Hey to each their own.  If you dislike the game, simply don't play it.

It is interesting that there are so many people who are falling in love with the game because right now it is "the new hip mmo" (just like AION was when it came out, we all saw how that went) and also, it is in beta with mass invites going out and is currently free, so of course people will be happy, everyone likes free and to be included!

Hopefully for Trions sake and the MMO world this game lasts.  Even if you dislike it, can you hope for it to be sustaining?

The reason I say that is because not many new MMOs are really sustaining, or keeping a decent population..  They all are eventually dieing out and maybe if a new trend started, like a new mmo that keeps a good majority of its population, maybe other new mmos would stand a better chance.

(Granted you can say all these new MMOs are garbage, but they aren't, sure some may be, but it is the mmo community that is abandoning every single game and allowing it to die, or nearly die.)

The game can only be blamed partially, the other blame belongs to us, the gamers, for being so demanding and it seems a growing % of us useless trolls who do nothing but badmouth players and games because they have a poor real life, or perhaps not a poor real life, but just low self esteem or are just perhaps, a bully. (or got bullied and now are turning to a bully online)

Maybe this wont be the game for all of this, but who knows.  A game, no matter how well built will not be successful if the people playing it don't have other people to play with, or fight against, depending on the game.

I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.

Tell me about it.   I created a post very similar to this about the Rift community.   Seems I am not the only one that found their forums full of some of the most immature nerdlits(oh yes...they are immature nerdlits) that praise the game as the next coming.  Say something the least bit negative, and like piranha, they smell blood, they immediately move in for the kill as a mob, and devour it.   Forget constructive criticism.   They'll have none of it.  Even if you praise the parts of the game that are good, they'll neglect that fact, and attack the things you found in game annoying, poorly implemented, or down right bad.    Funny thing I learned during beta 6 in the games chat, and on their own forums.   Many of the things I found in my preview that I pointed out could be better, were being repeated in the chats by other players, and on their own forums.  Imagine that.

If I had a company building  MMORPG and it was coming close to release I would pay them all an hours overtime a day to go out and post heavily on forums around the gaming sites bigging up my product.

    Just saying.

This is nothing, you should have seen the Darkfall forums.

I'm a huge fan of Rift, but even I don't agree with the counterattacks on trolls I have seen.

I enjoy the game (note that I didn't use like, just enjoy), but the more I play, the more I know the hype will only last a couple of month after release. I predicted the same for Conan and Warhammer, and I was right.

And you know what? I will NOT waste a tear if the game ends like all other clones, a ghost world. I will have had my few months of fun, and that's it. Because all those games who are just more of the same aren't worth more.

So yes, I actually hope all "more of the same with different spices" games will only last a short time. Because I still hope that someday, the developers will understand that giving the same crap over and over again to MMO players doesn't work long term, most players are looking for something REALLY new, and not another clone with some different gadgets pretending to be innovative.

I'll use an analogy here.  It's like walking through the desert and slowly dying of thirst when BOOM you can barely move but you come across a small well of water that's a bit dirty but you don't care, its WATER.  So you drink and you swear its the best water you have ever tasted.

Rift is like that.  We've been starving for a good MMORPG for 5 years or more and finally we have one that is better than anything in the last 5 years so we grab it and it tastes great.  At least until something better comes along and we go...eeww, that wasn't as good as I thought it was....but it got us out of that slump at least.

That's how I see it.  So, come March 1st I'll be in Rift hungrily gulping it down.  And when SWTOR and GW2 launch I'll look back and thank Rift for keeping the genre alive.

Well that was fun.  See, I have to amuse myself just to make it to March 1st. /cry

I agree to a point.  See the problem is, that if this game actually succeeds, then guess what.    This genre is f-$#%-ed.  It'll mean 5 to 10 more years of more of the same.    I am burned out on total themepark, gear driven, grindy games that all you do in the end game is run the same PvP instanced maps, or the same static dungeons, over and over again.

Rift is a good game for what it is, for the most part, but it is no different than the previous themepark games that have come before it.  If it succeeds, investors will continue to think that it is the only paradigm that works, and that just plain sucks for those of us that want more than a stupid, whack-a-mole, themepark game.

Obviously you never experienced the Darkfall forums.  Rift forums are a breath of fresh air compared to that cesspool.  The Rift beta forums contain quite a lot of constructive criticism that does not get shouted down.  People who come in and say "the game just isn't that good" without offering any resaons are leaving themselves open to getting bashed.

