An MMO is born here!

Hello Everyone!

This is very simple. I am gathering ideas for a next gen MMO and have decided to use this means as what players would like to have, or like to see. Obviously this will be a game that does not come out for atleast 4-5 years. We are trying something new here though (Company is not to be named due to the amount of backlash) and are putting the next gen game in your hands! There will be a couple polls in different posts and you can simply check what you like or make a comment on something not listed.

Your names will be kept on record for beta testing in the future once we get to that stage. Thanks to everyone in advance!

I'll edit the post once the other polls are up so nobody has to search for them.

The type does not matter to me in any way near how much gameplay matters. For this reason I cannot vote, although you can pull one off medieval/fantasy, as that has been seen so many times already and something different would be nice. I wouldn't cry over a game with a medieval/fantasy setting though, as long as the gameplay is awesome.

Can you elaborate here please? What exactly is the difference between Futuristic and Sci Fi? They are both very broad, often overlapping labels. And the same for Fantasy and Medieval Fantasy (most fantasy settings are based on Medieval-era history).

    Always read the small print.

I agree with you completely Acid, although in order to have gameplay one must first know what type of game to play :)

Sci-Fi is like star trek, Futuristic is more like, "The year is 3114 and the new era of mankind has evolved"

Fantasy and midevil fantasy are very close and can overlap, you'll just have to use your best of judgement here for now.

Hmm.. In that case I would like you to elobrate on what exactly FPS/3PS is. I mean, that isn't really a theme rather than a playstyle, init?

Now that I come to think of it, a mixture of it all could be kinda interesting as well, if it could somehow make sence in practise.

What about 'Urban Fantasy' like 'The Secret World'?

    Are you from Starvault?

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

FP and 3P shooters are a style of gaming, but it also makes a theme because the worlds are built differently and the gamestyle is also very different. Ever tried to play World of Warcraft in 1st person? It sucks.

A mixture of all would be nice, but you would need a starting point like, vampire/warewolf -----> Fantasy ----> midevil and so on as xpacks. Having all of that at once would be very confusing for the casual and hardcore players.

The Secret World is a fantastic idea imo. That is a new field however and we will have to see about adding that possibility.

    Negative.

If only they could market and sell a Western MMO! haha, good idea though, I'll mark it and see what we come up with.

Well I voted for Horror, because it hasn't been done to death, and because I've been a fan of all things horror since I was a little girl.

But on deeper thought, horror relies heavily on tension. For a 90 minute movie that's fine, but I'm not sure you can sustain tension for hours and hours over many months in an MMO. Just food for thought.

Edit: Oh, btw, best of luck to you :>

You are right, the only way Horror would work well is to have a couple things. General dark theme for the game obvious, but having monthly content updates is the key, even bi monthly would be acceptable. As everyone knows the ability to do this and say we can do this are very different things. I like to keep options open however if we did do horror, it would be done the best way possible for everyone AKA it might not work lol

    Thank you :p

Absolutely. I'm sure you have some great ideas and I hope you get to bring them to fruition. I remember the first time I played Resident Evil, I thought it was well done and actually creepy! I love to get creeped out, I love ghosts and graveyards and gothic mansions, all that stuff. Would be great to see someone pull it off.

I remeber those days too! Its so much easier to do a horror game when it only has 15-20 hours of actual game play. We dont like easy here though :p. If it was easy nobody would play it, well, we could possibly sell it in asia. Well if the feedback is good enough on it, we will. And we are continued on keeping the actual gaming community involved in this project. We all were gamers at one point and mostly still are.

I want to see a MMO based on angels and demons affecting the prime material planes of earth. Angels take on human forms and demons as well. the goal is to blend in but affect normal players to become angelic or evil. it would have two layers of reality. the spirit realm, and the earth realms. both are on the same plane of the players view but like wow when you die and are a ghost they are seamles with each other.

The goal is to create armys of light or darkness for a final battle of armageddon. you could make the angels and demons NPC's that can only be seen by neutral players who are aligned with good or evil. players could choose to be good or evil and certain class abilitys open to them.

I have a word doc with so many ideas I have still never seen by any company that makes MMOs that it would boggle your mind.

I even figured out a way to do away with the holy trinity but that not for use here. Good luck with your MMO lets hope you choose the path of innovation not renovation.

How about you chose good or evil and you addect only 1 human? Instead of creating an army and micro managing, you pick one human walking around in the world (an NPC) and that person becomes bound to your spirit. Some combat will take place on earth (in the human you control) and some in the spirit realm? That would seem to work fairly well imo. this will be mentioned.

OP, you may want to refer to this poll instead

What genre would you like to see a MMORPG base on?

I did see that, but there is a lot there that wont actually work. I appreciate the info however there are only 160 votes on that poll and that person is doing it for a class it seems. (steampunk and cyberpunk are not a vaild theme for a nextgen MMO)

The three polls that are on here are not meant for a game that will come out today, tomorrow, or even in the next couple years. That is why they are so vague on what they are asking. Once these get further along they will become more specific like, should you have the ability to make yellow snow? (Most likely wont go to release)

i voted for horror mmorpg.... fantasy is just the most generic genre in mmorpg and its getting annoying that all devs only want to create fantasy mmos (and all do the same).... sci fi is going right after fantasy since tons of sci fis are just coming from nowhere and none are good enough to hold players with subscriptions and if its f2p its most of the time bad.... with exeption of EVE and hopefully SWTOR)... medieval fantasy dont sound too exiting. That genre sounds like mytheon, gods and heroes, etc.... not the best genre out there... horror sounds like a pretty interesting genre and theres almost none horror based mmorpg (Requiem could have been a great horror themed game but devs just were not too smart in terms of adding game content, in depth lore, mechanics and progression)

im really hoping to play someday a good and well developed horror mmorpg that really worth time, money, etc etc...

How did you come to that conclusion?  There are many that would say that the medievalfantasy genre are over done themes.  The table-top RPGs Cyberpunk 2020 and Shadowrun would both hold up as valid basises/inspirations for a next-gen MMO.

I should have said Cyberpunk and Steampunk are not a valid theme because your cant market them like that. If you saw a commercial that said, "Introducing the Next Gen Cyber Punk Game Called "..."!!!!" People would think its a goth dating game or a "Leisure Suit Larry" knockoff. it just wouldnt work in society. Underground yes, everyday useage, not yet.
