You've got to remember that this game has been in Alpha/Beta for a long time. I've seen remarks saying it was 'ready for release' in beta 5, yet there were 2 more beta's after that.
Some people have played this game a LOT already so it should come as no surprise really, except for those who haven't been following the development.
This is one reason why i used my beta time to actually test rather than thrash content and play for free.
Made this mistake before, game launches, now you have to pile through all the content you have already done in the OB and as Rift only has one linear path in the early stages, you don't really have much option.
Problem for me with the "stop and smell the roses" comments is that the basic storyline for Rift is awful, it's just painfully bad bordering on a tongue-in-cheek parody of fantasy games, as it's not meant this way, it's all the more tragic.
Can't blame people blasting through the quests, they are all WoW quest templates, players are used to blasting through them. In the same vein can't blame those for rushing to end game content as the content en-route is too bland and "samey" for some players.
I can certainly sympathize with the bland and samey feel of the questing, especially since nothing you do actually changes the outcome or direction of gameplay in any way (please hurry up TOR with it's quest branching). Yet I must say that raiding, no matter the game, is the most bland and samey content you can find in the genre, repeat ad nauseum to the most extreme. So, I have to wonder why people who rush to the raid game would complain about repetitive questing when they enjoy the most repetitive content on the planet in the form of raids.
These aren't first-timers. They've fought him before, so really...it doesn't count.
RIFT engame isn't a joke. Some of the dev's haven't even gotten very far in endgame yet.
It's hard to believe how many people are level 50 and raiding already and the game has been out one week. It took months to get to 50 in Vanguard and to even make a dent in the raid content.
Our entire guild is trying to slow the pace so we can enjoy the game.. but even at casual play we have people in their 40s already
Well this is the Aion factor now isn't it. This is another place where you can either hate or
love Blizzard for it. Aion the biggest complaint was the grind and it took forever..qq I quit
I personally do not like it so I am avoiding instances, except to run them once of twice.
I believe the instaces sub 50 should have lock out timers, but that is just my opinion.
Trion has expected this and it is appearin that the end game is there. The next step is to
see how fast they decide to put out the next raid content.
Honestly there is nothing you can do, It´s like a new hype the opening month , gamers grief rush to the endgame ..
And then say the game is stale , truth be told that people are there is already a credit that there is endgame.

So making MMORPG games harder and harder to judge.

4 Must be full of endgame
5 community has to be nice .
Actually the answer to these last two might be one and the same. Make it take a TON of time to achieve max level. It should be a combination of experience as well as achievements perhaps. I mean, why bother with lower level dungeons, battlegrounds, and lower level epic equipment if you blow right through those levels in a few hours anyway. So in essence why bother with the community at those levels either. MMO's should make you pause at certain tiers long enough (i.e., weeks) for you to want to improve this tiered character and not just worry about max level gear/play...
GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind" 1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN 2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements
Honestly there is nothing you can do, It´s like a new hype the opening month , gamers grief rush to the endgame ..

In this case i would definetly say the glass is half full , instead of half empty .
I don´t understand why the need for the rush to complete the game in 1 month , then cancel .
Might as well not have played it , every MMO in the end it´s the community that counts .
At this rate next MMO release before we can judge if its a success or failure .
Is not in the smooth launch , but it´s after 2 months , when the real playing community shows .
So making MMORPG games harder and harder to judge.
1 smooth polish launch required
2 number of boxes sold
3 numbers of subscription maintained .
4 Must be full of endgame
5 community has to be nice .
Eh well not many MMO qualify at all then , and future developers of MMO gerne has it harder and harder.
I think Rift succeeded , in a way if I see how many MMORPG players who normally wouldn´t play something for long.
Are finally FUN again , sure its not original , but for a group of people who have been trough a lot of launches and games.
It sure is a sign forward , instead of backward .
1) If a game (MMOs included) don't launch smoothly then they deserve to fail. A smooth launch should be a given if you want the game you make to see any sort of success.
2) I think all games need a lot of boxes sold.
3) I think an MMO that keeps at least a few hundred thousand subs for several years can be considered a success.
4) This should also be a given for MMOs. Unless the leveling curve makes the game an absolute grind then a lack of endgame content really can't be forgiven as that is where most players will spend there time.
5) This is completely subjective and varies to each person and there will always be a vocal, negative minority. Asses will be asses.
* Increased the damage reduction bonus to players from Toughness against Expert Dungeon and Raid mobs.
* Increased the amount of Critical Hit bonus damage for Expert Dungeon and Raid mobs.
Trion is definitely paying attention. First time I have seen a instance buffed rather nerfed in a long time.
It could be they are just trying to fix a mistake they made. If I remember correctly you yourself said that people were saying the expert dungeons were too easy. Doesn't really seem like something that people should get excited about.

