but seriously, i dont think party will ever be over in WoW
with roughly 10 Million active players, oh yeah, you will always have a group
More like 4 Million.
Nobody here plays on the Asian Servers.
Yeah, yeah, I know, 4 million is still huge. It's just not 10 million huge. Furthermore, they only sold a little under 3 million Cata copies, I think it's 2.7 Mill, but I'll give you 3 Million.
They sold 4.7 million the first month. 3.3 in the first 24 hours. But yeah it's getting a bit long in the tooth.
I've been playing since Cata and I'm still having a blast. Six year vet here. I started on a new server to level a worgen druid and I'm not bored yet. Just won a VIP beta invite to Rift yesterday and only had time to download and play it today. Played to about level 8 and went back to gearing out in WoW. To each his own I guess.
This is quite accurate I believe, that is how WoW is at the moment, the game is quite good and fun if you level and reroll all the time it honestly is, if you are the kind of guy who levels from 1-85 in 7months the game is a lot of fun, but for most ppl is not about that, its about getting your character and putting an identity to it then doing something meaningful.
And WoW just no longer caters to those people, they realized a bigger chunk of their loss came from before ppl hit lvl 10 so they focused on leveling, the expansion was good dont get me wrong, but once you get to 85 its the same hamster wheel it has been, and for most half-serious mmo gamers its not enough to just sit in town queueing for shit.
I know ppl who have never even hit 80 playing for three years and they are having a blast with the new stuff, it is just the way it is, but leveling has become a nice single player experience which you may or not find ppl on the way.
I have had much fun for 3 expansions raiding and downing encounters but it is only now when I find myself with no time to commit to such schedules that I see that I have nothing else to do other than queue for instances/BGs or reroll. So for that reason I decided it was time to put down WoW for good, its a good game and it wont die, but its not for me anymore.
The party was over a while back. Its just taking people like you and more, quite a bit longer to realise its the same stuff repeated through expansions with different skins to make it look different to fool you;
The party was over when WOW lost its identity with the character classes.
Remember when hunters and warlocks where the only ones with pets?
Or when druids and rogues were the only ones that could turn invisible?
Remember when mages actualy felt like they were wearing cloth armour and did not have the survivability of a warrior?
Wow have now nerfed and redesigned (interfered) the classes so many times that they lack they individual identity that made them unique in the first place.
They didn't release nearly enough content for 85's. The new zones were nice but they were finished in a month. The xpac was mainly for alts and new players. Archeology is ok, pvp is the same old thing, and the new 5 mans (heroics) already face roll for me. Raiding never loses it's luster for me however. That and the friends I have in my guild is what keeps me coming back. Rifts will be a good diversion for me when I just can't bear to log into wow. The real test for me is when SWTOR comes out. I have a feeling I will be flying my spaceship in a new direction, never to look back at WoW.
The tought of having to grind heroics for hours and end with 14 years old (or adults behaving like they were this age for that matter) for the third time and the feeling that cataclysm is completely "on rails" probably makes people wonder.why they are still playing.
Add to that the terrible community of teenagers, the lonely lvling, the mindless raiding, and the now-aging graphics...
This game got old suddenly, people want some frresh meat.
No worry for blizzards tho, many players are either too addicted or blind to see it, and the teenage crowd is an endless supply of new players.
My addiction History: >> EQ1 2000-2004 - Shaman/Bard/Wizard/Monk - nolife raid-whore >> WoW 2004-2009 + Cataclysm for 2 months - hardcore casual >> Current status : done with MMO, too old for that crap.
the party ended a long time ago for me..when i woke up with a hella hangover and didnt remember anything..and laying beside me was some overbloated fat chick that i didnt even remember her name..but i think her name was WoW
I agree, I love WOW, really do, but the endless grinding and less and less fun while im logged in has gotten me to not resub this month. Yeah ill be back again sometime to look, but IMO WOW has run its course.
Coming back to Cata, I actually felt the game was TO polished. If that's even possible. It felt to neat and complete, seeing old azeroth all sealed up and glitch free and re-done. It ruined some of the charm an MMO has, when you can fall through floors and enemies glitch out. It made the game special. The dungeons, they are to refined and set in stone, it leaves no room for players to think of creative ways to maybe avoid waves of enemies or beat bosses.
I really don't know what I'm talking about, but that's the only way I can describe how I feel about WoW.
There's no end to the whining on this forum - now it's Blizzard's fault because the game doesn't glitch and let you fall through a floor or something. Get real....
I stopped about 7-8 months ago and even then I wasent playing to much. I came back doing the 10 day trial.
In the last few pages people have summed up wow pretty good. The whole attraction of kids and non mmo players has taken wow to another level. Im not even going to get into it just cause it bugs me.
As for the new content at 80 (I can only play to 81) I found both the new water world and Mount Hyjal very blah. In Vanilla walking into Silithus found very Epic, in BC just entering from the portal it just felt like there was a war going on and you really felt like it was an epic experience, as much as I hated WOTLK, the zones were large and you were amazed. I found in Cata the new zone were just kinda added in. I know some people like the new water theme, but I cant stand it. I left it to goto mount Hyjal. hyjal was a bit better, but nothing really blew me away. If anything the Jousting quest made me look on wowhead to see if I was the only one to think that it was a horrible quest (I wasent the only one).
All in all, for 60 bucks (game, plus one month) I think its garbage what Blizz did and pretty disappointed. Sure they changed around the original world, call me old fashion, but I loved Vanilla wow and enjoyed leveling. Now things just seem like one big ass solo game while leveling.
So yes the party is over. IMO Cata should have not been released and they should have taken the time and money and used it towards a new "Epic" game.
It just doesn't feel right this time around. I was bored 3 weeks in. Didn't have any desire to start the hamster-wheel grind again. Then on top of that, the community seems worse now than I ever remember it being.
*This is not intended to invoke the same old, same old "Tehy sold 4.7 miloone copees" or "12 miloone ppl cant b rong!" routines.
Just posting my thoughts.
i somewhat feel the pve extremely easy now, but battlegrounds are fun in my opinion. Ive never been a pvp player, but wows pvp is good for me.....
About the community being worse... i dunno how was it before cata cos i jumped to official wow server with cata launch.. but i noticed theres a lot of immature kids (too bad they also get money for sub)... but also a bunch of nice ppl so thats pretty much the same in most mmorpgs......

