I already said I want names of anyone she beats in pvp.

She calls me to tell me that she wants to try being a gamer because she's got the free time and she wants to learn what her sons are talking about.

On a side note she started texting last month.....

Lucky you. My mom has trouble with the DVR. Id hate trying to explain an MMO to her.

Yep she uses her blackberry torch and texts with her fingers.  However, she IS texting at least.

My mother has a facebook account that she keeps forgetting how to log into. Texting she's a whiz at (even if brevity isn't her forté). Last year she wanted a blog, but I told her she couldn't have one until she got to grips with Facebook.

To be honest, I'd much rather she took an interest in gaming, it's at least more social than sitting in a recliner watching soaps and CSI reruns all day long...

Hope your mother enjoys herself, kudos to her for giving it a whirl.

My dad and I have been computer gaming since the Commodore 64.  We've kept up with things all this time.  He's now 55 years old and we still play MMOs together after discovering EQ1 in 2000.  We're both gearing up for the headstart in Rift on Thursday in fact.

Hell, a guild that my ex-wife and I belonged to at one point in EQ1 was ran by a couple in their late 70's.  Hard to believe?  Yes.  Fact?  Yes. =)

Average gamer age is like 35 so i dunno what your suprised about.

I have a friend that retired 3 years ago from the post office that stil plays pen and paper D and D and plays LOTRO and wow constantly.

    Really not a big deal.

TBH, many of my friends have had stay at home mothers who decided to take up gaming.  It's relaxing and they stay at home.  They can do chores and remain logged in, play, and have down time.  A few of those were EXCELLENT guild leaders because they were ALWAYS on to coordinate things.  I plan on being that 90 y/o dirty old man.  Couse that'd mean the wife would HAVE to go first... what are the chances of that happening :-P  Nagging me just keeps her alive :-)

I don't think I'd want my mom playing any online game with me. She already tortures me and my wife with YouTube videos whenever she visits and tries to get me to join all these Facebook pages.

I'm not sure I'd want my wife playing either. I think she'd be more obsessive than I am when it comes to playing games. :-)

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Yeah, It would be weird if my mother was playing an MMO as well.

A little to close to comfort..

That's brilliant, hope she enjoys it! :)

You're never too old for games - for example, the oldest Ultima Online player recently turned 83.

Its actually a pretty well known fact that the average gamer is 35.  With time it will most likely get older. People are living longer and are being exposed to technology more. Imagine when all the youth of today ae the really old people, everyones gonna be connected except the amish.

My mom at 60 has a hard time navigating the internet and operating her new laptop. She just received a cell phone and aside from dialing out and receiving calls she doesn't use it for anything else. I can't image having to explain to her how to play video games. I would not have the patience to do so, but I'm happy to see that mature gamers come in all shapes, sizes, and age ranges.

    True.

A friend of mine has a father who played Lineage 2 with us and now plays LOTRO with us. I believe he is in his late 60's early 70's.
