I am noticing a lot of people going back to WoW. 5 people I know who pre-ordered and played Rift to 50 are going back to WoW. 2 guilds I know are going back to WoW and a 3rd smaller guild is going to Xsyon. This is about 40 players total that I know myself. I am curious to see how many people here are staying past the first month.

Almost everybody I know in game hasn't even looked back. Starting the 30th they are having a week long world event with unique drops and gear, plus adding new content. I'm not going anywhere.
I don't understand your poll. Yes (Yes I am leaving rift) No (No I am not leaving rift) (Staying after 30 days) (No I am not leaving rift). You have two of the same.
Is this a follow on to the last thread called "Who's staying past the 1st 30 days?"
Maybe you guys can get together and do a presentation or something.
There is NO miracle patch.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy.

I left already... Although I dont play WoW. In general, Im tired of themeparks as they are now.
This is one of the best MMORPG's I have played, the devs are responsive and I love the coin lock idea (if Aion had this type of inovation, my GF and I would have played longer). I am staying.
EQ next is SOE (that says enough).
I betaed GW1 and it never was a game for me so GW2 is not drawing me.
I'm not that in to Star Wars (due to the "Vader 90201" prequels).
The Secret World is no where neer ready to being out.
Same had a few friend old legion/guild mates from WoW/AION/and some F2P games i played and each one of them are still playing, almost all of them higher lvls then myself.. I'd be playing a lot more if it wasn't for work but im still havin a blast.. I'll be stickin with Rift until SWTOR, i can already see that.. Trion is a great company and i'd love to support them.
Currently Playing:
Rift + Starcraft II + Gears Of War 3 Beta
I bought rift.. got to level 40 and already bored out of my mind.. I really want to like it.. i keep logging in and trying to get into my character.. but Idk. its an awesome game I think the soul system kills it for me.. its a cool idea just too generic for me. anyone can at anytime be anybuild.. i for sure am not going back to wow..
Playing xsyon atm.. and loving it. I prefered the graphics of Rift but for some reason xsyon has pulled me in and I get completely immersed..
Another topic about the same... "topic"... How many times I have to answer "I WILL STAY IN RIFT until a new mmo comes that promises more than what we have at the moment"?
- "You don't have to answer them all"
I know... still can't avoid when these things pop-on randomly and just click 2 buttons to cast my vote.

I guess you could say that Rift is the 'wow killer' for me. I'm going to keep playing at least until TOR comes out...
Level 24, here. Loving it. The thought of going back to WoW makes me want to throw up!
You must know 40 weird people. My guild is growing, and my friends guild on a different server that came from WoW is still growing. And why would all these people go back to a 6+ year old game that offers nothing else? Maybe they couldn't hack Rift? Surely, I am not saying its the best game ever but your story sounds a bit suspect.
I'm not leaving at the moment.
I'm still working my way towards 50 and my impression is that the game is still gathering momentum. I've got a decent guild and we're inviting new members every day. I am enjoying a lot about the game, but the constant quest grind is frustrating me a little. I'll see what the end game is like, but I don't see myself going anywhere until SWTOR releases.
I'm having fun with Rift, playing with the soul system on all four class types. Im not rushing to end game but I can see that at some point I will tire of the game. I just hope that point is after some of the other big named games coming on the horizon are released. Im just really hoping SWTOR or Guildwars are as good as they are being talked up as being.
I did preorder Xyson (got a refund) wanting something different than the WoW-War-Rift themeparks I have been playng the last few years, but alas, Xyson is not playable currently and by the time it will be a handful of big tribes and experienceed players will control the game and the resources, making it a rough experience for new players/tribes.
I got bored of it already.. I'm completely bored of games like this.. I had fun during beta and headstart. but, beta pretty much did it for me, I've played rift since beta 1, and I'm just completely burnt out.
Quit recently.
Why put in so much time in a new game ? when i have 4-5 years in WoW .. when they are like the same thing? .. I dunno, didn't see a reason too!
But other then that, Rift was fun, maybe get some time cards down the line ... but right now, its not worth it to me.
PS - All mammals have nipples.
Get over it already.
....I would say that you are having fun! According to your xfire signature you put in 52 hours of Rift in the past week! That's a full time job my friend
I unfortunately already quit Rift. I got into the beta early, so I knew what I was getting into, just got bored extremely fast. I had some real life friends that bailed on me too, deciding not to get the game, of course after the game launched, so no refund for me. No biggie. It's a fun game, just not for me.
Lets see. The game has been out for the initial month. They implement a 'fully dynamic' world event which just so happens to coincide with the first week of the 2nd month, meaning they will 'force' ppl to sub another month to see it. instead of icluding it in the free month.
I wonder if this will be a common occurance to try and keep subs.
lol yeah, spring break at school and slow at work = too much time on computer.
I think it'll become a more and more common theme with new launching MMORPG's, having an event or special update every month after launch with an announcement of special content update or added feature within 2 months, to give more incentives for people to stick around for another month subbed, and maybe even 3 month subbed giving you a special item.
All kinds of things that'll be used to keep the retention rate high without any mega dips in it.
Except for GW2 maybe, because it doesn't need subs; I except GW2 however to get quicker expansions as revenue boost, just as with GW that had 2 major expansions as big as the original game itself within 1.5 year.

Turbine does the same stuff with LOTRO to try and reduce the mass exodus of players every so often.

Turbine is different. What they are doing is a total redesign of areas. All the starting areas, and now mid level zones like evendim got a rework. Meanwhile the end game folks get the middle finger square in the face. Its called in with the new out with the old. Turbine is trying to retain the free to play while shedding the vip folks who are at level cap. however looks like rift is trying to put stuff out going hey look at what is coming. Both are gimmicks to try and keep retention.
I hope it does, but imho they should put half the event in the previous month and half in the next. Not force people to pay a full months sub to try out content they might not even like. Especially when the devs are saying to check it out.
By challenging you mean tedious? Blizzard has made things more accessible (not to be confusd with easier) and same with Trion why is that such a bad thing?Sure if you think it is fun to run instance just to talk to your enchantment trainer you should go back and re sub to UO.
If developers start releasing new events and content at the end of the first month on a regular basis, the genre has a bright future.
