As I've stated, my only issues are cosmetic - the combat animations and character models. But that horse is already dead.
For the sake of the genre, I'd love to see RIFT do well.
The reason you cant find any games that rift cloned is because there are none. Just because it has things that worked from all kinds of games does not make it a clone. that just means that the devs where smart. Lets look at it this way a clone is something that when you put A and B next to each other you cant tell them apart. So lets try it out you say its a WoW clone
WoW Rift EQ2 WAR
Questing X X X X
Multiclass - X - -
Instance X X X X
Crafting X X X -
pvp X X X X
Guilds X X X X
Public quests - X - X
Now i Could go on but i think you get the point by now not one of these games are a (clone) of the other yes they may have some thing the same but a clone they are not.
Idd!
What Trion did with Rift is JUST the same Blizzard did with WoW. Taking all the good stuff from other previous mmorpgs and polish/expand them.
That's what makes Rift a good game, and thats the fact. Not saying Rift will be for everyone(WoW isn't even for everyone), but if other mmorpgs fanboys don't see that... they have to open their mind imo...
Yeah... That must be it. Because once that new car smell leaves suddenly all the games Rift "cloned" will suddenly have dynamic content and flexibility in their class systems and rivals most sandbox games...
Dynamic content? pfft, random public quests and arcade like monster invasions. Those will grow old and will wither and die just like WAR's PQs.
Class flexibility that rivals most sandbox games? No, you have quite a bit of options but only a handful that actually work well together, and even then, you're still locked into certain classes and rolls.
That's all Rift brought to the table. Randomized PQs and multiclassing. Everything else has been done before (and better) in other games.
You know I am going to have to chime in, because to much BS is being slung around. First off does Rift's quest do it better than say WoW's quest? You say no. I say yes. Why do I say yes. Simple answer. If I have to go get 5 crystal shards from Fae Faeries in Rift - I kill five - I get five shards in Rift. In WoW I need 5 talons from purple drakes. I need to kill upwards of 30 drakes and I will finally get the drops I need to get my 5 talons. That is the difference. One is a tedious time-sink - the other isn't.
You just took me back in time - to when I was killing boars in WoW - trying to get "goretusk livers". I was amazed at how many of these things were walking around WITH NO LIVER!

i had a great time playing rift. i would say that rift is a nice middle area between what WoW has been doing, and what GW2 is planning to bring to the table. i found leveling to be much easier in rift then other games because u dont need to quest to do it. the "rifts" offer great exp and loot, while allowing for some pretty chaotic battles. the questing is rewarding due to the frequent gear upgrades as rewards. the spec system is best if u limit urself to primarily building up 2 souls per "role" . this allows u to get deeper into the talent trees and get the better abilities. adding a second "role" wasnt not very expensive and def worth it if u want to diversify ur playing. the third "role" i bought was not worth the large amount i paid for it and i found i never had cause to use it. doing the "dual" roles allowed me to maximize the rogue's usefullness by being heavy ranged dps when needed, then switching to deadly assisin/ mini tank when running in a small group or tight situation. i love hearing people complain about a game because it is too much like their game/ but any game that isnt like their game will fail miserably at launch because it's different. quit crying. this was fun.

Yes the rifts in Rift and dynamic events in GW2 have some similarities but to say that Rift is halfway between WoW and GW2 is abit much even for those feeding the rift hype.

I'm playing Aion for the next month or so til Rift hits. Nothing else is appealing to me. I tried Vanguard again. The leveling process got me down, far too difficult and slow for my tastes. At least Aion keeps you moving even though it feels a bit slow too. But at least it's doable. It's pretty too and tends to remind me, graphically of Rift in some ways. However, once Rift launches I'll be so happy because, as mentioned, the Dynamic content is what separates Rift from everything else. Matter of fact GW2 is going to blow us away as well.
Dynamic content truly is the next step for this genre. Although....I wonder if SWTOR will be the last great "traditional" MMO that doesn't use Dynamic Content but is persuing a different path. Can't wait to find out.

