i have seen some kinda threads about mounts in Guru, but i still want to know how you think about this issue
Actually i'm a proponent of mounts, mounts in MMO looks cool and amazing. and it can also somehow boost speed.
Anet avouch that they build a game for players. although not all ppl want to see mounts in GW2, still a lot of ppl hope have mounts in GW2. mounts not only bring speed but many joys, because we cannot ride these mounts in real world, it make MMO fantasic. DON'T be sick of other MMO likes wow, GW2 should be built unique by creating sth did appear in other MMO,but not removing elites of MMO. those ppl who don't like mounts just don't try to get mounts and use their precious teleport, that's all.
"You couldn't have them in towns, so then people wouldn't be sitting next to storage on their mounts. But you can ride you're mount outside of town, and that doesn't look weird." i am pretty agree with it
by the way, whether mounts should be in PvP,or should mounts be aggressive, they r another issues

Wow that post took a lot longer to read than it should have.
As for the question, I don't believe GW2 should have mounts because it doesn't need mounts. Just seems like a waste of time figuring out what kind of mount each race could have (what's a Char or an Asura gonna ride?), when there's a perfectly viable fast travel system in place and the people who say that teleporting will take away from the exploration just don't understand that you'll need to explore in order to teleport. If ArenaNet ends up caving in, to the demands of the mount-lovers, then I wouldn't mind if they make mounts only accessible in the item store/cash shop. Not as if going without a mount, in GW2, will be gamebreaking.
+1 i agree
I believe Anet also said that the teleportation travel system uses very little amount of money, and as you can see in game videos, the travel distinations only use 2 digit numbers.
Mounts are annoying because it means travel speed is otherwise slow (Why else would you have the need to use one?). Fast travel or teleports make these useless anyway. Furthermore, mounts are not cool.
So no.
I'd rather have them waste their manhours on social networking apps and mobile apps. And I don't care about those either.
That's how I feel about mounts.

Why would you even need mounts when you can just warp anywhere you want to go?
I would love mounts. Mounts are fluff. I don't care if I move at normal running speed, I enjoy having something like that. I'd like mounts from pvp, from pve, and from the shop.
Yes!
It dont even exist horses in tyria, and I have yet to heard about some kind of animal that can be mounted (and yet prove it useful, because mounting cows dont count..) in the GW universe xD
Other than that, this was already discussed

dragons fit better than horses as mounts in GW/GW2 for some reason i feel that way...
Dragon are enemy in GW/GW2
~The only opinion that matters is your own.Everything else is just advice,~
yupp, but theres always a way to tame dragon pups and use as mounts as they grow up
considering the only dragons we see in the games are the most overpowered and most deadly creatures, and my memories of trying to steal one of Glints baby eggs in prophacies....The idea of dragon mounts is easier said than done.
I think with how they are designing the game mounts would get in the way.
the world is made to be very large, but very well detailed. The purpose of exploration is not to see everything quickly, but to take in the details. And if we're speeding around on a mount we're bound to miss some of those details; or just not be as impressed if we're speeding by one monument after another.
Also the teleportation system only works if you have been to the location before hand, so that exploration element is still there.
mounts are cool though, fyI, but like the developers have stated, it just doesnt go with the game they are developing.
I agree that with the fast travel system in place that mounts are more or less uselss. That being said, it would be neat if there were some events created where mounts were needed for combat, or something along those lines.
I am proud of that anet wants to do his mmo as realistic as possible because it accentuates that the game is as fantastic as possible but what not the mounts contribute that this realism is nearer to the reality, what would belong to an adventurous hero without his dear mount
And what is so realistic about a Charr that prefers to run on all fours, having to ride on the back of some lesser being? Or an Asura with their battle suit riding on something less technologically advanced? The only way a mounting system would work in this game is if it's some kind of personal light aircraft (as seen in some concept art), however I personally don't find an aircraft appearing out of thin air, as I click the [Mount Hotkey] more realistic, than not having mounts at all.
Mounts work in other MMOs but I don't see them working so well in GW2, with all the races at different stages of technological advancements (I just can't picture a Sylvari or Norn in a personal light aircraft). And that's without taking into account the waypoints that I mentioned earlier.
I am kind of diveded here.
On one hand is it rather cool if you do mounted combat right. Let warriors and guardians use lance and change the players skills to mounted skills while he is on it, that could make some really great PvP.
The only thing I really liked about "Kingdom of heaven" was when the knights charge into battle, something simlar in PvP would be awesome. Crappy movie otherwise BTW.
On the other hand do mounts have some bad things as well. The gaming world gets smaller, particularly with flying mounts. And to add a mount you can't fight from or that more or less just is a speed buff sucks.
So I am not sure.
But I would like a pack animal. You know a mule or donkey that follows you like a pet where you have a lot of extra slots to put all your junk.
How about an Asura with a collar?
You can still do something similar. Just get a bunch of Norns together and transform into your respective animal (I'll be going wolf) then charge them. Although it will more than likely turn into the battle from the Chronicles of Narnia than from Kingdom of Heaven, but it'll still be exciting and fun as hell. ^_^
Does anyone know if Char runs faster then human and the other races? It could be really fun in pvp if they tries to flee.. I'm gonna catch you! xD
No they do not run any faster than any other race.
There are two running speeds in GW2. When your weapons are out and ready you run slower than when your weapons are put away. Char runs on 2 legs when his/hers weapons are out and on all fours when they are put away.
I know certain professions or builds that used to make money hands over fist by grouping up players and have them stay at the gate outside of a town and then running to the next waypoint. Used to have a blast doing that and avoid all the critters on the way there.

there should be public travel mounts like taxi carriage that is used like a bus. You got stations all over tyria in areas which are not held by centaurs (for example). I don't like seeing people running around on their bears, horses, giant birds or something..

The game already has something better than a taxi cab... it's called waypoints. Look it up. Seriously, what would people rather do; instantly port to a waypoint they've previously traveled to or go to a station, take a taxi/airship, go make a sandwich and wait out the 1-15 min journey? I know which option I would go for and it doesn't involve getting off my ass to make a sandwich, or alt-Tabbing to firefox like I'm doing right now as I'm travelling in LOTRO.
All mmorpgs should have some kind of personal transport, either horses, bikes, cars, vrooms, skateboars wathever..depending on the setting, its cool, its rpgish, it promotes e-peen for showing off and its a collectors item also.
With GW2 waypoints there is NO NEED for mounts for travel ! End of discussion.
But with GW2 weaponsystem there is no reason that Mounts couldn't be implemented, making really awesome combat !
So i think Mounts will come in an expansion made for combat , and not making travel faster!
I agree that because of the instant map travel, there would be no need for a mount. The only time you travel on foot is through cities and while exploring. But if you are exploring you will be frequently fighting, and I wouldn't want a game that allows me to run past all of that content just to explore and discover waypoints.
Also, asura have the closest thing to mounts, golems. I like that there is only one race with this mount-like capability. This gives asura a particular perk and individuality to attract more people to the race. Charr run on all fours, so that would be their perk.
Not only is it unnecessary to have mounts in this game, it would hurt the game.
