    Looks pretty bland.  Even typical FPSes that revolve around 1-shot kill headshots are a bit shaky, let alone F2P games trying to pass themselves off as MMOs.

    Certainly nothing I would play over a AAA multiplayer FPS, or Planetside.

    I found this game has better hitboxes than Black Ops or MW 2. Only thing it lacks is graphics.

    It is to a MMO, it is classified as it no matter what you think. I know its not your standard walk around and talk MMO, but sites that cover ALL styles of MMOs have it on there lists.

    If yes, its an mmo, if no, then no its not.

    Yes all players are in main server like u would see in a MMORPG. Click your server and you can interact with other players while u look at the shop or go into a sub server and play.

     Good ol' mmohut youtube reviews :D Pretty sure you mentioned not having the best PC, and it looks like it should have some lower system requirements atleast.

    I dont have the best pc, but I can run any new game at medium settings, just when Im recording its hard to record at low sometimes because of my single core cpu. But yeah ill check that out.

    By that logic Laughing, there's a couple mods for Mount&Blade called Persistent World and Persistent Fantasy World that should make the game classified as an MMO.

    Persistent world is not an MMO. It's a persistent world

     

    MMO is an MMO by being an MMO, not by staying persistent. The persistence is just a perk to the well made one's.

     

    A game that doesn't see more than thirtysix people together at any given moment is not an MMO. A game that has a chat lobby is not an MMO. Stop trying to redefine the word.

     

    To date the only two games that were actually MMOFPS games is Planetside and Battleground Europe. The only other game to come close to the MMOFPS title is MAG for both persistence and scale. Of the two real MMOFPS games, Planetside was by far my favorite.

    Just throwing my opinion into this thread.

    No offense to the op, but to me that looks like complete arcade crap which I have no interest in... Planetside on the other hand offered me the oppoturnity of flying dropships etc. which I preferred far more.

    The only two fps games which work for me are Project Reality & Armed Assault 2 + ACE, then on the other hand neither has anything to do with MMO genre and they try to reach realism without forgetting gameplay.

    I can remember playing something like gunz (spellcheck?) during my teens, but I am glad those years are well beihnd us now.

    You are right to have your opinion, and I value it my lad. Some people may not like it because its looks, but the gameplay is there. Halo is my fav FPS by far but its not anywhere close to F2P or a MMO for that matter.

    And yet it fails to live up to the definition of the word as well. You can claim that since all the persistent data is contained on a single server that it somehow makes it an MMO. But as pointed out above, you're admitting plenty more games into the category if you're going to try and claim that game as such.

     

    Which is to the point of why I stick with the inital permise of the name.

    Planetside, Battlefield Europe, and MAG are the only three titles where sizable amounts of players can actually interact in ways other than shopping and chatting together (read - actually play the game) and have a persistence in the game world, not just character/player data.

    You note a definition of MMORPG which does not make sense to post on a MMOFPS forum post. And no the last what ever FPS you list does not have a persistant chat room where players can interact all at once. Thus not a MMO. There is a fine line, each sub catagory has its own stipulations. Call Of Duty or Halo or Battlefield unless Play 4 Free will never be a MMO because theres no chatroom filled with all the players online in that server.... a better word lobby.

    It's a freaking lobby. It's not the game. You wanna know what the lobby is for the games I listed? It's forums and their webiste counterparts. You can chat and have all the same data available on a web portal dedictaed for Battlefield 2 as you see  in that 'lobby' of Blackout. Just because you don't have to boot up the game to acheive your exact same goals doesn't differentiate what it'f fundamental pieces and implementation is.

     

    And again if you wish to define it that way then we'd have to add all Battlenet games and their kin into the list as they all have massive lobbies that under the context you pose should count as 'persistent worlds'.

    Dude you are acting like this is a religion. Its a set definition with many sub catagories. A MMO is a persistant world in a GAME not a forum. What cant you read with that line? I dont understand why you are getting mad about the fact I called a game thats classified by its developers, many sites, and its people as a MMO. Do you hear people going around saying CoD is a MMO? No. What about Starcraft? No. Because they are not.

     But anyways, people need to take the litteral meaning of that term a little less serious, there are many many types of games attached to ALL genre's now, and not all are a direct definition of whatever genre they most closely resemble anymore.

     As for MMO, as long as there is no shortage of ways for massive ammounts of people to play together, what more do you need? Doesn't matter if there are 1million people surrounding you or 12, you aren't going to see and interact with them all anyways, so other than the one's you do interact with the rest might as well not exist at all in that momment in time.

     It boils down to the same thing either way, weither it's lobby or persistent world, there are still the same oppertunities to play with a massive ammount of all different people at any given time.

Stating that since the very same functions aren't presented when a person boots up a client, thet those part aren't fulfilling the very same functions, and aren't in fact thetered to the central servers as unique parts of the game itself. That remark is wrong, no cleaner way to put it.

