I'm having a ton of fun playing Rift. I haven't had this much fun in many years playing a mmo.

My favorite moments are those when I'm just cruising around looking for ore, kinda bored even, only to get swept up in some massive invasion that spawned right on top of me. For the next hour or two I'm combating scores of mobs with scores of other players and getting all kinds of nice loot.

Something simular to that happens to me several times a week. It's a blast!

Play Rift ! It's fun !

rift is great if your looking for the same type of game youve been playing for years. Really it is a good game if you like pre-bc wow or is just an old school mmo gamer. For me, i dont like it. Ya its great for the old school flair that i loved back in pre-bc wow, but i dont want that. i want something new, something different. Not pre-bc wow with a bit of other games thrown in. But this is just me. Have fun with your game, but stop saying its revolutionary when it isnt, and trying to jam it down the rest of our throats. If we wanted to play it we would have tried.

I agree with OP, the game rocks and even though it has a lot of what wow does it is also a different type of game that can leave you breathless at times with the events.

 Not enough money is put into them so they are usually even shittier than Rift. God.. I can only imagine giving a game like Earthrise, Xsyon, some other games out there the same amount of money as Rift and I'm curious to see what they come up with. It seems a lot of these indie companies can do quite a bit with the very limited resources they have compared to games like Rift/WoW and others that have a 50+ millon dollar budget. They must spend all that money on vacations and graphics.

Ive been always switching back and forth on WOW and eq2 etc... for years now and i just went for it RIFT and bought it on the first day of realease, which i never do, for reasons of crappy bugs and etc on launch, but i have to say i was very impressed with the launch and the overall game itself all i can really say is THANK GOD or GODS lol for RIFT. If your a fan of WOW you have to try this. 1 of the main reasons i like it is the class variation its great, so dont talk do-do about it till you tried it.

Rift is a great game, but not for me.

I've played so many mmo's just like it.

Like many others, waiting for a truly innovative game to come out.

I just think everyone has to accept that Rift will attract a lot of people for it's polish and "wow" factor, and detract others for it's repetition and 1 track theme park style.

Too bad they have too little faith in their own game to rely on the original design concept and end game progression rates. If it weren't for River of Souls, I think they would be sitting dead in the water in the post free month environment. In some ways, though, it feels like a desperation move. How do you top a world wide event like this? How often do you repeat it, under a different name, before the novelty wears off? (The same way the novelty of Rifts themselves wore off)?

Too many people are still playing sub-50, with plenty of content to go, to start rolling out World Events at the beginning of month two.

Short term, I'm sure it helped them hold onto players they would have lost otherwise. However, they seem to be degrading the core game, rather than improving it, so when gimmicks lose their oomph, what are they going to do then?

I'm curious to see if they learned anything.  Now, they've got plenty of time to plan, and make the meat of the event last a few days, at the very least.. or will it just be a one day thing, again?

ive been lvl 50 for the past couple of weeks and i have to say theres still a lot for me to do. i have to be honest though, being in an organized guild that plans events, premade wf parties, and dungeon runs is a HUGE help.

Yes and all those games also lack the quality, polish, depth, fun and excitement of Rift.

Earth rise seriously!?! I wouldn't trust Mashead with a penny of my sub money.. That game is garbage.. They had more time then Trion did to secure loans and develope a good game.. It's not like Trion is some huge company as Blizzard is.. This is there first forray into the MMO gaming, they too were a Indy companie like Mashead + Notorious.. But unlike those two companies they had a game others thought would be worth investing in.
