I was going too try rift after all the good things I have heard about them but I have had issues with the downloader and Rift CS has been 0 Help at all. My downloader keeps giving me error 1003 (Yes its running in admin mode). I called Trion about this issue and they basicly told me they don't know what too do too fix it and I'm shit out of luck because I'm not getting my money back... So yeah I encourage people who don't want to deal with incrediably poor Customer Support not to try this game.

They will fix the problem. What downloader are you using?
The normal rift downloader client. I have been reading around this has been a issue sense the first beta. They should send people with this issue a disc or somthing not just tell them Oh well go fuck yourself.
You experience error #1003 during patching, or your patching speed drops down to nearly zero
This is caused by a connection problem between your computer and our content delivery network (Akamai). We are still working to fully understand the cause, but if you keep trying, eventually the patch will succeed. You do not need to reinstall the game client if this occurs.
This made me lol hard.
Not trions job really though is it, its a problem with your downloader nothing to do with them.
Tried other download managers? tried googling your problem?
All i see is rift rift rift in these forums today, cant believe how many people are seriously hyped by this, think they are going to be a huge contender in the next 6 months wether they can hold of GW2 and TOR is another question.
Ex. myth of soma, legend of mir, mu online and eudemons online player.
Current game : Runescape (until pc build is complete)
Did the thought ever cross your mind that Rift customer service might be a tad bit busy at the moment while bringing 99 servers online for launch? lol It just seems to me that your expectations are too high. I played in all the betas, downloaded their client multiple times on multiple machines, and never had an issue that wasn't quickly addressed.
Was you in RIFT beta? Ifso, did you remove the beta client from your system?
This is just about as funny as the rift thing I posted above. How is this not Trions problem? I don't see AAA titles like World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, Aion, EvE, or even Darkfall letting somthing like this slide. Its a problem with THERE downloader client. If downloader was not fully tested or whatever they should not sell digital copies of a game that I will never beables to play now that it won't download. I also could not download the game before purchasing the the game so this problem occured after my money was safely in thier hands.
Is th eop playing at a public university like maimi? does he have the internet cable like other canidains have.
This is an error where the firewall at some cable companies and major universities have that block it.
Hit the recover button in the bottom corner to start off where you left off on the last download if you need to start over.
If this was the case my speed would be crazy, and it would not get very far. My download crashed at 80%. I can talk fine with there server til 80% then it crashes? I would not care if they would just give me a refund than I would have went and bought a boxed copy but NOOO the guy was a dick and basicly said well too bad have fun with your wasted 50 bucks.
I have. I have also tried redownloading 3 times. which it takes 4 hours too get to 80% just to watch it crash.
Sounds like the problem is on your end.
Did you have the same issues installing Hello Kitty Online?
Do you still have the beta client on your system?
Dude W.T.F buhahahaha...ah sht um.
No, the Hello Kitty Online dev team had a brain.
I had a problem with the code from CE (that I preordered for Gamestop) not working and therefore wasn't able to get into the game's Head Start. I submitted a ticket to Trion at the very beginning of the head start and didn't get a response til a day after official launch. Granted they are busy, but when you can't get into something that is part of the package that you are paying for, it sucks!
I'm not angry with Tion for taking so long to get back to me as I undestand how crazy it must be for them right now. However, the delay in them getting back to me was long enough for me to decide that I'm taking my money elsewhere. SWTOR, TERA or GW2 anyone?
Also, from what I've been hearing from a lot of people in regards to how repetitive the game becomes so early on, it appears my troubles may have been a blessing in disguise.
Based on what I'm reading, I have a funny feeling this game is going to grow old rather quickly with a lot of its subscribers and I would be shocked if it retains even 50% of those subs after 3 months.
If for some reason they did mention Akamai then it could be related to any number of routing problems. Most likely place to start is to disable your software firewalls, or use port forwarding for the neccessary ports. Same goes for your router as most have built in firewalls at this point. If it goes beyond that, then Akamai is essentially a caching system that directs your traffic to the closet most available source for the download. You may be able to setup a proxy connection or vpn to somewhere else not local to you for the download. Although my money is on your local software/hardware and that is not Trion's problem.
