I wasn't refering to the assassin being pirate themed. We know there will be different themed armor sets. So for a hypothetical example leather armor could have armor that looks like priate clothes. so anyone that wears leather could make themselves look like a pirate. far as I know there could be no pirate themed armor.  the point is that armor will be used to help us difine our character background personally with what they wear. there is no reason to have any profession built around a certain theme of clothing. think of clothes being used in a more roleplaying like fashion.

The assassin like profession will be more broad, he won't just fit like a rogue or ninja kind of role. Think of making your profession feel personal. say for example you like the asassin/ ninja like role and look. I imagine you can put in melee weapons that make it play like that and then find some armor that is wrapped clothing, a helm that looks like a mask, and dye them both black.

take plate armor for example, you could make the warrior or guardian look like a barbarian, magic armored knight, roman like knight, european like night etc. If people would like to be a barbarian in this game pick the warrior profession and get some barbarian themed armor.

This is why they call them professions, because it provides the skills. the armor is what makes you feel like a certain class from any game by the way the look. Most classes are just lore flavor with similar kind of abilities and a completely different look.

Think of it like a city of heroes character creator with a fantasy/ middle ages twist. except you don't get all the customization at the beginning. you have to go around and find the gear you want like a scavenger hunt.

considering there is an entire fleet of undead corsairs in the ocean of tyria Im sure they will have plenty of oportunities for us to have pirate like gear :D

Shooting a bullet through water will slow it down... but you didn't alter time in anyway. Maybe in some new MMO in the future BASED on time we will see this type of gameplay.

There is a reason the OP came with this particular profession. It was one of the professions in the cancelled Chapter 4. So it is very much possible to have a time controlling profession in Guild Wars! I have no idea how it fits with the lore. And slowing down an object is actually altering time! You slow down time and thus everything moves much more slowly! You can either stop time (in which case everything freezes) or slow down time!

But yeah we will not be seeing the Chronomancer profession in GW2 at launch. Maybe....we might get it in an xpac. I REALLLY want to see the Hub of Time!

    Temporal Mages?

No thanks. Not in a fantasy MMO, and even though GW2 has more advanced tech level it would not yet be considered a scifi mmo. To me anything dealing with Temporal Mechanics is classically and strictly Science Fiction. I sure hope this isn't one of the classes.

If GW2 has crossed the boundry into Sci Fi, then I am no longer interested in it.

How is time maniuplation scifi? Mages in world of warcraft do it all the time and that's about as advanced as gw2 will be.

Anyway, I really love the "Tactician" idea, it leaves it quite open, I'm imagining the kind of class that rarely directly participates in battles, but with good battlefield awareness can be useful at balance-tipping points in the battle with precise abilities and area control.

It sounds a bit like a technological cross between a Necromancer and a Mesmer, combined with long range I guess.

Either way I look forward to the next announcement, as the possible playstyles are narrowed down, the last unknown class will become more apparent...

If you realy wanted to think about it a chornomancer could fit easily, I mean hell they have that shroud ability with necros that when near death they turn into a spectral from and can move and blah blah, and if they live the rewind back and they are alive and moving again. That could be a basic example of time altering, just on a personal scale.

For an example of a support skill, they could have a bubble like the guardians reflect bubble, exept instead of reflecting every enemy attack is slowed in time, alowing a easy dodge (or a wall instead of a bubble). when projectiles move threw the barrior it could move slowly, or stuck in time. Nothing scifi about that and seemingly, with guild wars fantasy and lore, could be implemented and fit in PERFECTLY. But if say they could revert time and stuff and go forward/back well.. thats pushing some buttons i wont start to touch.

Anyway, another thing to think about.. the chronomancers were to be released with a race that is similar to the sylvari, which actualy started out (cant remember the original name) and then ended up being reworked into BEING the sylvari. and considering that the sylvari are linked in the 'dream' a future class coming from that could be easaly be sewn into the lore.

PS: When i mentiond the assassin arguement i was not using semantics, i was stating there wont be an exact assassin. The problem with it is people still belive fully that the assassin will be returning in guild wars 2, and commonly refering to that. (in otherwords the returns of the actual assassin that was in Factions) So yeah, seeing things like that do get me a little tempermental, judgeing that we have basicly rulled the assassin out 100x over HERE and on Guild wars 2 guru.

I doubt they would include a profession like the chloromancer, considering the new professions from the campaigns after  prophecies are fairly lore based, there is no point in including a profession in gw2 that had its campaign canceled.

The 4th campaign never happened in the GW2 time table, so any professions they would take from it wouldnt fit in with the world's lore.

    ****!  I totally missed that.

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.

Utopia was cancelled and a lot of the features were adopted into GWEN and GW2. That continent may be included in Guild Wars 2 and with it, they may introduce the chronomancer. Of course, this will definitely be an expansion if it ever happens.

It was obvious which the first 6 classes would be - the 6 core professions from the original game - ele, war, necro, ranger, mesmer and monk. Then they said there will be no dedicated healer but there will be class to appease the monk fanboys. So everybody knew about the first 6 classes.

However, the last two are a bit of a mystery. Assassin/Ritualist/Dervish/Paragon are out of the question as Cantha and Elona are not included.

I don't think there will be a rogue class. This will mean that when they reintroduce Cantha it will be very similar to the Assassin class maybe! Plus the original game didn't have a rogue class and it did just fine.

I am pretty sure they will reintroduce the old classes - Dervish/Paragon/Assas/ Rit once they release Cantha and Elona. I can't imagine them not reintroducing these continents as they spent so much on building them up and the lore.

Have you completely missed the first few comments on this thread?

It is confirmed that the chronomancer will not be in GW2.

    ...Initially at least.

Who knows what happens when they release expansions or new campigns?

I wish they could give us a date for the next revelations soon...

the content that they droped into GWEN and GW2 was almost purely asthetic; building designs and some mobs. None of the lore from Utopia was braught into GWEN. So it doesnt make sence to drop it in GW2 or bring in one of its professions, which are again, lore based.

Have you completely missed the part where I say it is definitely gonna be in a future expansion if it ever happens? This rules out the idea it will be there at launch.

Nothing was revealed about the lore of Utopia so we can never know. However, they did mention that a lot of features served as the foundation for some of the things in Guild Wars 2 and entire zones were moved to GWEN.

At the time there were rumours that the new chapter will bring persistant zones and swimming/jumping to GW. I guess these might hold a grain of truth to it as ArenaNet are trying to get the best out of instances and persistant zones for GW2.

I think the problem with your joke is most people's sarcasm detection is so minute.  Nothing worth clocking yourself in the face over.
