Chronomancer should be last released as an "adventurer" profession followed by Mesmer and Assassin.
Background:
Chronomancers are an elite corps of ‘battle mages’. In combat, these warrior wizards rely upon martial and magical arts to expertly dispatch enemy soldiers. Protected by powerful armour, they are moving fortresses in combat. Chronomancers study the arcane and learn to manipulate the temporal plane. When entering the frenzy, their presence disrupts the very fabric of time; nearby enemies are paralyzed and allies move with bizarre quickness.
Function:
The Chronomancer is a melee class that warps time to his team’s advantage. He enters the fray and acts as a moving ward, affecting all characters around him. He is powerfully protected behind sturdy armour. At the expense of energy, he may bash adjacent opponents with magically charged attacks.
Attributes:
1) Temporality (primary) – Augments auras' effects by 0…25%.
2) Acceleration – Improves spells which speed up time.
3) Detention – Affects skills that slow and reverse time.
4) 'Was yet to be announced?'
Strengths:
1) Next to the warrior, the Chronomancer has the strongest armour in the game.
2) The Chronomancer has powerful auras which affect ALL surrounding players.
Weaknesses:
1) He does little damage. Truly effective attacks require lots of Energy.
2) The Chronomancer may only use one aura at a time.
3) Quick to fall fool to energy bankruptcy.
“Chronomancers and Summoners were two of the proposed player professions for Utopia.
This forum post contains many images of the class "Chronomancer", which is traditionally, in fantasy games, a time mage. Other concept art, some very recent, and some dating back even to before Nightfal depicts men and women with a range of weapons, including maces, dual-wielded spears, javelins, halberds, dual-handed swords and dual-wielded axes.”
They just replace the spears, javelins, halberds with rifle
These pictures are from Kekai Kotaki ,named Chronomacer and ChronomancerGirl

Well, they won't make it. The developers already said that Chronomancers are not going to happen.

"Onlinewelten: Will we find a lot of Utopia in Guild Wars 2?
Eric Flannum: There are certainly some things that made their way from Utopia into Guild Wars 2 but these elements are very different than they were originally conceived. For example, the event system is a feature that had its beginnings in Utopia. Other things did not make it over; for example the Chronomancer will not be making an appearance in Guild Wars 2."
Arenanet already came out and said Chronomancer is not one of the professions.
I guess it's nice to dream though?
edit: Gosh darnit. I sure do get Alot of Ninjas.
I heard they had considered putting in the chronomancer, but they just couldn't find the time.
Oderint, dum metuant.
Touché
Since the two heavy armour classes have been announced, Chronomancer isn't happening until an expansion of some kind (if they're adding new classes in expansions)
And we know Mesmer is going to be in, it'd be pretty hard to explain that disappearance...
Speculation says "Assassin" and "Alchemist/Engineer", but who knows
<Welcome to my world>
Chronomancers in this age would not be done justice. It's not possible to play with time that well unless it's a single player game. Slowing down projectiles and what not seem alright, but that's not altering time, that's just slowing an object down.
Shooting a bullet through water will slow it down... but you didn't alter time in anyway. Maybe in some new MMO in the future BASED on time we will see this type of gameplay.
Thx guys , i c now, bu it's still a pity , actually i do hope Chronomancers can appear in GW2 again ,an if the info is true how do u think about "Alchemist/Engineer" this new class
Oh, I don't know... I think it could be fun to have spells that revert things to past states. Pushin somebody to their status 5 seconds ago could be the most amazing elite ever. 'Oh no, I'm almost dead! Heal myself!' 'Okay, well, so let me hit you with my elite, so you're pre-heal'
That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more ways you can play around with time if it's more about the past than the future.
chronomancer sounds more like a class that throws watches to the target o.O fire clock!!!! pshew!!!! lol
You heard wrong, me thinks...They said they wouldn't have chronomancers in GW2, what, over a year ago? With the "when it is ready line, time really isn't something you are fighting against, just something that costs you money. I doubt it would have worked as a class anyways.
@OP: What rock have you been living under? The "Chronomancer" is pretty much cut and paste from early ideas of what it could have been like in GW1 before Utopia got booted, and people stopped trying to get Anet to go back and put them in GW2.
also, outdated class system is outdated. Personally I think that the gaurdian is the chronomancer but better and simpler (but the flavor of time manipulation is cool, so don't get me wrong and think I wouldn't have enjoyed such a class if it were comeing true).
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
/rant
ok.... im going to say this for the 100th time.. THERE WILL BE NO ASSASSIN!! there will be a rouge type or 'assassin type' but not assassin.
Anet anounced a while ago there would be 5 returning classes, 2 classes bassed off of original classes, and 1 brand new enver seen before class ing the guild wars world.
