I mostly want to hear that bad parts about Rift, but also tell me what it offers.
Anyone who can do this with an openmind would be great. You don't have to bash it, just tell me what it lacks and what it offers.
Thank you, and flamers keep out of this one please

Well for somebody who hate questing and hate fantasy setting with a grudge .
The game is suprisingly fun , everytime I log in I run to do a rift or some minor stupid fed ex quest before being drawn to another rift >.<
Addiction level , is quite high infact I push meself to take a break asap cause or else i end up caught up in leveling frenzy.
Just to fill in my points and see if the combo work .
Professions sadly are exactly like wow , but with a bonus that the stupid items you craft not only sells , but gives you more XP and rewards ..so infact I think you might level on crafting alone , that might be dangerous since you might miss some important quest hub .
PvE is same as any other mmo , a bit more like EQ toughness at start maybe it will change once you hit the higher levels.
or have a optimal build , but soloing 3 is quit harsh for a none healing class ... (dont jump onto the cleric , since damage is lower . just play what you want to play , and optimise your build around the problems you have)
PvP sorry you need to ask others , since I don´t pvp anymore , don´t have the incentive to pvp either .
Anything new about RIFT ? well RIFTS itself parcitipation is like getting free points for gear , even for later level .
Good parcitipation especially in groups rewards definetly the time and effort , infact its too rewarding but I guess thats done for a reason cause of headstart establishing a core of players each server .
The worst part is that while new this game , it feels like a established MMORPG with people not taking a break to chat .
Maybe its cause of headstart , but don´t find too many people willing to talk for too long .
Thats basically about it . love it flame me hate it , now you got your objective review .
Pi*1337/100 = 42
I thought I'd throw together a quick reply before I roll off to bed. I have played since beta five which is two short closed beta events, open beta week and the first two days of headstart. I hope this puts my feelings into perspective.
Is it fun for you?
Short answer is yes. The questing is not revolutionary but I did not expect it to be. I was pleasantly surprised by the Rifts and public questing and the class system feels free and interesting.
Is it addicting?
Yes, I find myself just wanting to 'do one more Rift' or 'just finish that quest'. Of course all 'new' games can be addictive, new is interesting. Whether or not the features are still addictive after weeks, months, time will tell.
What are the professions like?
The base archetypes are the usual, it is what you do with them that makes it different. Each class has a number of souls, think of them like the trees in WoW. You can have any three equipped at a time and they all have passive and active skills within them that you can allocate points to. With a chop and change of your souls you can essentially turn your cleric completely from a healer bot into a tanking paladin or your rogue from a sneaky theif into a ranger wielding a longbow or rifle. The good point is that although you have to work to acquire the souls, it is not an arduous process and if you find that your build is not working how you would like or that a specific soul does not suit you, you can change it out. Easy.
What is the PvE like?
Like I mentioned above, questing is quite linear, on the whole the NPC texts too are rather standard. There are some story quests and instanced dungeons that have more interesting background though. The real gem for me is Rifts, they break up the tedium and have their own forms of rewards, a currency you can use to buy items. Each Rift has a score board and the better you perform (ie contribute in any number of ways) the better your reward. Each Rift feels like a little PVE competition to beat everyone else into the ground and top that leaderboard. At least for me. As a healing cleric, I don't struggle with this either. Other classes will have a tougher time though, warrior can be hard.
What is the PvP like?
I'm afraid I deplore PVP so I can't tell you anything about this, I'm sure there will be plenty of people popping by however who can.
Does anything about Rift standout as different?
I think I have covered this already above.
I hope this helps.
RIFT is a well designed and developed game that takes much of what came before it and polished it up. It has high production values and some unique twists are added. The main ones are:
RIFTS which are similar to the old Public Quests from WAR. The good development with these is that they are random and spawn all over the place. They can also spawn small invasion groups which will attack towns. The bad side is that the RIFTS are really very similar to each other after awhile. Where WAR PQs have a wide range of what would happen.. RIFTS become very predicatable. There are "Raid Rifts" at endgame.. but not many.
