Up until now the class system has been perfect, it makes sense, each class is unique in it's own different way with it's special abilities an traits which blend in perfectly with the environment strategy combat system which is also pretty original and innovating, I don't think the next class would be the MEsmer, I mean, it doesn't actually make snese unless they do some *Cough" slight changes in the Mesmer mechanics, Mesmers have control over mind, it seems a little pointless putting a Mesmer in GW2 with only that ability... I think Anet is aiming for something bigger... Like, a class being able to provide control over the minds of enemies but also using the environment as a weapon, but it still seems a bit generic... I dunno... It just doesn't cut it...
Who knows exactly what the new and improved Mesmer will sport as far as skill mechanics, but I do hope it still involves turning your enemy's actions against them in some way. I know interrupts are out, but there were plenty of other diabolical skills from the Domination line that can rain on an opponent's parade. Whatever it is, I hope it requires a great deal of finesse and stuns us all with dazzling pink effects.
I predict that the final two classes will be Alchemist & Mesmer.
An alchemist is more fitting than an Engineer from a lore perspective. The recent lore blog post about Hylek on Arenanet's blog also states:
Many alchemists of more civilized races acquire hylek “apprentices” so that they can exchange knowledge for knowledge, learning as much as they can.
And from their crafting blog we know that Alchemy isn't one of the crafting skills, so my guess is a potion drinking, bomb making, rifle wielding alchemist!
The other profession is Mesmer, because the class is mentioned in the novel.

Who says that interrupts are out? We know that mechanically that interrupts don't exist, but there are ways to interrupt people asides from that. Like the Daze condition, or knock downs.
As for the name of the guns but no bows class, engineer would a cop-out name. Sapper is a much better name for exactly the same thing; or Tactician.
Alchemist is an interesting idea, and I've been pondering about it too since the hylek reveal. Alchemy in the sense that is used for GW lore (potion making) is not a combat profession. But it can be integrated into a sapper type profession... poison bombs, traps.
Also, there is the mention of the chiurgeon in the books. Although we know that there isn't a dedicated healer, medical devices could be a cool profession feature.
So my thoughts are, a gun-wielding, poison making, medical device using, saboteur profession whose profession mechanic is the creation of environmental weapons.
During the Pax East Panel they mentioned that the Thief is the most complex class to date, with the implication that the last two classes will be more complex mechanically. That being said, the Mesmer fits the bill for all intents and purposes as one of the final classes. It will have likely gone through lots of iteration and evolution from what is known by GW1 standards and I can see them possessing a roguish spellcaster quality. I could seem them using all manner of light weapon; dagger, sword, sceptor, focus and pistol. Even to the point of having the fan as an exclusive weapon, and dualwielding them at that.
As to the other profession, I could see an "Artificer" inspired character. A blending of magic, tech, alchemy and adventure. Not quite steampunk, not quite techno-magic. Think guns, gadgets, glow and goo, with abilities focused on augmenting weapons and the battlefield in an offensive way.
These two would offer up the last of the 2 major playstyles, i.e. the negator (Mesmer) and the enhancer.
Betting my money (3 cents!) on the Mesmer (very obvious, even has concept art), and a Tactician (Paragon type abilities along with heavy/support weapons, perhaps deployable things).
I just want a monk... *sniffles* Is that too much to ask?
Never quite understood the appeal of a monk.
What defines the monk? Lore that they sit atop mountains and meditate? Not bothering with the concerns of the world but rather personal enlightenment? Fighting in that they are mere martial artists? Swordmanship is a martial art, so it has to be something different. Mere use of fists and feet instead of weapons then? Or is it just the look? Robes, shaved head maybe, asian style wear? Surely you wouldnt mean the western and russian style monk which look more like a pope or friar.
I think there are a lot of good reasons not to go with a monk class, if those are the reasons above. There are usually better more customizable alternatives such as clerics, priests or rogues with martial art focuses.

