Guild Wars 2: Jon Peters Talks Guardians

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Late last week, ArenaNet announced the latest Guild Wars 2 class: The Guardian. MMORPG.com Industry Relations Manager Garrett Fuller caught up with ArenaNet Game Designer Jon Peters to talk about the Guardian and what the class brings to the game. Check out our exclusive interview and then weigh in with your comments below.

You have not mentioned armor for the class, only weapons. Can we expect some great armor designs for this bring of justice?

We have a ton of great armor designs for the entire game and this does not leave out the guardian at all. If you like highly ornate, gruesome looking, fantastical, or even just plain vanilla plate or chain armor, each one has all the fine details you can appreciate for a long time.

Guardian looks cool and sounds more interesting than you're typical Paladin. Can't wait for GW2!

Nice interview, picked up a few new details I haven't seen in any of the other interviews.

Gives me a little bit more of a feel for just how a Guardian fights, and what the weapon choices mean.  Though I'm still wondering what, exactly, a torch does for them.

OMG!!! when are they gonna release this game!! better not be like D3... waiting FOREVER!

Good interview, I'm not surprised at all that they've recycled some of the monk spells onto guardians. I'm interested to see how they'll look when a guardian casts some of these spells as compared to monks.

I can see it now . Pickup Groups lining up outside dungeons spamming , " GLF Guardian " . It sounds like a profession that could be a huge asset to a group if played by someone who knows what they are doing .

This really does sound like an interestingly, versatile profession and it's great that the interview went into more detail, with each question bringing up a different situation & solution for the Guardian. Now I'm hoping that it won't be long before more professions are released. One reveal a month would be nice.

I doubt it would be like that since a lot of professions can also play support well. It'll be more about each proession choosing the right weapons for a Dungeon.

Clearly a W/Mo from GW, great to learn more about this profession.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I love examples when explaining things so this gets props for that.

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.

Okay, I think when playing the Guardian I'm going to run around screaming "JUSTICE!!" every time I'm about to unleash an attack on someone.

    This is not a game.

Me too, and I tend to use examples when I am giving explanations.

Just from what described in the interview, the Guardian really sounds like my personal playstyle.

At first when they announced the Guardian I wasn't too interested in it. After reading this and a few more articles this class sounds pretty damn good!

A plate wearer that viably uses a scepter and torch. I love the innovation and stereotypes that A-Net is breaking already.

a Wammo only protects himself and keeps himself alive with monk skills, while a guardian clearly is made to protect others effectively

    great post mmorpg!

GW2 would really change the mmo standard for the next years to come, so we can expect that newer mmo after GW2 would be much much better than any mmo we have today.

Great interview.  Really enjoyed the examples provided of skills rather than generic descriptions of how the playstyle would be.

It really seems like it is going to more of an advanced class.

They have a lot of paragon and ritualist skills in there as well. The spirit weapons are literally ripped from the ritualist class, and the way they can spread their buffs to the rest of the group is very reminiscent of paragons.
