Definitely going to be leaving. Probably not immediately after the first month, but before 6 months are up. And patch 1.1 is going a long way towards pushing me away. They're already falling into the same trap as WoW, first patch. And most likely it will only get worse. Also, there's nothing compelling in the game to keep me around anyway. But I'll probably keep playing until GW2 comes out, unless they do even worse in the next patch.

For starters, the fact that they nerfed things that didn't need to be nerfed and didn't touch the single, biggest, most overpowered bug currently in the game.
Dozen or so people I know from wow have canceled their wow subs. Not looking back. Wow is so boring right now there's no reason to play.
I certainly can't disagree there. Been bored with WoW for quite some time now: dropped my subscription long ago (way before Rift).
But my problem is I haven't found another MMO that is at its core any less boring. I've played enough of MMOs in my time to not be impressed simply by a different wrapper around the same old same old. But I'm an old-timer and probably more jaded than many here.
But being an old-timer, I know that as genres get stale innovations do happen. I've witnessed many in my day. I'm still waiting for the MMO space to be reinvigorated: it WILL happen someday. But for me that day isn't today and most likely not this year either looking at the horizon...
I think I fall into the exact same boat here, but after one fail after another trying to find something else besides the big elephant in the room called "WoW"; I'm starting to lose my faith in the MMORPG genre as a whole. Perhaps this is the end of the genre as we know it.
"I'm still waiting for the MMO space to be reinvigorated". Well, I bet there's still some people out there still holding their breath waiting for the text based MUD space to be reinvigorated. I bet their faces are turning pretty blue at this point!
Perhaps in this disposalble society "instant gratification" and "gimmegimmegimme" we live in today, the MMORPG as we all know it will just degenerate into a 3D chatroom glorified FaceCrook complete with a lobby for instanced mini-games.
Actually the reinvigoration of the text based MUD was the graphical MUD aka MMO. Not sure what will reinvigorate MMOs, and it might look very different from today's MMOs. There were many revolutions, and it might be interesting to map the geneaology of all of today's popular genres and the various evolutions/revolutions. RTS genre. FPS genre, MMO genre. Etc. They all took 20-30 years to get where they are today, and all have gone through periods of stagnation, only to resurface in a different form or merge ideas from other genres.
There are also graphical revolutions, which are still underway. Text -> Picture-based -> 2DGraphics -> 2D/3D Isometric -> 1st-person 3D -> True 3D -> Surround Graphics (future)
Then there are various gameplay revolutions, which often are simply the merging of ideas from different genres to create something fresh and unique. For instance the incorporation of RPG elements into FPS games.
As I've said before, if somebody somehow figured out how to merge my 4 favorite genres: FPS+TBS+MMO+Roguelike (e.g., CoD+Civ4+WoW+StoneSoup) that would probably make my head explode...

Ok I really wanted to like Rift, honestly. I was going to stick it out because I wanted to support the developer. But I'm simply too bored. It's the same formula I've been playing the last 5+ years, and it's just not unique or innovative enough to keep me interested. Levels 12-20 was mad fun. It was different, I loved running around the zone mixing up questing and rifting, back and forth, grouping up in Argent for the invasions, running back to quests (liked Overwatch Keep alot), more rifts, etc. But towards the end of Gloamwood and beyond it was just zzzzzzzzz to me.
I feel homeless in the MMO world. Not going back to WoW, because the WoW I knew and loved doesn't exist anymore (not saying it's bad just not for me anymore). Messing around with Vanguard to pass the time until SWToR or GW2. Considering checking out Xsyon but though I may be patient as far as puzzle-solving and progression go, extended periods of lag make me want to punch my monitor. Maybe when it's stabilized. Might check out Mortal Online too, sounds interesting.
I have decided to cancel rift. I think it has to do more with me being tired of playing fantasy quest based mmo's more then the actual game. (I have not played WOW in years, since MC was a big deal, so no i am not planning on going back) All in all it is not a bad game, i just do not want to spend all my time farmnig instances, and que'ing for pvp. The idea of rift invasion just did not do it for me, they seemed bland and w/o consquence, if you fauiled to beat it no worries it all resets in an hour. With no open dungeons and no new area to explore at 50 (with a very shallow leveling curve) i got bored very quickly.
That being said the game was worth $50 but not the sub. I guess i am back to waiting on GW2 and seeing how they handle dynamic content.
I'm not going to play WoW instead though, I quickly discovered that I'm burnt out from EQ type of games after playing Rift for a few days.
Rift is definately a well made game, and I can see why alot of people enjoy it, I just need a serious break and figured that waiting for SWTOR was the right thing to do for me, so I won't burn myself out completely, plus I won't be playing a ranger/hunter, but a trooper in heavy armor with a big laser rifle
All power to Rift though, I thought it was better than WoW is now, and I honestly feel abit sorry for the people who decides to go back to WoW, if anything WoW needs to learn from Rift right now, and especially their dev team, which are listening and not trying to tell everyone what fun is, when Cata is obviously a terrible excuse for an expansion, the Rift dev team are really up for making their game have succes, while Blizzard is on autopilot, their game is a big hit and now they're just playing it safe and boring tbh.