SOUL SYSTEM- I really enjoyed the class system of RIFT which lets you coose an archetype (mage, cleric, rogue, warrior). From that point on you may freely mix any souls for that archetype in whatever manner you like. The only restriction is that you can only have 3 souls equipped at a time and you can save up to 4 roles (specs). This gives each character a wide range of choices for playstyle and you dont ever have to re-roll because you want to change your spec. The downside is that they made it so you can switch roles at a touch of a button with the only restriction being that you cannot be in combat. Thus you can be a Pyromancer for one fight, a Chloromancer(healer) for the next, and then a dominator (CC) for a third. They have taken this to a too far extreme. When everyone can do everything at a touch of a button... no one is special. This is supposed to be an RPG but it ends up feeling like I am roleplaying a swiss army knife.
DYNAMIC CONTENT- The game will randomly spawn major zonewide invasions which are quite fun. dozens of RIFTS will open up at once.. boss mobs will pop into the world.. and everyone will be give a quest such as "Defend XXX outpost". The only downside is that they can get repetative and can actually be annoying if you are trying to finish up a quest chain and one of these things pop because it will take a bit to clear it out.
Other that the above.. I found 2 main negatives which ultimately made me not order.
The PvP servers are focused on Warfronts... similar to WoW battlegrounds where I was looking for a more developed OpenWorld conquest type system. I found their PvP to be pointless and focused on e-sports. YMMV
The game is very linear and the word rather small. Once you have leveled a character.. any subsequent character will run 80%+ of the same stuff. There is only one starting area per side and the upper level zones are shared. After leveling 3 characters into their 30s in the open beta I decided I didn't want to do another. Perhaps it's my fault and I should not have played as much pre-launch...
So.. I would say RIFT is a good game with high production values.. but for me it just fell short in some areas that I personally value.

The problem with getting gamer's opinions on new games is they have to be on one extreme side or the other. The game is either horrible or the greatest mmo ever. Is there ever a middle ground? Can a game be just ok. I've played and enjoyed games that got terrible reviews by gamers on this site, while having to scratch my head at some of the games that got glowing reviews. Only thing to do is bite the bullet and get the game to see for yourself, or wait for a trial, imo.
haha you will never get an unbiased opinion.
I like it. its fun.
The problem is that it feels like a established MMO , thats the problem with this game .
So its good , I can see the flaws or pinpoint it out , but its the same flaw any current MMO has .
The community itself , half seems to be wow kids , loving this game or hating it .
That they are willing to pay for a game just to bash it in game , puts the nintendo war at a all time idiocy .
So really play experience might vary per server is definetly a problem .
But ok anything really really new ... that i say OH MY GOD ..
Well truth is , no , I tought Earthrise was spectaculare in design , just there execution and target group was wrong .
But there design philosphy gave me like woot this is well tought off .
But people who know what they are getting into , for them this game will be entertaining .
Can it keep people hooked , only time can tell , for example if Blizzard give tommorow a mega epic BOA if you subscripe next month , tons of the ex wow kids runs back to there wow .
But people are forgetting in the end its your fun , that matters . not if you hate or love the game .
IF you are not having fun , then stop playing .... and many people say WTF you can´t stop playing a game .
But as long you get your 20 hours entertainement from it , then its money well spent , 20 hours time your hour salary .
Is how much ?
Is it fun for you? No. Too linear and is like other games before it - a grind for gear game.
Is it addicting? No
What are the professions like? If you have played WoW you'll notice a lot of the same mechanics in this area. It really is not all the different...just different names.
What is the PvE like? Have you played any theme park MMO's in the last 10 year...then this is no different. Like Aion, there is only two starter zones(both instanced, so runing alts means you'll do the same quest repeatedly). One difference is the Rift invasions. People will tell you they are dynamic. They aren't. They always spawn in the same areas and almost like clock-work. The same number of MOB's as well. They never change. Once you have done a couple of dozen they become more of an anooyance than anything else. They can be fun and exciting at first but then grow old fast.
