Pretty much. Game looks to be in a horrible, horrible state. I can't believe they actually released that new official trailer video some days ago. Up until now I used to think trailers are supposed to promote a game, not make the audience laugh at how ririculous the rubberbanding is by willingly showing them how people "warp" around instead of smoothly walking. Same goes for the crazy flickering textures.
If you got nothing good to show, don't show anything. Pray some idiots will preorder, then shut down and that's it.

I've never understood why people go to forums of games they don't like just to post how they are praying the game will fail. I can understand people posting complaints/opinions but this is a bit too much. You sir should get a life.
As expected - no mention of an open beta, because their isn't going to be one. Masthead have come to their senses and realised if the public actually experience the game first hand, without paying a dime, they'll do a runner after "testing" it, leaving Masthead potless.
There is an open beta. It starts on 2/4/11... you just have to pay $60 to get into it.
Mirrors my thoughts... let me know when this paid OB end and I may play after they've fixed it.

Lmao. I should get a life? Why?
How am I praying they fail?
All I said is that I believe they will fail, due to how unprofessional they're going at it. Look at the video yourself, if you enjoy seizures from constant flickering and extreme rubberbanding at this stage of Beta then hey, guess they found the first fanboy willing to spend some bucks, good for them.
Amazes me how blind people can be to the obvious.
By the way, a main thing about mmorpg.com is that you get pros and cons of games, so you should be happy that you do get people willing to say other things then "OMG THIS I AWESUM IT WILL KILL WOW!!1" on the specific boards. Free speech bro, try it.

I do apologies I misread your post as you saying "Pray some idiots will preorder, then shut down and that's it." instead of what the intended meaning was.
I still do disagree with you however. And I see nothing unprofessional about the way they're handling things. Would you rather them make some fake trailer making the game awesome looking and fool everyone? IMO they are being very profesional because they are actaully being honest and showing the community what they have.
And I do agree that the trailer had some bad issues. Thier suppose to be handing out beta keys on some sites so hoepfully we'll get to actually test it out or at least see some videos.
I could also read that to mean that distributors (online and/or otherwise) will have beta keys available for those who preorder the game.
However, since there's very little time left before the supposed release date, unless that release date turns into a beta release, I guess I don't have to read it that way.
Im just suprised people think this game will go anywhere, as much as i want the game to be good since other than eve theres not any good sandbox games, you do realise that 3 weeks from launch we have no indepth info about all the different skills, weapons,
vehicles, guild buildings, types of mobs, pvp info, crafting info, info about the ui, newbie areas, travel and so on, only just some basic question and answers and general framework, nothing concrete from the devs, is it only me who thinks no info on these things raises huge huge red flags, man i have more info about firefall thats coming out at the end of the year than a game thats coming out in 3 weeks.

It seems to me like if they still need an NDA two weeks before the game's final release there really are issues with the game that they don't want these players to find.
The issues of the current beta-client are: - excessive rubberbanding - heavy lag - constant freezing All other things like unpolished textures, animations etc are secondary. In an earlier version of the client you could unlock your mouse and play the game like you would do with any other FPS, currently this feature is disabled and it feels real rubbish therefore, as you can't strafe etc. Ai is dumb like rocks and far from what Masthead wanted the Ai to be. Quests are there, but it takes ages to complete them becuase of the rarely seen mobs. Crafting is... well... where is it? That sums it up, for the game-status 3 weeks before launch. a lot of half truths and exaggerations
Says who? Someone who actually got to play the game yet, or just another uninformed fan-boy?
Play the game yourself and tell me again that I'm exaggerating or not telling the full truth.
Funny thing is movement issues, texture issues are all fixable im sure people are willing to wait if the core game is good, problem is they havent released any concrete info, lets say combat animations are messed up and so on, how about they create a small walktrough video of the main areas of the island, obviously not indepth but a light view of them, maybe a flytrough of the island with mobs spawned walking around, or a ui walktrough, there are so many things they can highlight in
the video to gather interest other than combat, unless all these things are still in a unfinished stage, i thinks thats more what im afraid of. They have 16 days before launch, they got 70+ developers, they could spare one or two and do maybe a 1m long video a day until launch highlighting a specific feature or something, or even maybe like a 5m video every week until launch highlighting a bunch of features, hiding and not releasing any info 3 weeks before launch is just not very reassuring.
Sure they released 2 dev diaries about two areas which were pretty good, but again all screenshots why arent they showing us ingame engine video.
They seriously need to fire their marketing dept because they ovbiously got no imagination on what they can do to get a little hype going.
I think the biggest reason they don't just allow more people who signed up for the beta at their site to get in is because they know those people are interested.
The best way to garner more interest is to target people who really have no idea about the game and don't care enough to sign up at that site.

I doubt a company their size even has a marketing department. There is a reason this game has been in development for so long and looks unfinished, and I'm guessing staff size / funding are the issues.

Thing is I think they got about 78 developers, total staff of about 100 i think or close to that what they said in their forums, im sure they got a couple people doing marketing, its not that hard to setup a camera a do a couple of videos with devs talking about some of the features, while their talking show some ingame area footage of the diferent areas or some ui footage, little tidbits of info like that go a long way
towards generating some atention to the game, or even keeping current fans interested, so many examples of dev diaries for them to look at ranging from riot who does league of legends, to ccp who does eve online, even red5 who does firefall, their simple quick and easy to make, the 2 dev blogs they released where great if they combined them as the script with the devs talking about it, combine the game art they showed with some ingame footage of the areas and it whould actually be awsome, stick their company logo animation at the begining and the earthrise logo animation at the end and their good to go.

I'm not breaking any NDA either, but apparently perception is totally different here.
What are you talking about? You just broke the NDA in your previous post.

I've never signed the NDA myself. I'm just lucky to have access otherwise tho.