Exactly, Blizzard definately on autopilot. In fact the only thing that was somewhat intriguing to me was the whole Path of the Titans concept, which they ended up cancelling. Even that wouldn't have been enough, but they didn't even try it.
I think the next excitement in the MMO genre, at least for me, will be the top-end FPS MMOs on the way: the rumored one from Bungie and the rumored one based on CoD. In my opinion the creators of arguably the two best franchises in terms of fluid PVP action, if they can work in some deeper MMORPG complexity , would really be able to shake up the MMO formula...

A lot of people i see quitting are quitting because they are tired of quest based and themepark MMO's.. Hah, i guess i'am really lucky as the majority of my MMO time has been spent playing EvE Online and various non-conventional F2P games.. Besides the half a year i spent playing AION, the 1month i spent playing WoW, and 2 weeks i spent playing FE i don't really have much experience with theme park MMO's as i do sandbox ones..
This just feels "new" to me.. Not to mention this is the FIRST time i've played a game with Battle Grounds since WoW (and its been almost a year since i played WoW.) Am actually having fun with them.. Quests are a litte tedious but besides that TO ME it all feels fresh.. Guess ill have a better surviveing chance with Rift then others will lol

Almost everybody I know in game hasn't even looked back. Starting the 30th they are having a week long world event with unique drops and gear, plus adding new content. I'm not going anywhere.
Talk about an attempt to keep people staying...
"Just after the end of the 30 "free" days, we start an AWESOME event! Pay to stay so you can see it".
Nice try. But I'm still not staying.

Well, 15 years of online gaming have told me one thing: The most rabied fanboy of a game can turn into a ragequitter from day 44 to day 45.
During the first 30 to 60 days, not one single 'game testament' can be taken seriously. Some people already quit earlier because they're jaded or disappointed by something in particular (I Know people who quit rift because it had no barber, not kidding, 100% honest)... but that won't reflect the general tendency, exactly like sporadic fans staying because of one particular thing (like public invasions e.g.) don't make any statement on the general quality and retention strength of the game.
To all the people doing this honeymoonesque-pro-rift-raving: I'm sorry but I'm not taking you seriously until 90 days from now. When your mains are all 50 and your gear is all shiny, you've seen all zones and got in fights over loot; THEN, and only then we're talking about retention and how good this game actually is.

EDIT: and oh: One more thing, that's why I think game reviews mean nothing when released 10 days after a game goes live; Every game on the market is fun while leveling, except some small market segment of pay to win asia grinders.
that crap is becoming a nerfbat fest.. not gonna stay aorund to watch them burying the rest of the game.
was pretty nice at start tho.
Well, good luck finding a game that doesn't nerf FOTM classes. And when magehealers are preferred over real healers and dps-mages are basically freekills no matter the playerskill, well, you know...