Now we all know that theres going to be mesmer.. so guess what? that makes 5 returning classes. Assassin was the 2nd class released with Guild Wars: Factions along with the Ritualist, so if it would be placed in the returning class block.
Ill break this down for you guys If there is an assassin in Guild Wars 2, There will be no Mesmer, and vice versa. So please, stop saying there will be an assassin.,
/rant off
Also Chronomancer was rulled out of guild wars 2 about a year ago.(atleast on release, i say this even thoe it does seem to not ever be included but no one can tell but anet).
Taht's generally what people mean when they say assassin. Just like BML. Of course the class was not called "blue mace lady," but that's the only thing we can use. It's the same for assassin... no one knows what it's called, so we just call it something similar to what we know. GW1 did not have a rogue, it had an assassin, and so, anything similar SHOULD be called assassin... AS A PLACE HOLDER.
Would you rather we call it rogue? Because at this point, that's not correct either.
Yeah it's arguing over semantics really, Assassin? Rogue? Nightstalker? whatever, I just hope there isn't stealth.
Thanks for bringing up the 5-2-1 thing , it must have slipped past me.
Oh and about time based play in multiplayer games, check out Achron, Freakin awesome take on it. And I hope more games look at the concept.
<Welcome to my world>
mesmer will be returning (Its the most unique profession in gw1 making it an obcvious canidate) , and I beleive they stated another class will be simular but changed(possibly an assasin/rogue). Also we know there will be a gunweilding class (a class that specializes in guns) as pistols have yet to be introduced to any profession yet.
the order is anyones guess, whatever they polish first is what we get.
Actually there will be no class that specializes in guns. Anet have already stated that. There will most likely be a class that has the ability to use all of the guns but it will in no way have a focus on them.
Oh I guess I should have refrased that, an engineer like profession that uses guns is more of what I was going for; as apposed to a gunslinger. The part in parenthesis was just to establish that no other profession so far had all guns available to them.
Thanks for catching that
here and I thought class predictions where winding down. Maybe I have been spending too much time on the gw2guru forums. They have been discussed to death over there.
Most people I know generally assume, because of a specific set of concept art where all the classes so far except for necro were revealed, as well as an assassin type (...like caith) and a mesmer type (...like queen Jennah), that both the assassin and the mesmer will have representatives in GW2. leaving one more class.
Unknown class breakdown:
What we know about the unknown class is that it is an adventurer, and that it has a statistically high chance of using guns, rifles in particular, as neither the assassin type or the mesmer type seem to me to be likely users of the rifle. Of course even if one or both of them uses rifles or pistols, the unknown adventurer is still likely to be an effective user of at least one kind of gun.
we know, by extrapolating from the 5 known classes, and from the design philosophy that Anet is using to make there classes, that the unknown adventurer will use both melee and range.
I am assuming that magic type classes and non-magical type classses will be split 4/4 like so:
magical (primarily uses magical methods to do its job): Ele, Necro, Guardian, and mesmer.
non-magical (primarily uses non-magical methods to do its job): warrior, ranger, assassin, and unknown.
this could be completely wrong and it could be a 3/5 split, but I think that 4/4 is more likely. So with this fair bit of theorycrafting, I can say that this adventurer will likely be a non-magic based class.
I resist the idea that it could be an engineer type class purely because for that kind of class to work it besically has to A) infringe upon asuran racial abilities like golomancy, use some kind of weapon not yet shown (this is not the case) or use magical weapons to be a summoning class (making little machines and the like), which goes against my 4/4 split theory. or C) would besically be required to be able to put together siege weapons, which goes against Anet philosophy and ISN"T GOING TO HAPPEN...........and how, exactly would an engineer use a gun? by making it bigger temporarily through modifications i guess but thats kind of a shallow class if thats all they had.
I resist the idea of an "alchemist" mentioned by Venomzer0 and DerykCH or any other magic sounding class because of my 4/4 split theory, unless they somehow made a contrasting class to the guardian, who uses armor to supplyment his spellcasting so he can better protect he team mates. I can imagine, for instance, a class that uses magic to supplyment his weapons, much like ritualist weapon spells, but less magical feeling than ritualist spirit weapons. posibly transmuting the weapon into a upgraded version of that weapon.
So...what kind of (mostly) non-magical adventurer class that uses a rifle can you imagine? If I were to make my wildest guess, I think it would be a class that uses guns in such a way as to deal penetrating damage (bullets passing through enemies) as a different way of doing AoE, and also uses some of the melee weapons, likely in a way to complemet its ranged abilities, such as using daggers or a sword to rush through enemies dealing damage to each one. Pistols could be used to rapid fire. well, you get the picture.
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
it is pretty obvious that the Dual wielding pistols is going to be part of the new assassin like profession, as well as the ability to use rifles. you have to remember there is no melee only professions in GW2.
