Basically you went from being upset that people were bashing you. To being happy that so many people are paying attention to your review.

That to me just screams that all you want is attention and to rile people up so that they talk about you. As someone else stated, you care about the forum and being talked about rather than the MMO.

The only part where you said that the game could be the "Next big thing" was in the introduction. Overall the "Preview" ( Which does not preview any of the content like the soul system or RIFTS, or at least not well as your only complaint of the soul system is the pet. Let alone the fact that you didn't even put in enough effort to do the research to see how many souls there are ) is badly written and you leave out serious issues regarding the major features, like the balancing issues, racials, RIFTS being somewhat monotone and without a dynamic aspect to them and so on.

You are entitled to your own opinion, but do not get upset when people bash you regarding a wall of text that you seem to think is the best thing written.

I have my concerns with the game, but I don't cry when people bash me, the problem with the internet is that it is now, in the 21st century accessible by everyone, even people that ( God forbid you might take away their first amendment right ) should have their mouths ( or in this case their fingers ) sown shut.

Sounds like fun reading thread, and I'd love playing the devil's advocate there.

The ACTUAL size of MMORPG worlds: a comparison list between MMO's

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:

A typical example of ''There's nothing wrong with me, it's the rest of the word!''

It's like on those bad days where you feel life is crap, but when you think about it it's not because the world has changed, it's because you view it differently.

This is also what I've observed on the WoW forums. We have a group of good posters, a group of bad posters, and (the majority) a group of posters that bitch about how bad the forum is, while not contributing with anything other than leaving everyone with a sour taste in their mouth.

You should watch 'The Number 23'.

Hello new poster to MMORPG.com.   Thanks for responding.   It seems you think enough of me to be giving such a response, so I feel the need to respond.  First, I write for fun.   Second, I do not get paid.  It's a blog.  I have fun writing it.   Am I a bad writer?  Most assuredly - yes.   Anyone that has read my blogs in the past knows this.  I never claimed to be professional writer, game journalist, or an English professor.   I just write about games..mostly MMORPG's.    I write what I experience in games.   What I like and dislike.   All opinions.   Though, I may be a poor writer, it seems many more readers failed reading comprehension 101.

    Thanks for commenting.

Thats an old issue. They have to sell and misinformation does sell. removing unwanted questions or opinions contirbutes to increase misinformation about a game.

This is very true. "Officials" will do their best so that the blatant flaws of their games, even if the game is otherwise quite good, are silenced, so they get more gullible people to buy their product.

getting offended isnt required, we are all here to talk about games, no need to take it personally or get bent out of shape because others 'threaten' ones self identity and validity as projected by their choice of product.

Talking about games is good, teala was just talking about games, no need for anyone to be offended. They are just games.

But yes, as I and others have said, these forums are exactly the same as the official forum in how people choose to react to negative posts, except the 'report' button is spammed here more I would guess on anyone who dares to dissent. It's all cool though, I have been around these forums for a long time and have seen posters come and go. They usually start out full of vinegar they tend to get less personally offended about game opinions and mature into better posters as time goes on. This game has brought a lot of new users to this forum though from what i can see, probably more then a few from the official forums, and so the general Rift community is looking extremely over sensitive and ultra defensive, crying troll! and hater! at every opinion they don't like. Thats just the way it goes.

I think what we all forget is that every forum and every game has it's own culture, and Rift's right now is a weird mix as it settles itself down. It may get better, it may not, but I know I stopped going there a while back simply because of exactly what Teala describes.

You make some valid points.  I will say that you are completely ignoring the fact that there are trolls and haters whom do post here and on the Rift official forums.  These people know what they're doing when they say the game is fail, <MMO game of choice> clone or completely lie about what the game is like.

You have people starting threads on the official forums linking other games (TERA, GW2 (mostly), or SWTOR.)  The only reason people do that is to try a suade others to dislike the game also in favor of their new upcoming game.

People post things with many different motivations and try their best to poison a community that's growing because they wish to see the game fail.  I have never seen on here or on the official forums were someone critiques Rift in a mature fashion and got flamed for it.  Most posts that start flame threads are

    A)  Topics that have been posted hundreds of times, but said person wants to keep the debate going in a new thread to get more attention.  This is done despite the fact that other threads will have dozens of pages on the same issue.

    B)  People that make broad statements in a severe negative tone about things in the game and what it lacks without seeing higher end content.

    C)  People feel they have a valid point, but use words that others find insulting.  Example of this:  "How can anyone play this game?  It's so dull."  This is fine if it's the lead in to the explaining why it's dull.  The statement left alone opens it up to flame bait.

    D)  People ignore valid counter arguements and start new threads on the same topic because they were countered from the previous thread and feel that they'll try to start the discussion all over again.

    E)  People who like the game read those that try and change the game too much or into something else, might change the game into something they don't like anymore.  This creates apprehension and anger in some posters.

    F)  People whom post misinformation and others will correct them only to see the same person posting the same misinformation the next day in another thread.

It's all about context.  Approach the issue you have clearly and avoid incendary remarks and you will get a fair civil discussion from most people.  Jump into a thread or create one lobbing grenades and expect a flame war.

Go and check their forums right now. Tons of thread titles with critiques.

It is your blog you are entitled to write whatever you want. It just should not have been featured at this site. The fact that it was allowed it to be linked from the Rift forums and given the prominence it was not due. However looking at the number of buries prominence is not the appropriate term in retrospect.
