    That being said, don't let an issue like this stop you from playing it, especially if you already have a free month coming.  It'd be tragic if this game was exactly what you were looking for but you let this issue stop you from arriving at that realization.

     

    Keep at it, have some perseverance and eventually you'll figure it out or run into the right person who knows what's going on and how to fix it.  There's no point to blatantly wasting your money, especially when it's very possible something good will be found but ultimately it's up to you as it's your decision.

    We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics.

    This is caused by a connection problem between your computer and our content delivery network (Akamai). We are still working to fully understand the cause, but if you keep trying, eventually the patch will succeed. You do not need to reinstall the game client if this occurs.

     

    This made me lol hard.

     This sounds in my ears like something you should talk about with your internet provider.

    Why would it work fine for 80% of the download than crash everytime.

     

    Scan your harddiskdrive for problems, with the repair option toggled.

    DISCLAIMER: I havent bought RIFT, nor do I have any plans of buying it anytime soon and buying is an option only if its reviews are good/decent after a substantial time has passed.

     

    But if you say if the problem is Akamai related,  you can TRY doing this (I got no clue it will work or not but something to do if their CS dont give a damn right?):

    1.Stop>Delete the download and uninstalling any of its downloader/launcher.

    2..Purge all traces of Akamai from your system.

    3...Run a scandisk on your drives, defrag, flush registry (use any software such as piriform's ccleaner and ALWAYS SAVE A BACKUP BEFORE DELETING, if you are not sure of how to clear reg files manually then at any case DO NOT TOUCH reg files if you dont know how to work with them, careless tampering can maim your system critically. Period).

    3...Create a Akamai control file (.bat) beforehand. [[ I will not explain on how to do this because Im just shooting in the dark with suggesting this method; I remember seeing a walkthrough on this site itself on how to stop/mod Akamai's usage, so hit that thread up ]] If this method works then posting a walkthru on how to do this would make more sense.

    4....Re-Download whatever downloader they link you to from their site.

    5.....Try running it again, if it again tanks at that benchmark 80% then check your main drive (C:, probably) for any error log/report made when this happens, or send a rift search over your systerm if a report or log (a .txt file) is made Anywhere on your system. Then send them this log and demand a hotfix or tools with dealing with this problem or whatever support they can give in case its regarding any conflict / net related problem on your end. 

    Even then, if there is no error log, or they got no real time verify tool out for usage (since they already Knew of this problem before launch) then this is a pretty bullshitty picture they are painting. If customer support sucks so hard at release then it wouldnt take a wise man to guess how good its gonna get with the same attitude 6 months down the road from launch.

     

    I again state that I DUNNO IF THIS WILL WORK, but if it does then well and good and Trion CS owe me internet dollars, yep yep. If it doesnt then oh well you can atleast say you tried.

     

    But really that sure is some horrible customer support they got going on here, makes me wanna not buy their product. But we`ll see.
