lol i posted about addon on rifts forum and now its gone over110+ pages, overall most players in rift are against it but i hope trion will do something for people wanting addon.
Indeed, I hope Trion suggests they return to Azeroth.
if rift get addon support there will be produced 3 mods..
1. will be called recount
2. will be called gearscore
3. will be called deadly boss mods
and than people start to complain about how easy everything is.. and make everything about results instead of actually accomplish something with there own skill..
and than people like me who hate those kind of mods with bigger passion than religion itself, have to waiste time on making mods like gearscore breaker and anti spam mods... NO THANKS, again!

People have been complaining about how easy it is!
I say NO to add ons. They are not needed and only cause problems whem the code is opended up for them to be used. People whining because they won't put add-ons in the game, go back and play WoW. You CAN play a game without add ons, even those of us with disabilites can play without them.
Some mods help you too much there's no arguing but there are also many mods which end up becoming part of the basic UI in the game because at the time the devs didn't think of it or didn't have time. UI customization has become much like technology. A necessary evil.
IF the devs didnt put it in the game, I don't want it in the game.
Any thing needed in this game the devs should put it in themselves and add it to the in game ui.
As far as mods being necessary. I highly doubt it, most games don't have all these add ons, or not legally, and wow is one of the biggest jokes of a game around, despite you telling me 12 million bla bla disagree...
The only problem with stuff like damage meters and dbm or a threat meter is they go from being optional to being necessary. Then the encounters have to be designed as if they are there.
Just my opinion of course, but that's part of the reason Rift is 'new'. Whatever damage you're doing is fine as long as the mobs die. Once those mods become necessary, once you are playing the meter instead of playing the game, you may as well be playing WoW.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
I was told they are not currently working on support of add-ons at the moment. They are working on the game first and foremost. They haven't counted it out, but as it stands the game at launch will not support any add-ons.

The "what dps is better and your a newb if you use something else" topics are already starting to roll onto the official forums.
The game already has big pve balance issues with callings like Cleric and its Dps souls being half as effective as the other Dps souls.
If they let Dps meters into the game anyone looking to play a caster or melee dps cleric will virtually be forced to either heal or tank.
Shit like Gear score and intrusive features like armories do one thing. Force peer pressure on people to play a certain way.
Since Trion isnt really balancing anything to allow mods and addons like that would all but kill players freedom to explore and fiddle with ones own souls spec because at the end of the day others will know what you are and they will know you are inferior and wont take you along.
Some people (not you) dont realize how harmful addons like that can be.
I'm not a big fan of addons, mainly because I don't like dealing with, let alone paying for, the Box of Chocolates that are 3rd-party developers.
If the measure of player effectiveness stays as just the combat log, it won't take long for the parsers to get popular, and for players to eyeball your performance. It's going to make hanging around with players and a guild that you enjoy that much more important, unless you are Joe Pro and can perform on demand.
If Rift is, and stays popular, it's going to get hacked to the bits and add-ons will happen, shifting the discussion from existence to usefulness and official or unofficial support from Trion.

I agree... I already saw one guy on the forums was talking about his Melee/Ranger Rogue, and then somebody said "What would you want range and melee for ????? That sounds odd" really... Why do you think somebody might want rage and melee.. the answer is obvious, but it is not the norm in games like WoW where you have cookie cutter classes.
People in rift are already trying to badger others into chosing certain classes and not breaking apart from the mold.
There have been a lot of questions about Rift and the use of Add-ons. We'd like to clear up where we stand on this issue.
There is a lot of confusion surrounding our position on Addons and other types of UI modifications, so it is not at all surprising that a reasonable person would think that we are universally against them.
It's true that RIFT at launch does not have any API support for addons. The reason that we have chosen to go this route is the same as we publicly described when we unveiled the game in early 2010.
Whenever we consider adding a new feature to RIFT, we first and foremost want to make sure that we ship and support it at high quality. That's the primary yardstick we use. If we can't, we will tend to hold off until we can.
Supporting Addons, Skinning, and other UI Modifications in a way that is of sufficiently high quality, stability, and in a way that does not allow for the creation of automated play (e.g. bots, which are inherently a negative to the overall experience) was not a task that we could afford to take lightly. Instead, we chose to provide a robust, attractive UI that players could customize in many ways.
As we work toward the future of RIFT, we will be looking to provide new ways for users to customize their experience, through more customizations and possibly all the way through addons and skinning -- To us, the issue is primarily one of providing all features at the proper quality that RIFT players deserve.
I hope that answers the OP's question. I'll let you know more specifics as I find them out.
The game already has big pve balance issues with callings like Cleric and its Dps souls being half as effective as the other Dps souls.
I actually find that kind of amusing. I have seen posts such as that, however I have also seen Cleric DPS builds that can run through Tanks like butter. I have seen a Cleric DPS build with the highest damage and kills in a warfront. I guess that speaks clearly to the relationship between skill and the overall design of Rift. I look foreward to release and future battles. As far as PVE, I'm not so sure but from what I have seen, a halfway decent zerg can down a rift boss, but a small, organized, and highly skilled group can do the same. Praise be to Trion!!!