What is the PvP like? Warfronts - think WoW BG's only way more limited in scope. Youll not find an Altrec Valley or a Wintergrasp here. Think arenas only a little bigger. Open world PvP on the PvP servers is more of a gankfest - no real chance to take and control territory. The one zone that does provide some kind of territorial control via Ancient Wardstones is interesting in concept but implmentation is not so good. Take a decent size group of players to coordinate together to achieve the goal of finding and controlling the Ancient Wardstones - good luck with that.
Does anything about Rift standout as different? Not really. It is just a rehash of previous games. Not that that is a bad thing, but it really doesn't bring anything new to the table. It is pretty to look at from time to time, but the game play has a serious been there, done that aspect to it. If you were looking for something truly different..you are looking at the wrong game. End game is raids, and PvP Warfronts and like other games like its all about gear.
If you are looking for a WoW alternative, this might be it, but do not expect this game to have the same amount of content as WoW or Aion...it isn't here. Game is new and it'll take some time before you'll have that level of content. If theme park games with limited game play is your thing - Rift might be fun for you.
HAHAH and teala you keep chaning your opnion , so fast its boring ....
One week its cool , next week it sucks , its very entertaining to see .
Nothing wrong , just making a observation about people , and your post applies same for WOW classic .
Its a perfect rehersal of a EQ fan back then , exactly the same . its too hysterical .
To take your points a step further....There is no way to objectively review a game because the criteria of which you're judging a game by is different as there are people that play it.
Do I think the game is fun. Absolutely. Now ask the next guy and he might say its the worse game he's ever played. What you want out of a game is unique to you. There is enough reviews/rants/fanboi love/haters dirt/ about this game to come up with a good Idea of what the game is like.
All I can say is I have not had this much fun in a game for about 6 yrs. I have been playing mmos since swg beta. 8+ years. It's highly addictive and has many avenues of advancement. With lots of opportunity to pvp even on a pve ruleset server. The world feels alive and dangerous. I never pay attention to the lore of game because I'm just not interested, but Rift has a unique cohesive world/lore and is very well put together with plenty of room to expand on. This game may not be what you are looking for but I know I have found a home for a long time. Hope you do too.
Best game since WoW and probably the most polished mmo to release in quite some time. Rift events are fun, dungeons are much nicer here and there are also rift raids you can do. I think it is a fun mmo for the mean time until we get The Old Repulbic and Guild Wars 2. So far the community seems pretty cooperative and fun to play with.
Hello Bribarianl,
The problem with Rift is that it is fun and it is addictive but only for those people who are willing to let go and just "go with it".
Have you ever been to Disney World?
Well, Disney World can be a really fun place. or...
One can look at it with a jaundiced eye and see a corporation trying to get as much money off of people in any way they can. It depends if you are glass half full or empty.
Personally I love Disney World. but I enjoy it for what it is and I allow myself to immerse myself in it like a kid would.
so, getting back to Rift.
If you come in with no expectations and just go with it, it can be very fun. But if you are looking for something specific, if you want it to be something or fill something in your gaming world it just won't do.
I think it's a blast. But I don't hold what would be its faults against it because it''s not trying to be anything other than it is.

I do not change my opinion. Show me where I have ever changed my opinion of the game?
Unfortunately BIAS is all you're going to get on these forums. I see you understand that by the title of your thread, so youre somewhat ahead of the game. Most the threads are going to be neutral or negative at this point. Alot of players who don't enjoy a game come here to vent, leaving all the players who enjoy not respresented here, because they are playing or don't feel the need to express their feelings. I am currently at work so I can't play and I have a small window to say, I LoVE RIFT. I havent had this much fun in a awhile. Spent 1k on a computer upgrade about 6 months early just to max graphical settings.
Old habits die hard, and when you can't go afk in the middle of a quest because a world wide and region wide event is taking place some players get angry and quit. It is definitely worth buying.
The good thing is that Rift isn't WoW. Not that WoW is or was bad just bored with it.
The bad thing is that Rift is full of WoW kiddies clogging up the chat channels and if you pay any attention to the chat channels you will get depressed with the large number of WoWholes running around.
Other than that it's fine.
