Yeah it's really crazy to think about. Remebering 9/11 and then thinking that was around 3,00 people, and this thing is over 100,000 already with more surely to come is a prett scary thought.

Last figures I heard, the death toll was up in 118k. Several were tourists. A collegue from work is currently on vacation in Asia, luckily in Vietnam and not in Thailand.

To lanmoragon: Donuts have hole in them because some baker in the medieval ages did something, forgot what though.

To Bhug: Not to mention that there would be a loud explosion, and just how would you be ableto control the wave to hit a specific area? im going with lanmoragon.

anyway, it really is sad, hopefully they will be able to get back on thier feet soon enough. How big was the tidal wave, anyway?

Natural disasters are the most dangerous threats in life because they are usually quick and undetectable affecting a large area. The death toll is just going to keep rising since they can't clear the corpses faster than they are decaying. There probably will end up being a widespread plague in that region.

It is up to 100,000 dead. Imho it will ultimatly reach 500,000 and possibly 1 million. They will never know exactly how many died, so they are stuck with making a conservative - liberal estimate.

Number dead = 100,000 conservative to 500,000 liberal. image (The conservative estimate will keep increasing, getting closer to the liberal estimate.)

NICE little site showing how one forms, and more:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsunami

"""Unlike the Pacific Ocean, there is no organised alert service covering the Indian Ocean. This is in part due to the absence of major tsunami events since 1883 """

     History of worldwide ones:

    http://www.mapsofworld.com/tsunami/history-map-of-tsunami.html

Hmmm, no history of any happening in the area where the current one happend. Many people who are high level miliatary are hinting that the one that happened recently was the work of a scalar weapon.  Let loose with the intention of "warning" China that even though the USA can never ever win another land war, China can still get erradicated using... scalar weaponry.

Yes, actual, high ranking military people think it:

    -------------------------

And there is the other possiblility... that higher level beings are simply annoyed. Check out the March 16, 2004 issue of the New York Times. (New planets/planetary bodies found in our solar system, and one of them is moving... in a straight line... towards.... our little planet.). Also the recent issue of Discover Magazine. (Either the Nov 2004 or Dec 2004 issue.) Which goes into a bit more detail about the new planets found in our solar system in 2004.

U.S. boosts tsunami aid to $350 million
QUICK DECISION: Stung by charges of being tightfisted and slow to respond, Bush makes tenfold increase in pledged amount

    Saturday, January 1, 2005

Washington -- The United States, which was heavily criticized for its response in the first days of the Asian tsunami disaster, substantially increased its pledge of aid to $350 million Friday.
The new pledge makes the United States the largest donor to the relief effort, followed by the World Bank, which has committed $250 million, and Great Britain, which is offering $95 million in aid.
Secretary of State Colin Powell, who will lead an American delegation touring the devastated region next week, said President Bush had agreed to boost U.S. relief aid from the $35 million previously announced after receiving new reports of the damage across southern Asia and parts of Africa.
"This tenfold increase is indicative of American generosity, but it also is indicative of the need," Powell said Friday after meeting with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan in New York. "The need is great and not just for immediate relief but for long-term reconstruction, rehabilitation, family support (and) economic support that's going to be needed for these countries to get back up on their feet."
Powell suggested the United States might be willing to give even more aid, saying, "I'm not sure $350 (million) is the end number. It's the number that we've settled on for now."
The administration has been reeling from complaints that the president was too slow to come before TV cameras to address the crisis and that the administration's initial offers of financial assistance were paltry.

see...told ya we would donate more. Bush did say that the 35 million wasn't all of it, he was going to give more.
That puts us over the top, we've donated more, 100million more than the world bank. Where's france now? where's jacques shorrak (or whatver) now?
I know it's not a competition to donate the most, it's a crisis where thousands of people have died. I'm just appaled at all the criticism the US has been getting recently.

I think we shouldn't stop at $350 million. I say we go to $350 billion! LETS REALLY RACK UP THAT DEBT PEOPLE! LETS REALLY SPEND ALL THE TAXPAYERS MONEY!

I guess the days of the individuals choice to do with their money what they want to, is gone.

I have heard that when Clinton left office, there was no debt. After Bush took office, debt re-appeared. Sooo...... is this true? If yes, isn't you know who the reason for US debt?

    -----------------------

On a sidenote, the US .... IS .... the World Bank... LOL! Thus the US is basically the ONLY contributer to the relief fund. Last, even if the US officially did not contribute anything... so what? It happened in Asia. How dare the world demand aid from the USA. How dare Asia demand aid from the USA. Something is very wrong with the picture when others demand money from you for something you officially had nothing to do with. image

Let the US give by choice, no matter if they choose yes or no.

No, it's not true. That's just bias media trying to feed you lies, and was most likely conjured to sway the election, and to create hate by foreign countries towards America. And before Clinton left, the economy was on a steady decline, waiting for a sharp increase in jobs, etc.

    So no. It's not true.

Colin Powell mentioned earlier today that this 350 million isn't going to be the end of the US help. We're going to keep on giving.

Yeah with Clinton there was a debt already, Bush made it a bit larger but I don't even think there is a country that hasn't have any debts? That would surprise me.

People are really donating more then I could ever imagine, there was a new plane from america with food and blankets, just to bad it couldn't be delivered because of the rain, and then to know there are some villages that aren't even reached yet. The horror.

One day all will die, surely you but never I.