It will matter as rift transforms into a progressive dungeon crawler.
I agree with what you said; if a company doesn't like addons they will just disable them all. Trion cut out the middleman and doesn't allow any addon cheats in the first place that aid players in beating dungeons in unintentioned fashions and manipulating auction houses/economies that cause inflation.
I think I found you as a bit arrogant for calling addons cheats. With this you imply that people who use addons are cheaters. In fact the key thing is: Addons allow us to fight the mobs and not the UI. And people who oppose this are people probably are people who see "I am comfortable with stock UI, you aren't it gives me an unfair advantage if we race for world first, and I am not interestedin in an even fight".
Encounters in World of Warcraft and in other games are optimized for people fighting the bosses and not the limitations of the UI. Yes they are developed with custom UIs in mind. People who don't progress because they fight with UI because they don't have addons, macroes, etc. often forget this.
Lets move thing one step forward: Developers only add addon support because if everyone has *equal chance* to design an UI comfortable for him, you also make the chances at beating encounters *equal*. If they aren't equal because you "help" certain kinds of people with your UI design, then we speak about unfair advantage in a competive environment. That is cheating. Your favorite approach is a pro cheating approach.
But the key thing is: If you would care to think a bit before using offensive terms, you would understand one more thing: If the game UI is uncomfotrable for me I have 3 options: Play a game where I don't have fun. Leave the game. Or use addons to make it comfortable (inventory sorting addons, price tracking, modified layout for raid frames, info windows, etc). If the 3rd option vanishes I have to choose from the former 2.
A game that isn't fun because of such limitation isn't tempting, and if I leave: it is one less customer. But it doesn't end here. If I don't find the game fun and I move to other game some friends who want to play with me will follow, and maybe some of their friends., etc. a good game tries to be good to as many player as possible and to be attractive to groups of friends.
To another point. It isn't addons that cause AH inflation, only clueless arrogant morons blame addons for this. In an MMO game the only realy valuable thing you have is your playing time. You invest playing time in doing something that isn't interesting to achieve something.
Farming money for a cooper bar, or farming the copper bar yourself (with your main or with an alt) are your options and with intelligent people who know the game we will see a balance between options. On the long run both will be equally reasonable. This drives inflation.
Ability to keep track prices with Addons, web sites, API calls, in game UI elements, etc. can help to protect people from scam attempts in game. As I you are against such protections and you are all in for using unfair advantages that cannot be compensated.
Trade is one thing that is interesting for many players, if trade isn't interesting in a game we lose them. And they will try to take their friends with them, and with this the game will target less communities. It will create less income. The developers will have less money to achieve things that could make the game better even for people who don't use addons, don't trade.
AH addons are one key things where addon use is important if you have the crappy AH design this game has.
But lets move to some other point: If a game is designed with people who struggle to work with your limited UI in mind, the content will be "somewhat challenging" for them, and will be super easy for others. Otherwise you lock out most of the players from content and lose playerbase quickly that way.
Some UI addon functions are a must for a decent game if you want any success. How do you want to implement it, what kind of addons do you want to allow is another question.

