Stop with the OMG statements about aspects of this game that the developers never said would be there in the first place, including the pre-cu Star War Galaxies style combat and crafting and skill / class system and space simulator.

You might want to take a look at the swtor website and read the FAQ.  They're claiming several "key innovations", but as far as I can tell I'm not seeing any. FYI- Story is not an innovation, neither are voiceovers.

So they're telling us this is a next gen game with new innovations that separate them from every other MMO out there (WoW), but in reality they're just giving us a reskinned WoW in space. This is called being bamboozled.

If you're fine with playing a refurbished WoW in space then I guess swtor is for you. However, I think gamers should demand more from developers, especially when we're talking about mmos and the epic time investment for players that comes along with them.

How does Star Wars: The Old Republic differ from other MMO titles?

Star Wars: The Old Republic will be similar to other MMOs but with several key innovations. Traditionally MMOs are built on three pillars; Exploration, Combat, and Progression. We at BioWare and LucasArts believe there is a fourth pillar: Story. Our mission is to create the best story-driven games in the world. We believe that the compelling, interactive storylines in Star Wars: The Old Republic are a significant innovation to MMOs and will offer an entertainment experience unlike any other.

If you don't think what they are doing to the story aspects of SWTOR are innovative in the MMO genre, then I dare say you haven't played many MMOs, or know nothing about the system they are putting in place.

What's new? We already knew that SWTOR would have a lot in common with WoW and other themepark MMORPG's. It seems like the OP wanted to emphasize that. Shrug.

    QFT!!

Since their site opened and the first few dev interviews about SWTOR, they have said they were ideas from WoW.

That and their main addition is STORY

No one ever expected SWTOR to be SWG2.0 >.<  I mean...Im pretty sure I read countess articles about how SWTOR wont be anything like pre NGE SWG.

As someone who likes WOW, my view has been: If I had to grind for gear as a dwarf/elf or a mandalorian Bounty Hunter, I'd choose the latter in a heartbeat.

So I don't really care if the combat is WOWesk, I'll be playing for the awesome bioware story and, hell, It's Star Wars, that alone would make me spend the 50 bucks.

I have to agree as well.  Although I am purposely keeping my excitement down since we still do not have a release date, I am still looking forward to a good story based MMO in a scifi setting instead of fantasy.  Add to that a good art style, much better animations, and overall much better graphics . . . and . . . well WoW looses in my book.  Add to that the Star Wars aspect and I am very happy about this game, after all, I actually saw the first movie as a toddler and loved the "story" ever since.

Story, fully voiced over and the chance to completely change the outcome of quests along with the companion system and possibly crafting are pretty much key innovations over the traditional MMO.
