the funny thing is that I argued against exactly the same points as I have here, that LotR was perfectly functional but just very boring etc, and I was shouted down by the fanbots, much the same was as I get around here. I was told that lotR was awesome and great, and was gonna be the new big MMO.

LotR is free to play with cash shop these days.

Lotro isn't a bad game. It's gotten some great critic reviews and before the f2p hate it was generally regarded as a good mmo even on these forums. Turbine decided to go f2p for one reason, the success of DDO. So bringing up f2p as some end result of Lotros failure makes no sense. It's one of the best mmorpgs when it comes to it's quest content and game world... Honestly it looks like you may have been wrong about lotro just like you are about rift.

The only reason mmo games go F2P is because they dont have enough subs, therefor the game is a fail and that is why they went F2P nothing else. So I think youre wrong.

I have to admit it took me a bit to warm up to this game. I am very sick of the quest to level mmo's. But right now, any decent game that comes out will get my attention. I am sooo sick of crappy games that get released way before their time. This game will tie me over until GW2 or some sandbox game that will replace pre cu SWG for me (sigh if that will EVER happen).

All I know is, since I started using Rift Beta® my acne has gone away, my chronic pack pain has decreased by 85%. My Grandfather who has struggled with flatulence and irritable bowel syndrome as well as geriatric profanity disorder has grown a full and luxurious head of hair all due to my playing Rift Beta® ! I won't stop singing the praises of Rift®!

My house was up for foreclosure, but Rift Beta® helped save my house from being foreclosed on.  Now, I own 6 banks and have a net worth of 100 billion.  Thanks, Rift Beta®!

Love the "Trion" logo on his shirt too. completes the image. Rift is the new Shaw-wow. It may not suck up all the crap that are mmo's but it will sure clean up the crowd....

Anyway, im gonna go play F2P Lotro while i wait for RIFT Beta 5.

It amuses me to see some people making such elaborate efforts to be ironic in this thread. In my opinion, Rift is the most polished game I've seen in closed beta in a LONG time. I will buy it retail and play for my month, and see where the direction of the game leads. For me to be willing to do that for a game pre-release at this point in my MMO experience is a signifcant testimonial already. The key to success is how quickly they can improve and expand the gameplay experience.

Rift will not bring about world peace. Rift will not cure cancer. But Rift may just kick Chuck Norris's a**.

As soon as Rift stops being so fucking awesome, we'll take it off the pedestal.

Until then, kneel down before it!

Why is it always considered "trolling" if someone doesn't share you views 100 percent?  I see no trolling here.  Just a RIFT fan that has a strong opinion about moderation in hype.  How exactly is that trolling?  You're free to ignore his advice and post as you please anyway, right?  Maybe you were being sarcastic.

Anywhoozle....I hope RIFT more than meets expectations and becomes successful, because we can't have too many options on what to play.  Every successful good game is good for ALL of us whether we choose to play it or not.

Eh I get where Totec is coming from,

As someone (you can see my history) hasn't posted in awhile, but just reading about new stuff coming out. The overhype this game has recieved in the last few months from the prior horrible hype it recieved before makes me wonder about the game but then not buy into any hype.

As a guy with no cause to hate or love it, but an opinion based on what I have seen (vid/screens info) I can't say I find the hype helping at all. The issue rift has is in my eyes is a remake of the same old thing. The only thing "unique" is the rifting of the world and the transformation it causes. Basicly to me it's a random spawn location that graphically make things look different. I am sure it has gone further (as explained by the devs in the past) and now npc's and mobs change with that even more effecting questing etc, but then again I don't really know I am going off what again I did know.

In the end you can rake me over the coals for that statement alone, but as again someone that could care or not care but just seeing what is out there. There is nothing about rift that makes me think it's not a filler till the next big game comes along. For me when I am not browsing the internet or working, I play lotro and now dcuo. I find dcuo very unique in game play (first game where combat isn't just click an icon and watch you swing) , so I enjoy the fact that it has a unique combat system (horrible chat system btw)< but overall a great filler for now.

So eh, the OP is right, after reading so much "how great it is" it has really just made me think "Some of these guys work for that company". The ones I actually believe are the ones giving postitives and negatives thoughts on the game and most of those come to the conclusion that I came to prior to reading them and that is what I stated above.

No doubt rift will have a following, but sadly (nothing against the dev team) I don't know anyone personally out of my 20 or so friends that do mmo's even talking about it. There is just no interest in another wow/eq clone. People are looking for something new, (I hate to say here) stuff like knights of the old republic online (for the story content), guild wars two (for the unique stance on how players interact with the world and combat in general (( still don't care for the graphics thou)) ) and a few others.

But he is right, most overhype threads and comments are worse for this game atm then honest open opinions on the good and bad. Those are more beleivable then the pure fanbot opinions. The honest thoughts will more likly sway people as myself on curiousity or at least "Does it have enough to keep me interested an having fun?". When I read those positive/negatives I get more info from that then anything, at least there I can way the pro's/con's and decide, "yea, might be worth a few months of play" but I can say this much, this is one of those titles that would only be a few months for me, but that might be enough for me to buy it. I know dcuo is only a few months, but most single player games are the same.

To me if I see more open and honest thoughts on the game it might actually sway me to try it out, but as of now, it's mostly blind fanbots and the occasional trolls, nothing here has made me change that thought, well except Totec, he has been pretty open (negative and positives) about the game then pretty much anyone.

I wouldn't say that people are looking for something new. Most attempts at being new, innovative etc, have been met with disaster for one reason or another. On the other hand, attempts that are down the earth, stable and with the ability to grow in the future fared marginally better.

I am all for it too, even thou I prefer something inovative. In the end for me I need to see pro's and con's , there is not one game out there without them. When I see blind following, well that's what I see.

What worries me is that Rift is seeing all the same sort of comments we saw in Aion and FFIV. Which makes me think that the play a month and move on teen brigade are going to be very much with us at launch.

You know there will then be the inevitable fall out as Rift does not turn out to be the best MMO since the dawn of time. And we are going to have to suffer that fall out with their whinning on here.

As much as I would love to sit around here and roast marshmallows with the "Toot it and Boot it" crowd, I will not be around when the QQ threads start popping up at launch.. I have been playing the betas so much that unless they dramaticly change the game (sorta like an NGE or something) I don't see myself screaming foul by the end of the first month..

But yeah, I agree with your post.. It has been a neverending trend on these forums.. But I am looking forward to the fallout from GW2 when its released.. Rift is next on the "flamin release" calendar, but after it has been stabbed into oblivion (kinda like I expect DCUO to be sufferering from pretty soon here), it will be GW2 and SWtOR on the clock...

"Forum doomsday" approaches everything in this place.. Not even "Project Titan" will be immune to it..

I just got done reading the "Rift is the new hotness" article and I really think I need to stress a point to my fellow Rift lovers out there... You're continual boasting of Rift isn't going to help this game succeed. In all actuality it's going to make it harder... The more people boast and say how awesome Rift is the higher and higher the expectations are going to be fore the readers and the critics of the game, and yourself.

No game is perfect. As polished and fluid Rift is it will have problems, every MMO has had problems... And when those problems come up they are going to be magnified, because the players are going to have such high expectations.... and where are they getting those expectations? From the people constantly boasting about the game!

To use an old saying "stop putting the 'cat' on a pedestal" you're making it unreachable for everyone, especially yourselves.

are you jeaous?   I swear you sound like a guy who has been dumped by his girlfriend.  That same way Cleveland go dumped by Lebron.  lol troll more noob!