I use the word engineer because it was used by rytlock brimstone in the new novel jokingly to make fun of some other "group" in the game, and it wasnt done to describe a particular race but made it sound more like a profession or "job".
Considering that this is 250 years in the future and technology has been upgraded leaps and bounds its not a stretch to think there would be a profession to utilize it.
Also the asura golem thing is a race skill and just because the asura are into using magic as a science doesnt mean it would restrict a profession to using race traits of the asura (or the charr for that matter)
I think your restricting your imagination, there are plenty of options for a engineer type class that would not break the game. Such as bombs or traps. The ranger already sets some sorts of traps, and having another profession use them wouldnt hurt. And with bombs there are plenty of routes you could go.
Also its unfair to say that neither the warrior, ranger or assasin have any magic. Warriors are often associated with balthazzar as he is the god of war, rangers are followers of melandru and assasins Im not quite sure of, but in gw1 they could teleport so they gotta have some sort of magic. So having an engineer class that uses magic to some extent isnt implossible.
Thats for the humans anyway, Im sure the other races have their explanations.
Also you already got your ritualist like class, its the gaurdian (weapon spells ect..although no spirits)
I beleive they said that a class that has yet to be revealed would have allot more environmental weapon usage than the other professions, if thats true then placing turrets that you can man is plausible. I dont see how this clashes with Anet philosophy, if they can integrate it and it works and is fun then they would put it in.
the following is a very random bunch of letters meant to seam meaningful...

{Mod edit - text was breaking page} mightusemagictogettherebladeswheretheyneedtobebutthatsaboutit
I would tend to agree with you on the environmental weapons thing except for the fact that the classes will most certainly have lots of environmental weapon skills we haven't seen yet.
edit: suffer the pain of having to read my useless gibberish...or not...
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
I agree with your breakdown of the 4/4 split, but that doesn't eliminate 'engineer'. What most people on these boards are talking about when they say engineer, is really a sapper--which according to some incorrect people, are a type of combat engineer (but a real engineer will tell you otherwise). So I can see GW2 having a profession that focuses on placing land-mines, CC traps/obstacles/barricades (not turrets however) that also uses pistols, rifles, maces, axe, and warhammer. And if you were to read up on sappers, you would see that they excel in improvised armaments made from the surroundings so no magic summoning to facilitate the class. In in terms of landmines, we could give the benefit of the doubt and say that it uses the same mechanic as the ranger/warrior's never ending supply of arrows.
edit: as an aside, I still don't like the sapper as the name/concept for the "guns but not bows" class, I still prefer 'tactician'.
I still think that the pistol class will be some kind of musketeer or swashbuckler. We seen some art that looks rather swashie and I think it is more likely than the sapper, they already have the ranger as a class for traps.
I will bet money that the swashbuckler is the assassin like profession with a pirate themed armor. We know from there interviews that all professions will have a viable ranged option. the new assassin profession will probably be a mixture of the old assassin ranger builds. we also know that anet will be designing lots of armor with different themes and flavors.
many of the professions have trap like mechanics too, the mechanics existing doesn't exclude the idea of an engineer like profession. With all the mechanics listed so far the battlefied will be a regular minefield which will have to be carefully navigated through.
Oh Grimm... you've really disappointed me with this response.
Oderint, dum metuant.
Well, Queen Jennah flat out says she is a mesmer, and a mesmer was mentioned by profession in the first novel as well. So we know, beyond doubt, that Mesmers show up in GW2. If it was not obvious from the very start, it is now.
We also have seen rogue type characters. I think it is safe to assume there will be an assassin type character, but one that focuses on quick movement and hitting, as Caithe called it (perhaps too often) "weak points."
We know there will not be a chronomancer. We know that.
As far as I can tell, anything else about engineers or alchemists is just speculation without a solid foundation.
Edit:
There will not be themed classes. Every class is defined by its abilities, not what sort of person uses it. Note that guardians are not paladins. They do not serve some higher order, necessarily. Rangers are not necessarily primarily archers, or trackers. Warriors are not necessarily primarily ruthless or violent.
So there will not be a pirate-themed assassin. I would even come close to betting that it would be called rogue (or something else) and not assassin, as we are not in Cantha.
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it." Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
WTF? No subscription fee?
just because they followed those gods doesnt mean they used magic (a gods blessing etc. is the gods themselves using magic), completely with you on the whole the non magic classes use minor amounts of magic thing tho, but were getting into a more lore sort of territory here.
as such the gods dont realy explain anything when it comes to magic nor would you need to use them to explain why a class uses magic. also dont see the need to explain why a warrior would use magic... i mean cmon if you have the capability your not just gonna throw it out... as far as the way the world works has been explained there is no reason for any of the classes to be attributed with not being able to use magic (rangers in gw1 used lots of nature magics, healing their pets etc).
