I wouldn't say being able to play on my iphone makes this technically advanced... just that they're planning features other games haven't done as much. I'd say the most technically advanced game on the market in terms of server structure, AI, ect is Darkfall or Eve.
Other games haven't done as much?

Amazing when you can play your MMO on a smartphone. I was blown away when I first saw the app.
So you are saying, if I understood correctly, you play as the opposing faction, and the 'good' guys are really the bad guys? I played Alliance, so I have to disagree. I am a good guy, and I am sorry to break it to you, but if I am good then, well, you know the rest....
I was with alliance too due to friends but come on.... ally the aristocrats that enslaved the horde

I have no idea about the actual story. I played with soem friends and rushed through it. If you can point me in the right direction, I would like to see what you mean, and read about it.

They never said anything about "dumbing down" the game so it can be usable on a controller. It's just a possible option for those users who prefer controllers over keyboards. GW2 is first and foremost a PC game. It's be designed with PC capabilities in mind, not console or controllers. The controllers are merely a side thing.
Plus with only an 11-14 skill bar (your skill bar, energy potions, plus any additional profession specific skills i.e. guardian virtues), it's possible to play it with a controller. I'd imagine it would take a lot more skill to play GW2 with a controller effectively, however it's not impossible.
Also this notion that being able to use a controller = easier is retarded. Remember, the game is first and foremost a PC game. Which means anyone using a standard keyboard and mouse will have a huge advantage over controller users in terms of targeting and skill usage. If someone who is using a controller beats a person using a keyboard/mouse, you are either terrible, or the person has mastered the art of using a controller.
Gw2 supports multiple monitors with 3D technology support and 3D dolby digital surround sound system. I wish I have that. I'll have to satisfy myself with the basic computer setup..
If Guild Wars 2 doesn't even run DirectX 11, then it can hardly be the most technologically advanced game. I don't think that ArenaNet has explicitly stated this, but some comments sure make it sound like a DirectX 9.0c game to me. Welcome to 2004.
It's dx10 or sure... no word yet on dx11. Most likely not.
It's extremely unlikely that Guild Wars 2 will be a DirectX 10 game. Making it DirectX 10 means that you have to have separate DirectX 10 and DirectX 9.0c versions, which is a horrible pain to code. Meanwhile, DirectX 10 doesn't offer much in the way of interesting new features. It flopped for a reason, and isn't going to catch on now.
DirectX 11 avoids the compatibility issues, as it allows a game designer to code the game once, and if a video card doesn't support DirectX 11, it will simply disable whatever features the card doesn't support.
With tessellation, DirectX 11 also has a point, as that does bring a definite improvement in image quality. It's behind the scenes, but DirectX 11 supposedly makes it easier for a game to be coded to scale well to several processor cores, too.

There's an enormous difference between, you can plug in a controller and have it work, which is true of virtually any game, and, the game is designed to make it so that you're not completely crippled if you try to play it on a gamepad, which is untrue of most MMORPGs.
So the game having loads of targeted spells and more manuveurbility is dumbing itself down for controller support? Yeah, that makes perfect sense right there.
I think you are missing the point. Saying a game is technologically advanced because it can be played on a controller makes no sense. You could dumb down any game and make it playable on a controller. I'm not saying they specifically dumbed down GW2 to be played on a controller, you would have to ask the developers if they specifically limited things to make it on a controller or not so there is no way to know.
It is the concept behind combining 'playable on a controller' and 'technologically advanced' that makes no sense at all. A controller is a technological step back from the way most games are played on the PC, not an advancement.
If new MMO's start being designed specifically so they can be played on your iphone or specifically usable with a controller etc it would be a major setback for MMO's, not a technological leap.

Way to point out the obvious. Obviously it'd be a setback if they were designed specifically for iphone usage. Or even controller usage. But GW2 is not built specifically for the controller. It's just an option. That was his point. There is nothing wrong with adding controller cabailities to a PC game as long as it works without taking out certain aspects of the game.

Gaile Gray has indicated the game will support DirectX 10, but not require it to play. Guild Wars 2 will use the Havok physics engine and occlusion culling technology licensed from Umbra Software.
From Guildwars wiki, so there are some words about it. But they are rather old, they might have scrapped it, changed to Dx 11 or scrapped the entire thing. I have heard nothing recent and this is from before x 11 was even released.
Why are people talking about GW2 being playable on Iphones (or on consoles for that matter)? All Anet said was that certain functions like chat and crafting could be available on mobile machines and the internet. GW2 will ONLY be playable on PC's as far as we know.
I wouldn't automatically conclude that GW2 is the most technologically advanced MMORPG based upon the OP, but it's certainly one that embraces all kinds of technology and tools more enthusiastically and openminded than is done in other MMORPG's: support for 3D, iPhone applets and controllers all points towards GW2 having the widest technological scope.
As for actual technology and its level with GW2 compared to other MMO's:
for those that played GW, we've seen some promising examples.
- GW was 1 world, not a community split in servers. You could team up with friends no matter whether they were from the US regions or Asian regions, if they had GW then you could team up.
- GW had background streaming patches. That meant no server downtime for maintenance or patches. In fact, in all those 6 years GW has hardly experienced any downtime at all. I think no other MMORPG can make that claim.
- the guys that created Battle.net were the same ones that helped build GW's network infrastructure.
As for GW2, ANet people have stated that GW will use an upgraded version of the technology theyve been using for GW.
They claimed that a lot of their plans, like the massive world vs world pvp and the low cost for server management and therefore the ability to offer subless gaming, was possible because of advances and refinements they'd implemented in their network infrastructure and technology.
One thing I've read them stated was that you'll be able to hop from world (server) to world (server) with no problems to visit and play with your friends. In other MMORPG's that means you have to pay for a server transfer. Not so in GW2.