     

    As I said. What you keep talking About is a game lobby, not the game istelf. The web portal for Battlefield 2 presents the very same data, statistics, and even contains a forum and chat exclusively for players of Battlefield 2, all that acts as a lobby for the game. Yet since it's not presented when the game boots up, the persistence of that data that revolves solely around the game means nothing, where the very same data when presented to you before playing the game each time means it suddenly becomes more important?

     

    That right there is players and developers nitpicking and corrupting language and values to do nothing more than marketing and lying.

     

    I actually do hear people call CoD and SC2 MMOs. And I think they have equal or more valid reasoning at times than those that hawk the 'MMOFPS' titles about.

     

    And just like you said. A game is not a forum. And as I state in equal turn, a game is not a lobby. You chat on both, they are both persistent, they both apply to the same topics and achieve the same goals, but neither are the game itself.

     

    Hell, a forum is more of a persistent world than a lobby any ways. Especially since game lobbies can be created and destroyed at whim on the server due to player load, past data is not presented on entry to the game, and old data is removed much more quickly for the clients and logs.

     

     

    Also to note, your assertion that MMORPG does not make sense when regarding MMOFPS is in general, a false statement.

     

    The theme of a game world, nor the way you interact with the game world, defines an RPG. One of the major two tenets of RPGs and MMORPGs is player progression and the concept of roles and themes.

     

    Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights, Baulder's Gate. All RPGs, but an amazingly large variance in gameplay. 

     

    Planetside? It's got nonlinear player progression, it is in fact an MMORPG as much as it's an MMOFPS. 

     

    Both of which Blackout even has. You level in ranks, earn points, and buy equipment to design and define your character that you play. You differentiate your class based on class of weapons and equipment. It is in fact as much of an RPg as it is an FPS.

     

    You saying MMORPG is meaningless is in fact false because the game is more RPG than it is MMO in the first place.

    MMO - Massively Multiplayer Online.

    Playing with 12, 32, or even 64 people isn't "Massive" in my opinion. Persistent world or not, you put hundreds of people together then you have a MMO... Not the miniscule amount of people you claim to be a MMO.

    MMO is an MMO by being an MMO, not by staying persistent. The persistence is just a perk to the well made one's.

     

    A game that doesn't see more than thirtysix people together at any given moment is not an MMO. A game that has a chat lobby is not an MMO. Stop trying to redefine the word.

     

    To date the only two games that were actually MMOFPS games is Planetside and Battleground Europe. The only other game to come close to the MMOFPS title is MAG for both persistence and scale. Of the two real MMOFPS games, Planetside was by far my favorite.

    A massively multiplayer online game (also called MMO and MMOG) is a multiplayer video game which is capable of supporting hundreds or thousands of players simultaneously. By necessity, they are played on the Internet, and feature at least one persistent world.

     

    Im not redefining the word. The word is defined right there. You may not call games like Project Blackout a MMO, but they are by definition.

    A loby is not a world.  To be a "world" your avatar must exisist in this state in the same state it appears in the gameplay content.

    IE : Diablo 2 NOT an MMO

    World of Warcraft MMO

    The persistant part is in the text book definition of the term, the sum of the words does not a definition make.

    We are way off topic. The matter of it being called  a MMOFPS comes from developers and websites that clasify it as that. What ive said to the guy above and why im going to bed is the fact he cant change crap. Its a MMOFPS and his opinions toward that are meaningless. In my opinion I think all games that support atleast 1,000 people on 1 server should be a MMO, but will the persistant world thing ever change? No, because its a catagory defined by developers that has sub catagories as well. Its a endless chain of arguement over opinion and not fact. The fact is you cannot change the fact that it is a MMOFPS like Crossfire, Genesis AD, or Firefly I think the name of the new one is.

     

    Stop argueing. Its pointless. Get back on subject.

    Gah I hate it when people provide no rational argument and then turn around and tell me I'm wrong. :p

     

    I'm serious about this because it's murder of syntax. It's not about controlling or drastically changing the issue. I jump into these things because I see people that are spreading patently false information.

     

    So to return your insult in kind; I hope your sleep helps you get your neurons flowing so you can read the examples, the actual arguments, and the resulting facts so you can get over your denial.

     

    EDIT: AS an aside, my personal opinion on best MMOFPS firmly stands with Planetside for many reasons, and as such I'm looking forward to Planetside Next as the only title to perceivably replace it with equal depth of play, persistence, scale, tactical freedom and value, and breadth of combat options.

      That doesn't mean there aren't others besides those 12, 32, or 64 people though. There is no humanly way possible to play with every single person connected to what you all consider a true MMO, so seriously what's the difference. They both can have 100's of thousands connected to the game, and you'll still be able to interact with the same ammount either way.

     lol anyways, this sort of debate has been going on for years, no point arguing it in an unrelated thread, so i'll just agree to disagree now.