I did notice those threads start to pop up maybe this is an adjustment? Atleast they are not set in stone and are willing to make changes.
Joke's have punchlines. That's when the build up gets settled with a clever or intelligent quip.
RIFT has PQs and other token grind activities. So, yeah it's got an end game. I'd call it a sorry excuse of an end game before I'd ruin the joy of a good joke.
I hope its not like WoW's endgame, wow's endgame is totally pointless due to nothing really to do with the gear that you waste the time to get, its the same carrot-on-a-stick process adinfinitum, its why I quit when I hit cap and was in a raid or 2, I relized how pointless it was cancelled my account and moved on. Sadly most mmo's coming out have been little more than wow clones so I haven't played em much since I want a diffrent experence, not the same experence in a diffrent skin, Rift to me feels too much like WoW which is why it gets the WoW clone stamp of disapproval, I might try it eventually (Only had beta experence) But I won't expect much from it. Kinda need to upgrade my pc to enjoy rift. or try to enjoy it.

To bad there is absolutely no way to get raid gear in Rift without actually raiding. It does have gear token that only apply to Expert(heroic) level type gear to prepare you for raids. There are no wlefare epics in Rift. They have specifically said if you want raid level gear then you need to go get it.
WoW screwed up when they let you run Heroics to equal raid level gear. This is NOT Blizzard devs it is a mix of a lot of different devs and Scott Hartsman is a EQ guy. It is just two different styles of raiding which is why Rift has attracted a few EQ guilds.

It still seems that the only point to raiding is to get better gear, which you then use for raiding to get better gear ad infinitum. I think that is the ultimate difference between being a true WoW-clone or not. If all you end up doing is raiding for gear in Rift then I think it would be safe to say that it is a WoW clone.

Well Rift has copied WoW pretty well so far, I expect them to cave and offer welfare epix sooner rather than later. Due to people whining about "Wahhhh I don't got enough time to raid and I need the gear now Wahhhh" Thats why the welfare epics came into wow, was people QQing about not being able to make time to raid.. Sigh WoW was such a good game till the raids were made ezmode, game has gone nowhere but downhill since a little bit before the first expansion.
Anyway if Trion doesn't cave in to the whiners, I say good for them, its how it should be, oh and whatever you do DO NOT add epics/raid level gear u can get from pvp, force people to raid if they wanna own in pvp, this is how WoW was at least untill Blizzard caved into whining babies.

This is my only real concern with the game, if endgame is either easy or uninteresting, then there will be so few renewals in a month, that despite not having the flaws of similar mmos, (WAR, AoC, Aion) it will suffer the same fate. Though I really enjoy this game, I cant shake the nagging feeling that it the ultimate problem will be a repeat of STO, low content, fast track to endgame, and no lasting appeal. It all seems to rest on Trion really delivering a lot more content with each update, now that the release it out the way, its all down to keeping the subs. Maybe Rift should have been B2P like GW1?
I just hope the endgame raid's aren't as pointless as they are in world of warcraft, where there is 0 to do with the raid gear cept more carrot-on-a-stick raids for yet more useless gear. Someone in my wow guild spent a month for some item finally got it was all happy.. in my head I was like "You wasted a month for a worthless item that has 0 real use to you congrats for being a fool."
If I can raid in rift, and raid gear is also best pvp gear (As it SHOULD BE, should not be ezmode raid level gear thru pvp). I'll enjoy rift's endgame very much. I'm the type that won't bother with raiding if I have no use for the gear, as I have said many times, this is how WoW is, no real use for raid gear other than more carrot-on-a-stick raids. I actually had fun leveling a char to cap in wow, its when I hit endgame when I got bored and quit.
To romanator0: to me a wow clone is a game that tries to emulate wow's exact gameplay or close to it, which for the most part is exactly what rift does. If you can go into a mmorpg and go "I've played this before" its not a good mmorpg. That I've played this before feeling is what I got from Rift, not to mention Rift has even plagurised(sp?) some skill icons, and descriptions seemingly directly from WoW. Surprized Blizz hasn't sued Trion yet tbh.
Honestly though if endgame raid gear is best gear for pvp, and such, thats one MAJOR diff from WoW, i'll have to wait for more reports on it. Also, about the raid thing.. what you expect? when someone hit cap not even 2 days into the head start, the fact they could do that even if they did play for 48-72 hours, shows how short Rift actually is at its core. I like my levels to take time, but at the same time I don't want it to feel like a grindfest.. Which is something no mmorpg has achieved, cept maybe FF11 before the exp change. I like to feel rewarded after a level up, not just "yay i leveled, 1 hour till the next one" that wow and its clones tend to be.
Alot of people say I am negative, but I am just telling it how it really is, most people though can't handle it and label me a troll or some such, especally fanboys.