it really does begger belief sometimes
yea im about as dumbfounded as I think you guys are with that lol
The party did end in early 2007 for me already...I knew from now on they will just release expansion where you have to start the grind again...it was common sense. Good that i did cancel the game when it was the best time for it.

Yea, WoW party over, all 13 million players are walking out now and crying as they go. Long Live WoW and may the swartz be with us always.
I have a bunch of 80's and played the game for years. I decided not to buy the latest expansion because i am quite burned out on WoW. I did the trial and was like, do i want to do this all over again? Logged off after doing some of the underwater quests and just thought, blech this is boring. WoW is a great game and applaud the stamina of those who can stick with it, but for me, i'm done. I'm on MMO hiatus until GW2 comes out.
This is called burnout, it's normal with games you've played for years and years.
Either your break wasn't long enough or it's time to move on.
That's why most core MMORPG gamers don't like WoW, they got burnout within 4 hours because WoW brings nothing new to the table and feels like a bad EQ rip off.
I can't say I'm done with it, but I am taking a break from WoW for now with Rift and then Swtor. Running the lfg heroics the past 2 months pretty much decided it for me...there is no sense of community, unless being mean to others is how we are evolving.
Eh, I played it for 5 years, most certainly had fun. But all my friends have pretty much quit playing...and after raiding in vanilla, BC and Wrath, I have zero motivation to do the same thing in Cata, even if the story intrigues me. Moving on I guess. Kudos to those that are still having fun, thats what its all about really.
I'm only posting this because I just left the game from a trial account. I rolled a troll mage and ran around a bit and headed for Org. I really wasn't trying to do anything but check it out. That said I'm glad I skipped this expansion, it all just looks forced and fake. Maybe it's my impression from a quick glance but, this game used to have attention to detail and a whole lot of care put into all the small things. Dunno why I'm wasting time writing this I'm not trying to sway anyone's opinion with a 20 min review or anything. It's just that this topic stuck out from the front page, having just logged out.

Problem is this game grabbed me right away. I spent so much time in this world from a lowly lvl 1 mage to a 80. I had a blast in the bear runs back in the day all till about a year and a half ago-ish. It just seems so plastic now, oh well.

i never played vanilla, started from TBC and i havent had that feeling, and in my opinion cataclysm content is really good... to be honest i had more fun with cata than wotlk and tbc

13 million yeah right.. if you believe what blizzard says - oh yeah they wont allow that to be ratified by a independent will they?
Realistically you jump into starcraft 2 on bnet you can see during peak theres about a million players online, of which includes d2, sc1 and sc2 players.. odds are with the 45000 games average say 5 players in sc2, be lucky if the subbed and playing population in North America in WoW is over 1 million players.
BTW - I'm calling RIFT to rip the trousers off WoW - RIFT is the WoW killer.
I had not been playing for a while but bought Cata, leveled to 85, farmed a good gear set, got bored and quit.
Except after I got my main to 85, I leveled another toon to 83, but just couldn't keep going. Starting leveling a bunch of alts. Then got three of them to Outland. I just didn't want to do that again. Then Northrend? Nah.
But hey, WoW kept me playing and paying for a long time. I don't regret it. It was fun. Now it's time for something else.