Honestly I'm bored. the PvE endgame is more work than I want to put in, and the PvP endgame is torture.
I got to 50 and will be ready to come back when the game is ready to offer more.
Too each their own, but I've had more success in Rift endgame than I ever had in WoW. I've been able to get tier 1 gear pretty quickly, there is a TON of stuff to do from Rifts, invasions, artifacts, pvp, experts, weekly raids, crafting. I'm in a good guild, this helps immensely, but I just find it easier to get into the action, for the most part. A single server dungeon finder will even increase this.
In WoW I always had issues finding a party due to the over abundance of DPS classes. In rift, I have 4 roles I can switch to on the fly, DPS, healer, Support, PVP. Making joining a party less of a hassle. Plus with open world expert Rifts and tons of gear rewards from collections, puzzles, pvp, and crafting it is far easier to gear up and enjoy the endgame then in WoW. But that's just me.
Too all the "I'm bored" posts, its YOU not the game. Take a break. If I were to watch 8 years of an Emergency Room medical show and then move to another 8 years of a similar but with a twist Emergency Room medical and so on, I'd be bored to. Doesn't mean the shows themselves are bad or boring. It means I need a break from that type of show. (Funny how this is actually a REAL analogy. Look at ER, Grey's Anatomy, House, and so on.)
I didn't like rift all that much to begin with, the starting area just didn't float my boat. However as I've moved through the zones I'm enjoying myself more and more and the instances are not overly long or hard which is perfect for me as I like to think of myself as sorta casual.
I also find it much easier to play a few hours one day and leave it a couple of days and come back, I don't feel like I need to be logging on every single day in case I miss something, which is what I've been looking for really, might sound weird but it works for me.
I'm only level 30 however so things may change as I progress, we'll see...

If the game can't keep me entertained for longer than 2 weeks, then it is so. I don't need a 50 main to prove to myself (Or anyone else) that I find the game boring.
Now, if I were to review the game, then you'd have a point, but Im not (Or the majority in this thread for that matter).
Yes it is boring like hell now. I have 47 lev rogue now and just stoped with playing. Pvp is so bad and remembers me on fast paced chicken run pvp from EQ2. And story, where is the story with ingame movies?? And lands are only few. Man i am so angry i wasted money on this game. Thanks gods black prophecy is free and i cant stop playing that wing commander style game:)
Well, judging from your post history, your issue isn't with RIFT at all..it's with the Fantasy MMO genre:
In a thread about SWTOR, you said:
"Please start with that game!!!!! I cant watch anymore elfs, dwarfs and all this creatures from fantasy worlds."
I bought Rift, played it for two weeks and canceled my auto-subbing account. First of all, I came back to WOW in January and the last time I played, it was Vanilla. So at this point in my WOW experience, going to Rift was kind of like deciding to go to the parking-lot carnival at the mall rather than to Cedar Point. As a "new" WOW player, I cant really understand how anyone could say Rift was better.
Since I plunked down $50, I will probably visit Telera again once I'm truly bored with WOW...but considering the tons of Race/Profession combos still to go, I doubt that will be very soon. In fact, that is where Blizzard has the upperhand. Every new player in Azeroth has years of content ahead of them...compared to Rift...
I decided rather than a second MMO to start playing The Witcher: Enhanced in anticipation for the second one thats about to be released. In fact, that is what I suggest to anyone bored of MMO's in general..start playing some single player RPGS.
Too all the "I'm bored" posts, its YOU not the game. Take a break. If I were to watch 8 years of an Emergency Room medical show and then move to another 8 years of a similar but with a twist Emergency Room medical and so on, I'd be bored to. Yeah...I think you are partially correct. I am definitely bored of the:
linear questing
instanced battlegrounds with non-changing maps that represent the majority of PvP
reputation grind in the form of "dailies"
boring, unimaginative one-click crafting
grinding the same end-game dungeons to get better gear to grind the same end-game dungeons in heroic mode
If these were just better disguised even, so I wasn't aware I was being led around by the nose, I wouldn't be so bored. But when developers don't even TRY to enhance these it's like they are saying "Well here's the basic MMO. You know what to do." And then I feel like a job lay before me, not an adventure.
Edit: Anyway, sorry to derail the thread with my QQ
Comments
I personally got bored in less than a week and will likely never play it again.
It's pretty boring, its the same game as WoW.

That pretty much sums it up for me. You can call me old and jaded but I would rather think of it as experienced and realistic.
If the game can't keep me entertained for longer than 2 weeks, then it is so. I don't need a 50 main to prove to myself (Or anyone else) that I find the game boring.
Now, if I were to review the game, then you'd have a point, but Im not (Or the majority in this thread for that matter).
Not this guy, I'm having a great time!
