Main thing that makes rift different from wow:

BashirBashir Member Posts: 85

The community comes together to help each other.

This might not last but at least for now, there's a bit of camaraderie between the players.  I've been in numerous raids where  we just rode across the zone saving little quest hubs, closing rifts, destroying footholds, etc.  All the while, absorbing new raids into the fold until we ultimately finished what we set out to do.

gear didn't matter, dps didn't matter, achievements don't matter, loot didn't matter.

like i said before, it might wear off but for now it is miles ahead of wow mainly because of the community.

Community is usually like that in BETA because they know their character is useless for release. During the real game everyone will be greedy.

  • PhirmwarePhirmware Member UncommonPosts: 43

I hope you're wrong, Chris.  As I'd be a sad panda.

Right now I've been having similar experiences with grouping, and it's been a blast.  Though in my experience, you get alot of not-so-nice people in beta who know they won't be playing the actual game, and want to be idiots just for the sake of being an idiot.  Not so much this time, I've ran into mostly good folks.

Actually,i find the community to be one of the worst i haver ever seen.

The global chat is just terrible.

    "RIFT HAS SKILLS,WOW CLONE"

you can read crap like that the whole time.

It's funny how they say it's not a wow clone but at the same time they can't stop talking about wow.

  • AlyvianAlyvian Member Posts: 342

the cast majority is in 1-9 and some of it in 10-19 chat, just leave those channels and ya will instantly have a better community experience

and i am gonna go out of a leg but after launch people will still group up like this, why? simple cause zonewide events arent soloable. (have fun soloing the elite things)

I have given up trying to defend Rift from the ignorant 'wow clone' masses, the game will do pretty well. Haters will always be haters.

    Currently playing : Darkfall
    Character name : Aeola Anara
Played: Almost every P2P MMO you can get your hands on, notably:
Daoc, SWG, LOTRO, WAR, AoC + Dozens more

Community seems pretty much the same as any other which is predominantly....well... a*** hats. You know mages rolling need on plate, people rushing in to 'tag' a named mob, few that know how to type 'please' or 'thank you'.  As for the zerg that rides from rift to rift without a moments thought, or a single word,   well no difference there either really.

  • King_KumquatKing_Kumquat Member Posts: 492

    To OP, prove it.

I've had fun grouping in just about every MMO I've played in, even the bad ones like RIFT. That's not really a selling point.

But if you can show a video or give more precise moments and give a proper compare and contrast to a moment from WoW I'd consider this something with substance. Seeing as it's just free hype for a wow-clone, you've left me wanting.

I found most players would not join groups for anything even when the spawns were overwhelmed and quests were taking forever. I'd run into someone working on the same mobs I needed, ask if they wanted to group up and get told no.

This isn't just a problem with Rift, however, it's widespread in MMOs .

This happens in EVERY MMO to launch since WoW. I remember hearing it in Fallen Earth, Final Fantasy XIV, hell I heard it in Earthrise last night when I was able to stay on longer than 10 minutes and even Darkfall.

What people fail to realize is that if Rift becomes half as popular as some are hoping it will, the game will have plenty of "wow crowd".

You people have somehow convinced yourselves, through hating of wow, that wow somehow breeds douchebags. It's the amount of people and how the general public can be in video games and especially the internet. The more popular/mainstream anything gets the more douchebags that will be involved, it's simple statistics.

Also asking for flames is trolling.

I love when people call any game a WoW-clone.  You should actually be calling it an MMORPG-clone, as WoW had nothing original either.

WoW has it's good points, originallity not being one of them.

No offense, but.....you just described EVERY beta and MOST games outside of WoW itself.  I have never been in any beta since WoW's release that wasn't this way.

     You are absolutely, 100% correct!

Betas are always like that.  WOW expansion betas are usually filled with ´nicer´ people too.  The reason is pretty obvious, nothing you do really matters.   People aren´t in a hurry to get things done, they spend more time taking in the scenery and care less about gear upgrades...

On the other hand, every server holds more or less the same amount (and percentage?) of douchebags, regardless of how many people play a game in general.

Main thing that makes Rift different from WoW: ONLY, and let me emphasize; ONLY GRAPHICS. So after you buy the game, don't go crying: "It's same, old same old."

  • AlotAlot Member Posts: 1,948

I really don't understand what has happened between Beta 3 and 5. When I played in Beta 3, on Cloudsong (EN PvP-server), the community was great, much better than on the official forums. Everyone was being social, no one mentioned the term WoW-clone at any time, no one would lash out against another, and people could freely talk about other games they were looking forward to. In Beta 5 however I landed in a cesspit of trolls as soon as I entered the game.

Well, lets look at it backwards and start counting the things thankfully are not copied from WoW. I for one enjoy the lack of arenas, the lack of flying mounts, the lack of ilevels, the lack of damage meters. Also dungeoning within the server population will hopefully create some stronger ties than the fed ex dungeoning of WoW these days.

Wish there were no achievements, but oh well, can't have them all.

Beta 3 was more closed and focused towards those people interested in the game. Beta 5 had so many keys floating around, you could easily call it open beta. In other words, pretty much everyone that was even remotely interested entered to check the game. The disruptive WoW clone talk was not generated by many people, but it's easy to get baited, especially if you're not familiar with the mentality of the people who do the baiting.

I find this hard to belive, since i played the beta 1 in briarcliff and it was the same, nothing has changed in beta 5.

oh,and a lot of crap about how gw2 will change the whole genre, bah,to each their own i guess,GW2 will get even more bashed than FFXIV when the hype and all the lies are proven wrong.

And thats his point.  The OP said this game has an awsome community, when in reality it isn;t any better then any other game, including WoW.

Also, the OP thinks Rift has some great community just because player flock together around zones?  Really?  I've played a few beta events and sure i roll with tons of people fighting off rifts and invaders.  But can somone please tell me the names of the players that joined me in raid parties?  No?  Thats ok, I cause I couldn't tell you either.  I fought hundreds of NPC's, closed many Rifts, fought many invasions, with hundreds of people and won just about every time. YEt tehre is one thing I have never done this whole time in beta.  Thats type anything in my chat channel.  Not once did I say hello or goodbye.  Not once did I ask "hey where is everyone going to? ".  Not once did I ask what is our stratedgy to defeat the enemy. Not once did I ask or say anything to anyone.   And i everyone else I knew who tried it said they did the same thing.

I really wish MMO's would back to  making games that really did promote playing with thousands of otehr people andalso include incentives to actually communicate with them.  As of right now we have MMO's designed to be solo games with chat channels or group games that require you not to commuincate with anyone to play.

Really silly. I am starting to despise the new game generation and its so called "community".

People are having fun and that's a good thing.  I will be looking to group with players all the time for some rift fun, and some PvP on the side it's always welcome on my book.

well the community has to come together or else elite mobs will spawn from the rifts and destroy every quest hub, you cant ignore it, when a zone invasion starts you are involved whether you like it or not.

lol You're comparing a beta of like a couple thousand people to a  game with a community of 14 million?

The main different thing about Rift are the rifts themselves which are real cool.