Sorry but anyone who says that Aion has more content than RIFT hasn't really done their homework, and I'm a die hard Aion fan.
Is it fun for me? This question is subjective and therfore cannot be unbiased, but no it was not fun for me. The enitre time I was playing it felt too familiar to other games I have played and became repetetive and boring.
Is it addicting? See question 1.
What are the professions like? http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html This should help you figure out the question on your own. As for my own personal view, I only played a warrior and the combination I was using didn't feel very special to me.
What is the PvE like? Linear questing, if you don't like that you can do rifts, if you don't like that then you can grind mobs, if you don't like that then you can do PvP. I personally couldn't get into it mainly because i'm tired of the same ol' same ol' type of combat that is in Rift. The rifts only impressed me when I saw my first one open, after that they were all just one big zerg that broke up the monotany of the questing I was doing.
What is the PvP like? I did not do any PvP however I do know that there are Battlegrounds and, if you are interested in rolling on a PvP server, some sort of open world PvP.
Does anything about Rift standout as different? To me absolutely nothing stood out, it all felt like I had done it before.
Beta was fun. There are elements that will not be fun, as there are in any MMO (such as kill X mob quests). I think it'll be hard to level once areas are more empty, and I think there's a serious potential for classes to be shoehorned into specific roles as there are in any MMO. That said, I still enjoyed it.
I had a hard time walking away during beta. Part of that was knowing that I wouldn't have a chance to play once it went live (no money).
I assume you mean crafting professions. These are almost identical to WoW, but with 2 small improvements in that you can add small buffs to the recipe to make it slightly better and you can decon items readily to get the mats you need. This means it takes very, very little of any resource to hit the next resource.
As I say, a large number of the quests are the "kill X" variety. There's also a problem later on actually *finding* the quests, as they stop leading you from one to another. There's a major problem with quest chains, as you may miss out entirely on a huge portion of content just because you skip over a single quest.
I don't feel qualified to answer this one, as I played a warrior class. In beta, at least, warriors were literally only good when tanking, and absolutely useless at any other time.
The class system is the most versatile of any class-based MMO I've seen. The invasions and open rifts do help keep things somewhat interesting, although they can make things frustrating, too. I love that they encourage exploration, and there's not really anywhere on the map that's "off limits."
OK here's my 2c after Beta'ing and a few days of pre release.
yes it is quite fun. It is a well polished game with no glaring flaws in mechanics or balance, and does not seem to be half completed. It works it works well. It does everything you would expect.
The good points. The way the class/soul system works is quite interesting, and is probably the most innovative element of the game. You can mix and match to create what you want to play. The game world is gorgeous, and as I said before it all works in a well polished manner. It is easily the most refined and polished MMO release than we have seen since WoW.
The while not bad, not quite so good. The big one here is originality. This is not some new gaming experience or some genre changer. Everything about it is simply an evolution or refinement of what has gone before. The lore and gameplay is a literal mashup of every other fantasy MMO that has been made to this point. We gots dragons and elves and angels and weird tentacled things from beyond. All extremely well presented, but really absolutely nothing new. This sort of extends into the overall gameplay. It's a WoW type fantasy MMO. It's an extremely well done WoW type fantasy mmo that evolves and refines some elements. But if you hate WoW or you hate EQ or EQ2 you will not be finding the new shiny for any huge length of time here. You asked about crafting. It's pretty much the same as the last few MMO's. ie very similar to WoW. A few refinements, but sadly a few things exactly the same (ie competition with the charmingly annoying community for things like mining nodes is exactly the same nightmare that it is in WoW. he who moves fastest wins, and the node will be stolen from you while you are clearing the mobs).
As I said it is a very good game, and if you are a fan of modern fantasy MMO's it is something you will get alot of enjoyment out of. If the thought of doing yet another kill 12 murlock quest (sorry sorry "Deep Ones") to gather their eyeballs makes your skin crawl, you may want to wait and see if they offer a free trial. The game is a very well polished familiar experience that reprosses and spits back out every genre convention you have ever played before. It is not taking you anyplace new or unfamiliar.
