Anybody can be a cynical critic and not give any ideas. I do it all the time. That guy never once mentions other uses and neither have you actually.
You get raid gear for raiding? Trion is being nice by "saying" it should be semi-equivalent to pvp gear. Remember I said the Lead Producer is an EQ guy, so these ideas you like from EQ or EQ2 probably got worked into Rift somehow.
My point still stands. And you seem to have missed it unlike xephonics. Raiding for gear is nice, but if Trion just keeps adding newer and more powerful tiers to the gear (which, from what I know of the tiers of their raids, they have already implemented a base for) then the game is a WoW-clone. Gear should stop becoming better at some point, if it doesn't then you are just running on a gear treadmill like WoW does.
Also, I don't like these ideas, in fact I completely abhor them and it makes me lose respect for any devs that use them. It is my firm belief that if they are implemented it shows that the devs are just lazy and their game doesn't have enough content to keep it fun so they use planned obsolescense to keep you playing.

Though I tend to agree that a gear raiding treadmill is annoying, I'm curious what else a themepark could do to add more content. If they have a set gear limit, and you get it, and they never update it, what other reason would there be to play past reaching the "end"?
Would raising the level cap, then adding in new dungeons/raids/gear still fit in your planned obsolescence window? And if it does, what should they do instead?
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

I don't know, maybe do it for fun. You can add gear to new raids or even and new raids, but making that gear better than all the other gear in the game just puts you on the treadmill. The gear that is added should be different statistically and visually, but it shouldn't be better. Games are about having fun, not getting the next tier of gear, this is something that I don't see many devs doing very often.
This is where the non linear sandbox elements come to the rescue, like for example housing in SWG, I belive that is what keeps it alive today. There are almost endless limits to what you can house, what items you can store, put on display, use it for storage, fight house, guild house, acheive rare odds and ends through preferrable "hard open world" content, not to mention the beast master profession and territorial pvp, even tough I hate SWG today, not because of what it is, but because I spent so much time pointless grinding in what it was before(yeah the Jedi grind), it had some very good ideas.
The majority remain the same, although the higher up you go, the mobs spanwed start to have more abilities vs the players. Still, given the numbers you can tank and spank them.
What changes are the invasions, especially in contested areas. Quite a few of them pit the two sides vs each other on who's going to complete the objectives faster. Others you need to have both sides win the objective to get the reward. That's in the mid 30 though.
I tried some rift puzzles in the beta but I didn't manage to actually solve any.

When you say pit the two sides vs each other do you mean they are racing to tank & spank/ zerg their respective sides? I never got to Invasions so I don't particularly know what's involved.
Lets say you're in searing gorge, a 30ish area. The north of the zone houses the majority of Guardian encampments while the south houses the Defiants. You get the usual zonewide message that in camp A of Guardians that major NPC is collecting shards from rift footholds that spawned all over the map. Same with defiants.
So you get, say one guardian raid group dealing with the north of the zone while another of defiants dealing wth the south. Innevitably the north and south run out of footholds so whatever is left is in the middle.
So you get a raid trying to tacklea foothold while getting attacked by the opposite raid, while at the same time both raids may be missing people going back to deliver shards or whatever hey are gathering for the invasion.
That's on a PvP server. And both sides did lose the objectives (they are usually timed, roughly 45 minutes or so) on numerous occassions because they were more busy trying to hold the middle and wipe the other raid than actually gather whatever they needed to gather.
Basically you get something that is more or less a spank fight (kill a foothold) and put it in a place where both sides want it, then add frequent high level elites spawning for both to deal with.
Two days ago the defiants won such an event. The two bosses spawned at the defiant camp I was in and two raids (I assume it was two raids, too many people around and I was healing a tank outside my raid) were killing it. At the same time the guardian raid appeared on our back taking pot shots at us. It was a mess with all the people and the bosses spawing their own adds, apart from the invasion forces running around. THat was the only time I've seen the server lagging so much that my skills were not firing off due to server lag. Eventually one of the two bosses despawned because we didn't kill it on time. We still proceeded hunting the guardians back to their own camp for the next half hour or so.
i find this thread more on the trolling site imho.
There are always guilds who will be *cough* "elite" *cough* and run the content that Trion has been programming on for many years in just a fiew days......i find this behavior realy lacking respect for the devs who put so much time in it.
Kinda funny when i think about it......they want to "see" all the content first, but they go so fast that they miss half the content.
Maybe the ideal game for hardcore players would be a game with 2 lvls and they tons load of instanced dungeons with nothing but purples in it?
Must be me, but i still love the lvling itsself at a pretty low pace......and talking to some guildies and friends ingame.
Its not because SOME people rush trough the entire content in days that doesnt mean Trion made a mistake.
Its those rushing people that are lacking the RP in MMORPG.....nothing more nothing less.
imho the game lvl's just fine and am sure i will find enough end game content to stay busy for a while.
So no endgame isnt a joke......its the rushers that are imho.
So Trion is obviously experimenting still with end game before a majority of us get there.
DUNGEONS AND RAIDS
* Greenscale’s Blight: Lockout timer has been changed from 3 days to 1 week.
* Players can no longer reset Expert or Raid instances that are locked to their party.
* Increased the bonus granted by Hit and Focus against Expert Dungeon and Raid mobs.
* Increased the Dodge and Resistances of Expert Dungeon and Raid mobs.
Today's changes to end game. Notice the change on the raid? They are definitely adjusting the difficulty up and I am not seeing any nerfs "yet". Even more encouraging information coming out which is very impressive.
These guys were Alpha testers and yes they are good. They have seen it for a while. RIFT endgame is pretty hard and the last couple of patches have made it even harder giving mobs more defense more crit chance and more dodge etc. Wouldnt suprise me if people get suprised by how long this first batch of RIFT content takes. That said gamers are stubborn bastards that will try and try until they get it and developers seem to underestimate the skill of the players in the game so who knows. I'm looking foward to hitting 50 this weekend and turning my sites to the endgame goodies...oh and crafting since I put it off!

I think the problem is they showed just how fast you could literally blow through Tier 1, 2, and
start knocking out the raid content without even being geared.
If I was a dev who actually cared I would have changed it too. This is not the approach Blizzard takes to a instance/raid. If a guild like Paragon knocks it out then that is Blizzards signal to nerf it for everyone else.
I always and I mean ALWAYS hated that pattern of Blizzard. Instead of tweaking there were always across the board nerfs.
Yea Trion rocks and is really good at working with players and I think thats what will ultimately propel this game to success. Its no doubt a fun game and if the dev's don't get something tweaked just right they tell the players they are working on it and everyone is more understanding and bears with them till its fixed. Trion is very quick about fixes/updates so thats a plus too. I'm having a lot of fun at the moment leveling which I can't say for a lot of the other games I have played recently so I hope their end game content is good too!

How are the higher level boss/rift/raid fights?
I played till about lvl 20 and every single rift I had encoutered was a mind numbing zerg fest.
Hahhahahahahahahahahaha are u fking kidding me?!!?!?! xjhahhahahahaahahh