Can you name a theme park that does not have gear raiding as part of endgame? EQ 1 even had that, and please tell me you do not think that is a wow clone.
Just saying using a mechanic that most every MMO has as a way of saying something is totally a WoW clone seems odd. Korean grinders have endgame raiding for gear grind, all themeparks have it, a few sandboxes do as well. and if you are pve'ing, that is all you will be doing in most any mmo anyways, and yes even the ones before WoW had it.
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
Can you name a theme park that does not have gear raiding as part of endgame? EQ 1 even had that, and please tell me you do not think that is a wow clone.
I think he is getting something confused. Everyone's big major beef with Blizzard is there horrible habit of how fast they out date gear you literally just got and out date content they literally released 3 months ago. WoW has been stuck in this cycle for the past 7 years for some reason where they go up instead of sideways with gear progression.

Most mmo's have raiding, but very few have any actual uses for raid gear besides more carrot-on-a-stick raids, the smart ones, make it so pvp'ers have to raid for their gear, which means skill aside, a raider can match a pvper in gear. EQ2 did it best though IMO. Its so fun to mentor someone lower than you and rip apart a dungeon that when you were at your real level you may have gotten owned. Not to mention you can get Alternate Advancement exp and stuff you may have missed. In terms of endgame I think Eq2 did it best with the AA system, and being able to mentor down to have some fun, help friends, and get AA exp you might have missed. It creates a purpose for that uber raid gear. Not to mention you can pvp with it too if thats your thing.

That video also mentions how Blizzard brain washes people. Apparently Blizzard made you think they invented tier raid gear or gear progression. Welcome to MMO's for what the past 20 years?
There was even gear progression in Zelda right if I remember right. I mean Legend of Zelda the first one.
So far they seem to be listening pretty well to the playerbase, and they have already proven themselves once with a freaking spotless launch (no queues were not a problem, it was the players who refused to start on any server other than the full ones). So far they seem to know what they are doing, I can just hope they keep it up. I'm not saying everything is perfect, and I have posted about/reported some bugs in the current version. Overall I have more hope in this dev team than I have had in almost any other, becuase they are FAST to respond to issues, and they actually communicate with the playerbase.

Anybody can be a cynical critic and not give any ideas. I do it all the time. That guy never once mentions other uses and neither have you actually.
You get raid gear for raiding? Trion is being nice by "saying" it should be semi-equivalent to pvp gear. Remember I said the Lead Producer is an EQ guy, so these ideas you like from EQ or EQ2 probably got worked into Rift somehow.

Honestly there is nothing you can do, It´s like a new hype the opening month , gamers grief rush to the endgame ..
And then say the game is stale , truth be told that people are there is already a credit that there is endgame.
GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind"
1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN
2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements
Everyone else notice this?
COMBAT
* Increased the damage reduction bonus to players from Toughness against Expert Dungeon and Raid mobs.
* Increased the amount of Critical Hit bonus damage for Expert Dungeon and Raid mobs.
Trion is definitely paying attention. First time I have seen a instance buffed rather nerfed in a long time.

The Dungeons
It could be they are just trying to fix a mistake they made. If I remember correctly you yourself said that people were saying the expert dungeons were too easy. Doesn't really seem like something that people should get excited about.
I did notice those threads start to pop up maybe this is an adjustment? Atleast they are not set in stone and are willing to make changes.
A joke is a poor comparison.
"An MMORPG could be completely diffirent from WoW. Just look at games like Dofus, Wizard101 or EVE. But as it is, most of the Western MMOs are trying to succeed by out-WoWing WoW. It's like an army of 10 sports games made about same sports, and barely none about other sports. WoW clone is an accurate description of those games, it manages to convey much information with only two words."

There is a way to get geared up for Raids. Rifting, Planarites and use them to buy pretty decent gear for starting to raid.
Every guild should be doing rifts together if they want to raid endgame. I mean what better practice is there since rifts are raids anyway.

This is what I'm talking about.
If the entire point of raiding is to get the next tier of gear just so you can raid to get the next tier of gear (ad infinitum) then the game is officially a WoW clone.
No I don't think EQ is a WoW clone. However, if that was added after WoW became a success then I think it would be safe to say that the devs of EQ took steps to try to be more WoW-like.

If they keep outdating their own gear just to force doing more raiding, then yes I would agree with you.
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
Then I guess we have to wait and see, although it seems they are already trying to do something similar with the tiered raids.
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.
My point still stands.
