for most. Of course people might not be able to data hack or summon an inner Skeith :P but their so many possiblities to be taken from the in game MMO of the .hack// series. They have a class and race system in place just needs some tweaking for an actual MMO experience, open up some more worlds, and even throw in some free roaming steam bike areas of each world and I think you'd have a very nice and fun MMO, not too mention a Steam punk styled MMO wich sad to say Neo Steam never lived up to.
Just my opinion on a game from an existing IP etc.
Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, Dragonball Z are already MMOs among a few others.
Agreed on Dune, this should be an MMORPG.
I want an MMORPG in the world of Darkstalkers that plays in 2D like Maplestory except not chibi and not fucking retarded. I'd want a T~M rating with NO children as playable characters. Fast combo-based gameplay that can be played with a controller, huge strategy and team-based boss fights, questing & grinding options as well as both instanced and non-instanced dungeons, blood, gore, vampires, werewolves, mummies, mystical beasts, etc. all animated in Capcom's splendid Darkstalker glory. Oh, and thoughtful dialogue and story.
^^^ This. I remember when i first heard of DDO i was hoping it would take place in Forgotten Realms. I was so disappointed when i found out it was only Eberron. Forgotten Realms has a wonderful world with tons of different races and factions and has an extremely large amount of potential. I would love it if a great company could turn it into an MMO.
edit: can you please post a link to that map, i've never been able to find a single on of the whole world.
Only if I can be a dragonkin or Lizardman.

It would be awesome to play as a dragonborn or genasi, but i would rather play as a Rashemi berserker.
the Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, however calling it OZ would be more appropriate.
I would take the game years after Dorthys visit to Oz
I dig the winged monkeys and apple throwing trees, hehe.. Anyways, I think it would make for a interesting mmorpg since you can have many story arcs and factions to choose from.
Dan Simmon's "Hyperion Cantos", the game would be two factions: Ousters versus The Hegemony of Man.
There would have to be space combat, as well as ground combat. And it would be ESSENTIAL for the Shrike to be featured in there somewhere.
You know how in Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2 you have "good guys" and "bad guys", but they ultimately end up working to fight the same enemy (demonic threat blah blah blah). Well the AI's could represent the common enemy, or a third player faction, if you want to go the three faction path.
Magic:the gathering or The Magic of Xanth series from Piers Anthony. It would be cool, everyone would start off with one spell power that was unique to their character.

Shadowrun. Done as per the literature and PnP game. Would take some major developement, but I think it would be worth it.
Ravenloft. An MMO based off of Planescape: Torment, especially the character evolution would be awesome as well.
yes, that wuld be great.
Fading Suns.... hands down.
After that...
Firefly
Babylon 5
Twilight 2000
Traveler
Space 1889
Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, Dragonball Z are already MMOs among a few others.

Dragonlance?
"Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth."
Planescape.
I'd agree with all of these, with the possible exception of Space 1889 (it never really did anything for me).
I'd also add:
In Nomine
Song of Ice and Fire
Aftermath
Elric
Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn Trilogy
The Black Company
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
+1
I would literally cut my foot off for a Shadowrun MMO. I cannot think of a better sci fi/cyberpunk setting that would translate into an MMO.
I have heard a rumor that a few of the guys from the original FASA corp are secretly working on it using the unity engine.
For a new Fantasy Base I would have to choose:
the Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, however calling it OZ would be more appropriate.
I would take the game years after Dorthys visit to Oz

family guy mmo
I would love Dune but a big part of the universe are the politics involved. Could they make an MMO like that?
Also for the topic, Shadowrun.
Another UO would be nice..
An MMO based in TES would be cool.. Being able to travel to all the lands would be sweet.

Silmarillion. The 2nd age.
Hauken Stormchaser
I want pre-CU back
Station.com : We got your game
Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!
Absolutely!
Ing the Conqueror
Dresden Files
Dune 100%!!! - Would be such an amazing game. So much to work with.
Gi Joe - But the old school Gi Joe that most of us in our 30's grew up with. Not that crap they call GI Joe now.
He-man - Might be hard for content, but there would be some very cool effects and mounts.
Colonization - Lots to go with here.
I've posted before but i'd like to add another one.
Rogue Trooper - classic 2000AD comic book story with loads of possible content, lore and background to work with.
