I don't understand.... Well maybe, I understand.... but if I understand then I should not be confused....? So I don't understand. Hmm, yea I guess I don't understand.

HOW CAN OPEN BETA GO AFTER THE GAME HAS BEEN RELEASED? Last I checked, it was called free trial? Is there a wipe after open beta?

Edit: OP fixed his typo. I was seriously going: what is going on?

Same, downloading all the stuff now (had deleted it off my computer a while ago).  I'll be playing EQ on the 15th and probably until swtor comes out.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

My only advice to anyone jumping into the game for the first time during the open beta:

Power through the newbie zones and get to the actual game. I think you may find yourself a new home for a while.

As I've mentioned in a previous post, the lack of quality of the newbie experience is quite startling compared to the actual game, which sort of blows my mind. I can guarantee that pretty much everyone that logs into the game for the first time is going to say to themselves, "Holy EQ2WoWHammer!", because that's exactly what it feels like for the first 6 levels. But when you finally get to dig into the game, you will see that is it all those previous MMOs and more.

Rift does what WoW did, and that is take the best aspects of its predeccesors and blend it together in a fluid experience. As many have said before, Rift doesn't reinvent the wheel, but rather, just makes the wheel give a better ride than the last model. With Rift, I get to play my favorite MMOs of the past all rolled into one...and I think that's what I like about it so much. It's nostalgic, yet new.

I haven't had this much fun in an MMO in years...since WoW Beta actually. Rift is the most polished MMO Beta I've seen since LoTRO, but with A LOT more content.

I'm absolutely agree with everything stated above. If you are looking for polished MMORPG that brings "something new" but not WOW - this game is a potential candidate for you. Though, I haven't decided myself if I going to buy it right now, or later. But after a weekend of testing and leveling several classes to 25th lvl, the only thing that I was slightly disappointed is ballance of some of the classes.

I wish they would just release the game already.

I've preordered and I'm now trying to avoid playing the game too much, because I don't like losing my characters.

And now they're going to have a betaevent lasting full week. Damn you Trion.

Rift truly is a Gem! I've played every major MMO, and started with Muds, and Ultima Online, and culminating to WoW, vanguard, back to Wow etc... The Rift development team has done an amazing job looking at what makes MMO's fun and entertaining. While any one who has played any major MMO will see that Rift borrows from many MMO's, the way they put it all together is what matters.

It's not WoW, it's not EQ2, it's not UO, it's not Vanguard, it's not Aion, it's not Warhammer, yet you will find some familiararity with the game from each. Rift is a Gem, and I highly suggest you participate in the open beta and find out for yourselves. I agree with an above post however, the newbie areas leave alot to be desired, the game really begins to pick up at about lvl 8-10 or so for the mechanics! This game gets a Solid A+ from me!

oh another question    did you guys like the crafting ?

I usually prefer Bows in games that offer guns as well...but since my Rogue was on Defiant side.. thematically i've tried to stick with the machine motif and use guns.

Crafting is very lacking at the moment. Items aren't any better than world drops and there's no positive randomness to make the process interesting. it's very run of the mill and pretty uninspired, there's room for lots of improvement. It's only as you level up your toon and profession that you start to see better recipes available from faction quartermasters and as work order rewards. There have been no reports of recipe drops from mobs anywhere. Pedestrian is the best way to describe it, I got my Runecrafting up to grandmaster, outfitter and butcher up to master.

Crafting is a pretty standard affair. Think LoTRO+WoW.

There is gathering. There is refining. There is crafting.

On a side note, by crafting a certain couple of items, I think I've discovered how I'm going to make my money at the start. image

I found Runes pretty hard to level with a big jump when you sudenly needed 70+ skill to break gear down. Just wonder how you managed GM did you go on massive farms for low level gear to break down for mats?

Lets hope that gets patched image The other nice thing about crafting is that most crafted items, at least early on, are better than what you can get from questing. You can also make items like shoulder pads much earlier than you would get from quests.

Tried the beta but no thanks not for me, tired of the cookie cutter games. Good luck to the other players who will be playing, this style of gameplay just isnt for me anymore. PS hopefully they release more than 3 races thats pretty weak and with racial fixs because forcing players into certain classes depending on race isnt to good ecspecially with only 3 to choose from. Also the quests are the same on both faction sides just altered a tad diffrently.