You just could explain WHY they are better... atm this is just a fanboy post.
THey arent better...
I asked for a game that offered dynamic content that focused on group play within the game world (none instanced) Not one does it except WAR and PQs are static and rely on massive server pop to function, they might as well not exist.
I never asked about Pvp and he never brought up anything that has a flexible class system like Rift...
If i wanted to play a vanilla mmorpg with no dynamic content with strict class systems I would just play lotro.
My issue is that i can't because Rifts keep me busy while im leveling, they take me away from the vanilla quest chains and let me play with other people outside a instance. Not im having trouble enjoying myself because all these other mmos are basically bland single player rpgs until you decide to do a dungeon...
Well thank you for recommending AoC. Before I go ahead and download a trial (im serious I need something to play) I want to ask does AoC offer dynamic content. See, I need something too mask the terrible quest progression that's virtually destroyed this sub-genre and rift does a good job of masking it. Also does AoC offer a class system even remotely as flexible?
Why don't you spend more time playing Rift and less time on this website worrying about what other people think about the game?
Can't play rift right now the event is over smart guy.
Why do you think i want them to point me to this imaginary game thats better than rift and offers the same features...
Smart guy? Thats cool, I was merely suggesting that if the people's opinions on this forum are bothering you then simply find something else to do then read what is bothering you. Sorry if I struck a nerve.
a.)Hello all. Somewhere along the thread I saw an opinion that I cannot find right now so I cannot quote it. Anyway, the opinion was about AoC animations looking alot like Rift ones. Since this is an absurd I give you a random PVP video from AoC game. Check it out and if you are not a fanboy you will have to admit that AOC, multiple award winner in animation category is far superior product in this category.
I mean seriously, when I first time jumped in Rift I thought my character is taking a shi t in air.
And on top of that, this is not all from AoC. They have an improved engine on test server.
b.) The other thing is dynamic content. I never fully understood why LOTRO and AoC don't produce random NPC sieges of player hubs. Especcialy AoC, since it is just an improved engine of AO and any AO player can tell you that alien attacks were regular on Borealis and the clan city I can't remeber the name. Was it old tarantia maybe?
Aliens dropped regular items they normally drop in a raid. Maybe a BRC ring raid to Old Tarantia would be a nice thing. Or random faction in Khitai attacking other faction outpost. The options are there, the technology is there ... why these things never happen is a good question.

IM not a clueless fanboy. I would never compare AoC graphics and animations with Rift. AoC looks amazing. I was simply asking if it offered dynamic content similar to rifts/invasions to mask boring quest lines and flexible character builds similar to rift.
For me personally, it would probably be a great game, if i didnt feel like i have played it already.
Is there a better type of this MMO out there? Not sure... But that doesnt take away from the fact that this type of MMO has been done to death, and in my opinion, we really don't need a whole lot more of them.
Perhaps its just spite now. I'm voting against these "clone" MMOs with my wallet, and I refuse to buy another one.

Rift made my skin crawl. From looking at the gameplay videos it was a "WoW-WAR clone." The animations in some videos looked cheap. And to top it all off there were all these Rift fanatics claiming it was amazing, awesome, addicting. I was tired of hearing about it.
Then I tried the beta last week. During character creation, the first 10 levels, no matter how much I tried to resist, I found myself liking Rift. Everything is polished, polished, polished. That's one thing you can't deny about Rift. It out WoWs WoW in simplicity and game flow, moving from quest to quest to quest. It's action packed, there is always some place being attacked by creatures spewing out of a different kinds of rifts. Many different ways to gain xp: Quests, PvP, Dungeons, Rifts. The class system is a breath of fresh air. You can pick just the abilities you want, finetuning a custom class perfect for a health-leeching-warlock, stealth-slice-n-go-rogue, curse-afflicting-tank, or 50 other things.
The videos of game animations I saw were just people with low end systems. On my system the animations were great, especially the magic animations. Melee animations were a little stiff. They aren't "new and unique" some people complain, but they are high quality. People also complain that the whole game art style is too WoW-ish. But to for me, after playing the game, I can look at any random screenshot and say "That is Rift." It may take a few seconds lol, but I can do it. On maximum graphics the game looks like Halle Berry.
In the end actually playing rift was a surprise. I wanted to dislike it for being similar to WoW, but I ended up being impressed with how sleak and polished everything was, the customness of the class system, high quality animations, the smoothness of the quest pickups and completions, and fast-pace-constant-invasion atmosphere. Rift will appeal to some people and turn others off. It's not a sandbox, it's not doing something completely different from the current standard MMO rules. But it does add a few cool twists to the current standard MMO, while polishing it all to a diamond like shine.
Well thank you for recommending AoC. Before I go ahead and download a trial (im serious I need something to play) I want to ask does AoC offer dynamic content. You've been drinking the kool-aid lately Rock, just because Rift might be better than anything else from your perspective being at the top of a hill of bad doesn't make the game good, at least in many foiks eyes.
The game they want may not exist, doesn't mean they'll accept what Rift has to offer, they'll actually just chose to not play for now. (and of course, complain bitterly on these forums)
Kyleran this is like the EVE forums all over again. People bashing a game that hardly got out of the tutorial.
Similar to EVE, Rift does not come into its own until 10-15 levels in. Before that your stuck with one spec that looks exactly like WoWs system, doing basic quests designed for non-mmo gamers in a small cramped zone.
They log off after they see that and then write entire 1000+ word reviews as if they played the game since Beta1.
Its just like the EVE forums and I wouldnt stand it then and I wont stand for it now.
OK, fair enough, I haven't played Rift yet, but I intend to because the Rifts alone sound like something different from a PVE perspective. And its a fair request that people play a game to certain point before making sweeping judgements about how the entire game will play. (I recall when WOW first came out I didn't think it really hit its stride until level 30 or so when a players talent points really started to come into play.)
But I was merely pointing out that no matter how much better Rift is than any other game out there right now, and even if there is no game anyone can point to that offers more, doesn't mean its enough for some folks and they'll probably continue to slam it for what it isn't rather than what it offers.
The lack of a "good" game (in their eyes) does not mean one has to accept that Rift or any other game is good. (again, in their opinion) It's just the best of the bad.
Me, I've decided to look for the fun in every new game, and focus on that rather than bemoan what they might not have that I would prefer. (which is a hybrid between DAOC and EVE)
So I'll play Rift for the change in scenery, the Rifts, creating and customizing my characters and gnashing my teeth when they nerf my FOTM build that I've finally mastered.