And I doubt there is any conspiracy as you imply.  Lots of people just genuinely like the game.

Well, Trion propaganda really disgust me, First I saw that there is something wrong when they publish "We are not in Azeroth anymore" trailer and then when I look in MMORPG`s hype-metar I have feeling that Trion hired some people to artificialy buff Rifts hype.

I guess you do make a good point.  I suppose Fallen Earth wasn't exactly a clone, but its population died pretty quick, or maybe never had a big one to begin with.

Many people do say (I don't want a clone) but in many peoples subconcious I think they really do want a clone.

The age of WoW affected the MMO world, can't deny that.  And many of the players nowadays started with WoW.  Many being more than those who played MMOs pre-WoW.  (This is just speculation, I could be wrong)

So when I say subconciously, that is what I mean.  I am nastolgic for EQ (looking forward to the progression server) and I have a lot of tendensies to wish games were more like EQ.  Sure corpse runs sucked, regaining mana sucked, but that is how it was, and it made (for me) the accomplishment of max level even more sweeter than that of any other MMO.

Since I started with EQ my wants and requirements for an MMO may be different.  I also fell in love with DAoC, and pine for a new mmo to have 3 sides and a good open world PvP, but have yet to see it.

So many others, starting with other mmos, falling in love with other mmos come to expect different things of new mmos than me.  Thus it being difficult to please everyone, but I just think that many of these "newer" mmo players (I know WoW is old now, so they aren't so "new") have a different view of the MMO world than I.   Or even others such as the die hard SWG pre-game changing patch/expansion (i never played SWG) have a different view on what would make an mmo awesome, than I do.

We all want a lot of the same things, but we all different on a lot of the things we want too.  One man's trash could be another man's treasure (or woman's)

But i don't think its blind fanboism.  Its their game.  I understand them.  I dont agree with them on their opinions but its theres.  I am guessing you too don't agree with them.  And here in lies the problem.  Imagine you try a game out and think its the perfect game for you.  You go to the offical forums and start spewing off on how you hate the game.  Granted, I don;t know if you went over there and jsut trolled or was just giving contructive feedback.  Bottom line is though.  Most people who like the game is going to spend more time on the offical forums, hence why you get bombarded with hate for not liking Rift.

Besides, if I had to guess you probably were telling everyone why u hate teh game and they all heard it before.  but why are you even there?  U think this close to launch they are going to be simply revamp teh whole ssytem because certain players don;t like it.

I am curious on what you exactlly said over there.....

      Yeah.

This is nothing new. Have a look over at SWTOR the devs can post rubbish up as a Friday feature and you will have people going Awesome! Love it! Or the best of all people that have never played the game going on about how great it is and how many features it has and how its better than anything else.

At least with Rift people have played it to give the feedback they give. And sure some or many people my disagree but as long as they can back up what they say from the game play then whats the harm. If they started basing their propaganda on the CGI trailer Rift produced or the like then it would be worse.

But form a personal point of view I don't know if it will be awesome or not but it does feel when I play it like a natural sucessor to WoW. And with that in mind I think it will do very very well and if they can use the next few months when it goes live to flesh out the game and make the experience truely gripping then they may well hit and hold a clear number two slot in the top MMOs. (well at least until GW2 comes along).

    Their community is very rabid...

In the game all you see is ass kissing, in the forums aswell, when someone does a constructive criticism they burn it down very quickly...

But on the other side, you have the trolls that haunt their forums aswell...

But still theres no reason not permiting that the community sit down and debate with the people that post constructive feedback, agreeing and disagreeing with certain things, aiming to do a better game after all...

I have. In fact, I'm posting in an even more vicious thread right now. There is so much propaganda on these forums, I can get people not liking a game but here on these forums it turns into an obsession, you'd think someone from the development team murdered their family.

I find it bizarre how much hatred is spewed on these forums.

A natural successor to WoW would have at least one starter area per race, more than one area per level range to go through, and a much much bigger world, along with way more interesting and varied quests and storyline.

A successor is supposed to be an EVOLUTION. Rift is nice, but would only be a devolution if it was a WoW successor, something which it will never become.

    Hell no!

She has a very valid point and we need more people to speak out against the current state of the industry. Rift is a well made game but it's success will only lead to further stagnation. Just so you know, an industry that is stagnating is not a healthy one.

The genre is in desperate need of a "mmorpg stimulation package", to be frank.