Just my opinion though.
I think he was referring to the monk from the original Guild Wars which was a healer.
I don't see how anyone who has been following the devolopments of GW2 couldn't assume that the human (or norn) woman is a Mesmer. That would be the returning profession the devs have talked about.
As for the other profession, I agree with the engineer type assessment. Something like a sapper - bombs, mines, lots of AoE with some guns thrown in for good measure. That's what I'd like to see anyway.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???
it;s not gonna be a mesmer per se, i think they denied that in some interview. but it;s gonna be something similar. we know that the thief is the most "complex" class currently, but not the most complex of the ones to come according to some hints dropped in the PAX interview.
- the female silhouettte is some sort of controller type for sure; if it's a mesmer, it will go ignored by me because it's such a lame concept. i hope they dont have illusions in the game.
- the large figure on the left - i hope it's a druid or shaman, something along those lines. it's gonna be a medium armor class
- we know that one or both of these will be more complex than the thief
What about other GW1 profs, like Dervish, or Paragon? why are these not speculated? Seemd more likely as ALL the others are based on GW1 classes so far.
it wont be the mesmer. it may be a class with some similar elements. if you understand the GW2 philosphy, you'll know that a controller type class doesnt fit into the current scheme of things. check it out, each class is well rounded; everyone does a bit of melee, has escapes, long range attacks, buffs and debuffs. no class has significant CC's thus far. a CC based class simply doesnt fit into GW2.
i would very much enjoy playing an alchemist/engineer as a bunch of u mentioned...thatd be sick. looking at the silhouette more closely, it does seem like the Skar (O.o ) is holding a rifle.
You're all wrong, it's going to be Gold Farmer, and Globat Chat Troll. Kidding, just kidding. If Arenanet can exterminate these two from its' game, I'll play it for that reason alone.
I'm not predicting, just hoping for Engineer, and Mezmer-Monk.
So far, Anet has revealed 6 classes, 3 melee and 3 ranged. Although the melee classes can use ranged weapons, they will probably be more effective at melee range, probably except for the thief.
Anyway, here is my prediction of the last 2 classes. The first is a mesmer. First of all, a mesmer is a purely Guild Wars class. Secondly, we have seen mesmer concept art and Anet said that a GW class will be making a comeback. The other class is a bit harder to guess but I'm going to go with some sort of a hand-to-hand combat specialist. A brawler or a martial artist maybe.
Im not sure why people keep thinking Engineer? What is that profession supposed to do? Asura race already have the golems and other professions already have guns. So what would the Engineer be about?
A domination magic line Mesmer would bring something new to the table. Hurting others for using skills/spells. Unless the necromancer already has abilities from GW1 curses line. But so far I only saw Blood magic and Death magic line abilities.
EDIT: Warrior will just be effective with rifle as with melee weapons. They specifically changed the attribute system so that a profession can use any weapon effectively if their profession can use it.

Not just any martial art. Kung Fu! Thats what I want. A non-weapon fighter. But I know it'll never happen because anet didnt listen during GW1.
Also. I think the new mesmer class will be able tor:
a) be able to do real mind control and make enemies fight for them for a while (like in city of heroes)
b) be about hold enemies keeping them from attacking
c) do magic that wouldnt make sense for an elementalist or necro. like lifting enemies in the air with their mind, or summoning illusions that do stuff.
as fo the other class, I guess it'll be some kind of tech class. But I could see the mesmer using pistols and rifles. Look at the way they dress. They certainly wouldnt use bows dressed like that. So maybe it will be some sort of fist fighter that just focuses on pure melee dmg, but thats just wishful thinking.
Maybe it will be a summoner class. Hopefully not a spiritualist. Summoning uninteresting looking things that stand in one spot is kind of lame.
What about other GW1 profs, like Dervish, or Paragon? why are these not speculated? Seemd more likely as ALL the others are based on GW1 classes so far.
There are a few simple reason for that. Anet gave lore for the Guardian which stated that the Guardian is an evolution of the Paragon. Further more, the Dervish is directly tied to the human gods, the other races don't believe in them or at least don't believe they are gods. And also, the majority of the both the Paragon and Dervish playstyle seems to be part of the Guardian (and in the case of the Paragon, also part of the Warrior as seen in Banners and Shouts).

Agreed. Dervisher will probably come into the games when they add Elona, but then only for Elona races. It wont be in from launch.
Mesmer and Swashbuckler/Pirate/Musketeer are the 2 last classes, but Mesmer will be somewhat changed with less CC and more interupts and combat abilities.
A Charr would look so cool in some kind of musketeer outfit.

There HAS to be mesmers! Didn't Gwen end up as a mesmer (even though she healed in pre?)

O and Mesmer does NOT = illusions. Illusions are just one of the trees. A mesmer can have NO illusions.

One of the two remaining professions is the mesmer and the other is something completely new - an engineer type is probably a good guess.
GW2 MESMER