You people are sure biased concerning the PC industry, and how using a controller is making games dumbed down. You guys do realize that the PC industry is a small part of the gaming industry, and that console gaming makes way more money for the industry than the PC? So how does adding control support for those that like it make the game easier, or more for stupid people like you guys said (of course you guys said it more political correct)? Are you saying that all game developers that make a console game are dumber then people who make PC games and the people who play it are stupid? I am will to bet that if all 30 million people that are on X-box live took IQ test, some of them would beat you! So how about we drop the bias, just because it is your favorite part of the gaming industry does not make it better than the other.
And just for the recorded I prefer PC games, but I will not ever consider console gaming dumber, because I like the PC. Some people like controllers and some like the keyboard, that does not mean one is smart and one is dumb. Technology wise they are equals, one is no more advanced than the other, and they are just two different play styles. So a controller is not a setback, and a mouse and keyboard is not a step forward, besides for people that are extremely biased and cannot see beyond their own play style.
I wouldn't say GW2 is the most tech advanced MMO on the horizon, because all game tech is pretty much the same nowadays. I do think that they are making good use of their technology and trying to present the game with much more updated fill that GW. GW is almost 8 years old now or something like that and it still runs smooth and as butter has crisper graphics than many MMOs that came after it so I can only imagine that GW2 will have the same kinda technological prowess as its predecessor and then some. I'm sure we'll all look back a few years now and still compare newer titles to GW2.
So the game having loads of targeted spells and more manuveurbility is dumbing itself down for controller support? Yeah, that makes perfect sense right there.

To make a PC game playable on a console, you need to strip out some things. Controllers simply don't have the vast array of options that any standard mouse/kb set up would have. For a PC game to be played with a controller, those options need to be limited to what a controller would be able to handle. Not to mention, controllers are sluggish when compared to mouse/kb. They cannot traverse anywhere near as quickly so targetting is much harder. To make up for that, console games must either slow down the action to allow controllers a chance to keep up with it, or they must use assisted targeting. For instance, measure the time it takes to scroll 360 degrees with controller, then do that with a mouse. See the difference?
Dumbing down doesn't have anything to do with IQ. It has everything to do with simplifying a game to match interface limitations. And when compared together, controllers are far more limited that mouse/kbs.
Which isn't to say that I mind controller support being added to GW2. I know they won't choose a lowest common denominator approach and simplify the entire game to allow controllers to keep pace with mouse/kb users, so controller users are just going ot have to keep up. To me, that amounts to bushels of free PvP kills. A special thank you to all the willing victims (controller users) out there who will be contributing to padding my kill counts. I fully support your decision to play the game with one-hand tied behind your back.
At the end of the first video, there is an interview where one of the arenanet staff talks about how GW2 will be playable with console controllers and it will be playable in 3D.
From an earlier post we learned that GW2 can be used on portable devices. You can chat to guild mates and do other minor things to still be apart of the game while not actually being at your computer to play it.
If you know of any other sort of way GW2 will branch out to other devices or incorporate new technologies, please comment!
It's a bit extreme statement, to just call GW2 the most advanced MMO in the thread title.
I would love to read some articles about their server technology, the engine and such, but let's be honest. If you look at GW2 it looks like a more high rez version of GW1. They are relying on their art design to drive the technology.
I think it's a good thing. It should mean that making armors, models and such should take less time, than if it had the detail and quality of TERA or Blade and Soul. Imagine how long it must take to make a simple weapon in those games due to the incredible graphics.
GW2 looks great but it's because of the art. I hope it means we can have lots of people on screen without dragging down the servers, as well as having a long draw distance to add to immersion.

Those are renderes right? I do not believe the in-game characters are like that.
The in-game trailers show lots of textures that are so-so, but as I said it's a good game. Being a super hardcore visually stunning technical game creates problems. It was the right choice to boost their visuals through their art. We all know how amazing their art team is.

Personally, I think they need the crosshair aiming controller format from DCUO w/ a slight touch of console style auto-aim in order to compete.
I've seen shadowrun controller players perform as well as their KB/M counterparts in matches because of that.
If it's not implemented this way, Anet can forget about it IMHO.

Going to buy my iphone 4 tomorrow!!!!
Lesser detail and quality?