Also do not say any of those other title's you mentioned had downloader problems. Hell for the longest time people couldn't download WoW patches at more than 10kb. Samethings with other titles you mentioned. Just because you did not have the problem does not mean others did not. The key here is that no company can account for the millions of configurations of software/hardware. They can make it work for the majority. If you are having issues with your software/hardware wich is most likely the case that is not their responsibility to fix, they can try and help but nothing beyond that. Do not blame others for your lack of knowledge.
No, I did not play in beta.
Well I'm gona agree with the op, sorry but companies have to be accountable here. If one of your retail marketers has an error only with your product you have to find out what that is. To many companies go meh it will fix itself, and this is a bad policy from the get go. If the downloader for one company is messed up and people report this then give them a link to another downloader and ask them to try that.
You can't just go it is an isolated incident only on a few machines who bought the product from company x and not care. As to the huge server ammount, if they have to much crap going on for their CS to handel then they need to higher on some temporary help, it's not like unemployment hasn't sky rocketed in the last few years, they can find people.
And for the it's your hardwares problem, this is why companies make knowledge bases and if they are to lazy to do that it is again on them.
I understand this but this has been a KNOWN issue sense the 2nd closed beta. I mean they have had quite abit of time too fix this issue. I was also frustrated with how poorly they deal with people having this issue. Honestly if they knew it was still a issue they should have had some plan for people that get this error not and I quote "I'm sorry miss there is nothing I can do for you with this issue. Is there anything else I can help you with today?" Well hell no MY GAME DOES NOT WORK YOU TARD.
I had troubles with the download and patch and I read up on it. Turned out to be my router settings. Every online game has a few ports that they use. I opened those ports in my personal router and BOOOOM......problem solved.
My buddy has dsl modem that gets around 512Kbps at good times and he had to restart his a huge bunch of times since Trion kept updating the patcher and the client. He finally got his downloaded on both laptop and desktop.
It would seem the error is either with your ISP which there are some ISP's with known issues that Trion is working with to correct......or your setup at your house....there could be no other issue at work here.
Also I got a LOL out of your comment about Darkfall somehow not having troubles. Darkfall was a nightmare all thru it's beta process and even launch. There was problem after problem. I know since I was very interested in getting it for almost a year before it's release. They really messed that game release up. Trion's release is about 1,000,000X better than Darkfall's release.
You are going to be right. It is going to be end user settings. The end user will not work to figure it out and fix it. It is really their problem. 99% chance with the described issue it is their router/firewall settings.
I have my modem directly pluged in and I have turned off AVG (Which I don't think would effect it anyways.) So what now? hmm? Trions should address this issue but they claim they don't know what causes it seems to be if it was so damn clear that they would say they knew what the problem was and a way to fix it but they don't do they?
This sounds in my ears like something you should talk about with your internet provider.
Why would it work fine for 80% of the download than crash everytime.
I work as a cable internet installer. If your modem has a signal that is weak then your connection to the internet can be intermittant. You may get great bandwidth for a few hours and then it may cut off or miss several packets. If this occurs then the download will stop and you will get an error.
You can call your ISP and have them come check it out for you if they are any good. You can also log into your modem and check the levels yourself. You just type in in the address field 192.168.100.1 for most standard cable modems. This may be different for you and your cable provider should be able to give you that info if it is different from what I have listed.
Our cable system forward signal runs best at +5 to -5 and our reverse works best between 37-48
Once again your cable provider should be able to tell you this information as well.
Other tests you can do are a ping test.
Go to your DOS prompt by hitting start /// Programs /// accesories/// command prompt//// then type in
ping www.google.com -t
this will run a constant game of catch with google and you want to watch for high ping times... (anything over 100) and also packet loss (time outs)
Let the program run for a long time and keep checking back with it. If you miss packets or have high ping times you have problems. If you have issues with your signal your ISP should someone out to fix that for no fee since you or your parents are paying a monthly bill for working services.
