It just doesn't feel right this time around. I was bored 3 weeks in. Didn't have any desire to start the hamster-wheel grind again. Then on top of that, the community seems worse now than I ever remember it being.
*This is not intended to invoke the same old, same old "Tehy sold 4.7 miloone copees" or "12 miloone ppl cant b rong!" routines.
Just posting my thoughts.
Yea, WoW party over, all 13 million players are walking out now and crying as they go. Long Live WoW and may the swartz be with us always.
13 million yeah right.. if you believe what blizzard says - oh yeah they wont allow that to be ratified by a independent will they?
Realistically you jump into starcraft 2 on bnet you can see during peak theres about a million players online, of which includes d2, sc1 and sc2 players.. odds are with the 45000 games average say 5 players in sc2, be lucky if the subbed and playing population in North America in WoW is over 1 million players.
BTW - I'm calling RIFT to rip the trousers off WoW - RIFT is the WoW killer.
Rift will end up just like Warhammer in 5 or 6 months.

Heh statics can really rip you a new one on every level. I like rift and i see it getting big but it won't be a wow killer. And wow only has around 12 million active subs world wide. No they aren't all playing at once.
I'm only posting this because I just left the game from a trial account. I rolled a troll mage and ran around a bit and headed for Org. I really wasn't trying to do anything but check it out. That said I'm glad I skipped this expansion, it all just looks forced and fake. Maybe it's my impression from a quick glance but, this game used to have attention to detail and a whole lot of care put into all the small things. Dunno why I'm wasting time writing this I'm not trying to sway anyone's opinion with a 20 min review or anything. It's just that this topic stuck out from the front page, having just logged out.
I also get the feeling the party is over.
indeed its just your impression from a quick glance
Problem is this game grabbed me right away. I spent so much time in this world from a lowly lvl 1 mage to a 80. I had a blast in the bear runs back in the day all till about a year and a half ago-ish. It just seems so plastic now, oh well.
i never played vanilla, started from TBC and i havent had that feeling, and in my opinion cataclysm content is really good... to be honest i had more fun with cata than wotlk and tbc
I had 3 mages 1 alliance 2 horde. God I loved that class anyway enjoy the game... it's just not for me anymore.
I think the problem is Blizzard got greedy. They thought their IP was so great, that they could sell us half an expansion and everyone would just go along with it. Unforunately, they thought wrong. At this point, they have several options:
- bring in a completely new team for the next expansion
- bring up level 60, 70 and 80 servers with reduced subscription options to please people that like the old content/world
- contract out artwork/content design to a 3rd party like they did with Naxx and add some content to Cata pronto. This might prop up subscription numbers
- reduce subscription costs from $15/month to $10/month and or offer subscription specials
- bring some new life into the game with GM events on each realm. This is done on private servers and people love it!

- after playing cata from lvl 1 to 83 i tried the old (before cata) content again and i found the old maps soooo boring i stoped right there... cata made the maps born again for good....
- its easier to have GM events on a private server cos theres 1 or 2 servers and as much as 3k ppl only playing which requires only even 1 GM to do the events.... while the official WoW has so many realms it would need tons of GMs at all times lol, IMO

I don't that is the case at all.
I think Blizz realized that it would get limited return on another full +10 levels expansion for the very reason that many posters are saying: just more rinse and repeat. Instead they put more resources into rebuilding the lower level zones for new players (and rerolls) as well as rebuilding them for player flight.
Blizz is probably well aware that WoW will be in a subscriber decline soon, if it isn't already. Blizz is just optimizing its strategy for a mega-popular game that is getting long in the tooth.
Ya, poor Blizzard and their magical money generating machine.
I think that WOW may have peaked in terms of subscription numbers but the party is in no way over. I doubt you'll start to see any major decline for at least a few more years.
As far as the community goes, it seems like pretty much the same bunch of morons and "uber" jerks that have always plauged the title.
Personnaly, I still find the game fun overall. I rarely play more than a month or two at a time.
Honestly, I could see WoW lasting at LEAST another 5 years, maybe 10? People still play diablo 1 and 2. I know different games, but still. Even when this new Blizz MMO comes out, they are not going to be pulling the plug on WoW any time soon, even if they lose %90 of their current players. Sure content may slow down or stop all together, servers may close down, but it's not going anywhere for a while. People still have fun playing it I guess

My theme song.

It started going downhill for me when they implemented dungeon queues and even further back, cross server battlegrounds.
The only community interaction you get is if you hop on the treadmill with other people to get pixel crack from tired boss formats.
The community sucks so bad because Blizzard effectively neutered the ability for it to flourish.

Party is over for me. PVP balance is just awful and that's the part of the game I play the game for.
He who keeps his cool best wins.
What happened to pvp balance?
I pvp-ed a lot at 80, haven't at 85.
When I was 80 in WotLK, Paladins were the OP class imo.

I guess it's all subjective.
