Philippe G.H. Capron servers is on the Board of Directors for Activision | Blizzard and he is also on the Supervisory Board for NBC Universal.
Jean-Bernard Levy is also on the Board of Directors for Activision | Blizzard amd is also on the Supervisory Board for NBC Universal.
There where serveral of the people on the Activision | Blizzard Board of Directors that where part of Bertelsmann Digital Media Investments and that company is a key funding member of Trion Worlds. Not as big as NBC Universal though.
Also seeing as how SyFy is 80% owned by NBC Universal it would seem NBC has a huge stake in Trion Worlds. Makes me wander just how much of the company they own.
Whats funny is Vivendi owns a 12% stake in NBC Universal.
So there is diffently money flowing from the same people into Trion from companys that also have key members of people in Activison | Blizzard. So while they may not be connected directly as in A|B giving them money and owning part of Trion. In a non direct sense one could say thats kinda whats happening.
As far as why would Blizzard want another MMO to come along? Well Blizzard knows that World of Warcraft is not going to be around forever. If they can / could be a key member in what new game that does pull away some of the player base then how would that not make sense? They can only continue to graphicaly improve World of Warcraft so much before the cost outweighs the gain from it. So they know its going to faulter at some point. If something they have a connection with pulls in the people at that point then how is it not a win - win for Blizzard / A|B?