First, thanks for taking part of a post and having issue with it by taking it completely out of context.
#1- I didn't say ALL add-ons are cheats, but it appears you selectively left that out to make some point about being faux offended. You want to play the 'implied' game? Ok.. how's this:
By NOT admitting there are specifically add-ons that are made to CHEAT and people who download them specifically to get an advantage on another player, you're 'implying' they don't exist at all. See how easy the "implied game" is?
If you found what I said to be 'arrogant', I found what you did to be dishonest. Don't take one small thing out of a post and parley that into the whole message with some implied insult to people using legitimate/authorized add-ons.
#2- Even if I had said ALL add-ons are cheats, that's my opinion. That doesn't mean all people who are using them are cheaters. Truth be told, that would say more to the people who made certain add-ons than the ones who used them. If the game allows it, they obviously aren't cheating and playing within the rules.
Please take your feined outrage elsewhere. This is just an opinion forum. I didn't imply anything about anyone in that snippet you quoted. I specifically said "add-on CHEATS", because they do exist.
Btw: Why are you doing dumpster diving? This thread was dead and buried for almost three weeks now. Or it was.
You do make some good points. From what I have seen most people opposed to addons are mostly opposed to things on the order of one button auto healing. I would not go so far as to call it cheating but it does change the level of skill requirement to be more successful. This would also turn away the skilled players that will help to drive the game and community.
Regarding your 3 options, with Trion there appears to be a 4th option. You can always suggest new features to the developers. I have seen quite a number of UI options implemented as a result of player feedback. Take a good look at the features of the game. I found that Trion took the best features of other games, improved them, and then added a few new ones. Rifts are essentially public quests similar to Warhammer, but much more robust and without the buggy loot rolling system. The problem with letting outside developers add UI elements is that you will inevitably have those who seek to give themselves an edge over other players. While this is understandable it is also unfair. The speccing system is so robust that you have ton of options. UI customization is very well implemented. New UI elements are constantly being applied. It would be interested to see how many people look for addons before they are even familiar with the game. I would bet that most of the people who complain the loudest about the lack of addons look for them less that 2 days into the game; Nor would most of them take the time to learn to write their own.
I do agree that addons have little effect over the economy, that has more to do with gold sellers, to which I am also strongly opposed. However a developer should exercize extreme caution when implementing an addon system and should assume that it will be abused... Because it will. So far Trion is, in my opinion, doing a great job addressing the features that people want without sacrificing continuity. The people who will not play simply because there are no addons would probably not add very much to the game and would most likely take away from the community, driving many others away.
In Warhammer I maxed out my ignore list less than two weeks into the game mostly because of people constantly rambling on about how it was a WOW clone. Those are the people that take away from the game experience and will scream about the lack of addons. They will not be constructive and try cooperation as a means to an end.
Some people dont like addons becuase they opens a can of worms that can lead to scripts that exploit the game Other feel they make gameplay better and more responsive. If you like add ons thats fine if you dont thats fine too but that last thing anybody really wants to argue about is how they cant play the game due to ui issues especially if the majority of people can play the game with the ingame UI. Now this may date how long its been since WoW for me but the Rift ui to me is perfectly fine. Now granted i came from FFXIV (talk about a bad ui) and Aion (not so bad) which at the time when I was playing did not allow modding. Basically I have come to the understanding that if the developers want mods it fine and if they dont that fine too. People can bot either or way. The only thing i cant stand are the players who say they cant do with out it when the majority can. Sure you may prefer it but the dramatic cries for them ro be allowed probably need to end. Just mho.

We were probably on different servers. Most people I saw against add-ons were worried that it was going to give some PvPers unfair advantages (ones who d/l'ed them) and also segregate parties with things like GearScore where if you don't get 'scanned' for gear, it ends up like dungeon raiding in WoW and the average players don't get groups.
Some also didn't like Auctioneer and things like that as those made cornering items on the brokers extremely easy for goldsellers and higher level guilds alike.
They weren't 'cheating' (the program was authorized) but it helped shoot prices up through the roof quickly and easily when someone doesn't have to spend hours scanning stuff like the old days to get rich by exploitation.
Nowadays just imput "item", "quanity", "price" 1,000 different ways and make a mint; all the while pushing up prices for the server.

Any game is 'easy' with only 20 levels or so opened.
Haven't seen many that are hard this early in a beta, so those people are morons.

Why can't people learn to play without addons?
I knew players that required mods like Healbot to even play their class on a average level...
Mmos aren't hard to play. Just spend a little time with your spec, play solo and with others of a bit and you get better.
Addons have to be the worst handholding ever.
Why bother if they make everything so easy that your basically watching a screen while the game tells you exactly what to press and when.

I ran across this post the other day, and thought it might help clear up any questions about if rift is going to allow add-ons at launch...

Just mho.

"TO MICHAEL!"