im not trying to feed the hype... 3 weeks ago i didnt know anything about this game.. i said it was fun. and based on what information is available about GW2, this game does seem to fall in the middle area between the 2 games. i'm waiting for ToR personally, but like i said...rift was fun
Yeah... That must be it. Because once that new car smell leaves suddenly all the games Rift "cloned" will suddenly have dynamic content and flexibility in their class systems and rivals most sandbox games...

I was reading this thread at work and it made me wonder. Rift is a good game in it's own right. It does what it does correctly, but don't go beyond.
Was really hyped after the 3rd beta test, i pre-ordered it. Fourth beta test, my enthusiasm went down, I don't know what it was, I spent a lot of time trying to figure it out, but still had some fun. On the fifth beta test, played one day then I found myself re-installing and playing Final Fantasy XIV.
The rifts and invasion are nothing spectacular for me. Wasn't I defending Al Zhabi from beastmen invasions in 2006? Those beastmen would capture npcs and we would have to go fetch them back if we didn't defend the town properly. While I was playing more and more, I would find rifts to be a nuisance, I would not even want to participate in them. It's all a zerg to kill mobs. In events, at least in the 4th beta, no need to group up to get xp and loot. Overall it was just disturbing the very linear questing. At least in WoW, you could go to another zone to level if you wished it.
Now lets see the Ascended Class System. While at first I found it amazing, I now question it. A lot of the "talents" overlapse, all the attacks do similar damage aside from being a different element type. To me it now feels like lets take AoE healing make it one soul, HoT healing make it one soul. Honestly in other games, it would have been grouped together and less redundant. It is good to change role on the fly. But still, in FFXI I had 20 jobs offered to me, but we had to level them all to gain some benefits for our sub job. Even in FFXIV, you can level all your jobs and mix and match abilities you want. So the ACS is not another strong point for me.
But the worst for me is Rift is another solo fest game, where it will be hard to make a good connection and friendship just like in WoW. While you may say public grouping will make groups, yes they will, but will you have time while in them to really get to know your fellow players? Heck Rift gave me the taste to start FFXI all over again.
Lol,same.
Yeah FFXIV isn't the perfect game, but i love how everything is difficult and takes more time.
The repair system, the social aspects of the game, the crafting system, the guild marks.
Yesterday i bought 500k in limonites/iron ores/iron sand,crafted tons of nuggets,and sold them.
I made 1,5kk of profit in 1 day,the game is f. great if you actually play your own way.
FFXIV is a niche game,Rift players would never play a game so difficult, they need hand holding trough all the levels, and then, raiding.
You know I am going to have to chime in, because to much BS is being slung around. First off does Rift's quest do it better than say WoW's quest? You say no. I say yes. Why do I say yes. I get it,you want easy games.
Rift is perfect for you.
How is having logical drops easier? Why did it ever make sense that some zhevras have no hooves and some boars were born minus their livers?

I happen to like Rift for what it is- a fun game for me and a few friends to play for a few months.
It is not the 2nd coming of the MMO Messiah.
And do you really need other people to tell you what to enjoy and spend your free time on? Especially on these jaded forums?
Grow some hair on your sack and dont worry about what other people like or dislike.

Why do you think it was you who I answered to?

I get it,you want easy games.
Rift is perfect for you.
Western games....they......suck

How is having logical drops easier? Why did it ever make sense that some zhevras have no hooves and some boars were born minus their livers?