I just can't help it, I have to respond to some of this complete BS I'm seeing here. No world PvP huh, hahahahaha Rogues ganking everyone, OMGZ hahahahaha. Oh first off, yes there is open world PvP dont even go there. Rogues ganking everyone huh? You mean the proven lowest melee DPS class in the game huh? The melee rogue IS the lowets DPS class in the game of Rift, has been for months now, its a known issue even. If you think they are just running rampant and ganking you....you must SERIOUSLY SUCK at your class.
Look someone else who hasn't gotten past level 25 yet, not even gonna try anymore. PLEASE for the love of GOD play some before you come out and start telling people about things you dont know.
Is this contagious? Really?? One zone with wardstones huh...hahahah no NOT TRUE AGAIN. Not going to find an AV or WG huh, I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you have never seen Port Scion huh. Just a guess there.
HERE! Look, someone who has played some. This here is a true statement. The Black Garden (10-19 warfront) is based off the Murder Ball match style originally developed in Warhammer Online and used in Mourkain Temple. You CAN tell the WoW players in this match, they are the ones you dont care about getting the Fang at all, they are the ones who stand around fighting each other thinking they are farming honor points. Truth is they are getting nothing by doing this. Just causing thier team to lose the match and make everyone on thier side get HALF the favor for thier time.
Codex is closely related to AB in WoW with 4 controllable resource nodes (flags) to capture. The Codex is worth more than the other 3 per tick. Again though, winning the match gives double favor for the winning team over the losing team. Farming kills does little to increase your ending favor earns so standin around fighting for the sake of fighting does little to further yourself and your team.
Later warfronts take on a more diverse course, Port Scion for instance has PvE content in it similar to the OLD AV in WoW did. I'm not going to go into whats in them all since I'm not allowed to, but please dont think it doesn't exist just because YOU haven't been there yet.
There is more than one zone with wardstones in it, there is more than one contested zone, there is a lot of open world PvP content available. If your not willing to partake in it please just say your not willing to partake in it, dont come on here trying to tell others it doesnt exist.
As for the PvE content, I'm not going to comment on it other than to say ....hmmm yeah, its content. Been there done that. I spend 75%+ of my PvE time on footholds, rifts, and invasions - I just find them more entertaining than quest grinding.
I found the Beta to be mostly fun. I think it's a great game, but it's not the game for me.
It looks quite attractive, and the soul system will give people lots of opportunity to play around and try different things. The Beta was far more polished and balanced than most games are at that point. They've done a great job with that, so far. There's dungeons and battlegrounds already, and you can expect more as time goes on. I did enjoy the combat. The crafting system is simple and easy for those that aren't into crafting (very akin to WoW crafting), but will bore anyone who actually loves crafting. Unless they change the flavour of the factions, you can expect that on any server there will be more people playing on the Defiant side than the Guardian side (as my friend commented about the Guardians: "if I wanted to go to church, I'd go to an actual church"). It's also a typical quest grind game, if that appeals to you.
For me, the biggest turn-off was the rifts and invasions. For the first few, they were neat. A couple dozen later, they're repetitive. Then they get annoying. As a lowbie with crappy gear and very little else you feel pressured to run from rift to rift just to get the special currency to buy something decent. But unless you're in a raid at a huge one, you get almost nothing. And the rifts keep coming. When people get sick of the rifts and start ignoring them (for those people able to just stop caring), the invasions start. Depending on the other people playing, a zone can get really messed up for simple PvE. In a Theme Park game where you follow a set path, having that path suddenly cluttered with big groups of crap (sometimes elite crap) can get a bit annoying.
Simplisticly put: it's WoW with much better graphics and cluttered, annoying PvE zones.
I'm sorry, but Battle for Port Scion is no AV nor is it a WG at all.
Another MMO is pretty much all I can say about this game.
New soul system works out nice so people dont have to level up more than one character.
Dynamic content is similar in mechanics to public quests just more mobile.
If you're looking for something interesting to explore that doesnt require as many hours to high level in multiple characters its ok. If you enjoyed Warhammer public quests then it would also be fun.
If you're expecting something new or innovative then RIFT is not it.
