What the hell is going on!! I wake up this morning stoked and ready to get back in game and they have canceld it...in a matter of 4 hours...
And with not much detail apart form what I have read here is there anyone else that knows inside info...and why full details.

I am currently in a state of shock. In my opinion this was the greatest game i have ever played. It was everything I had ever wanted in a MMORPG. The PnC movment (I only like PnC more so for FPS, I would play to long on an MMORPG and thats far to long to be holding down the W key) As far as I had played it I have had no problems with it. I got stuck behind at tree once...and I think that is more so a problem with the graphics rather then the path finding tool.

The Open Skills system. I Hail from Runescape...that was the first ever mmorpg I have played and probably the onyl one I have actually seriously played. After playing that (yeah I know it is a poor game graphic wise) I needed a game where I had the freedom to build a character like this. No classes and this was the reason I finnaly made the tough decission that I would rather PLay Wish and take a risk and not go for the WoW as big of a blizzard fan I was and I knew they would never let me down. I so much rather the ability to do anything you want...thats how it all should be...make the game seem more like an actual world...Freedom...thats what it was all about.

Wish not going to be as big as WoW there would be a much better chance to establish the guild to be a super power in the game...will not have to compete against power gamers who are masive levels...not that Wish has combat levels. But there is a bigger percentage of gamers that would be almost online 24/7 in WoW then Wish.

And after playing Wish the biggest thing over all would have to be the main thing of this game that is going to have to make me strugle to find another game. Once I started playing this would end up being the reason I choose thise game over anything...all the other things was just an added bonus for me. When a plauge starts to spread across the world because someone didn't do a quest...now that is cool bringing the whole comunity together to save the world...it doesn't get much better then that...also live content brings the comunity much closer...Going into the game I thought we would be coming up with guild enemies really quick...but with everyone working together it is very hard....and the only enemies we would have come up with would be random people we would have killing up inthe wilderness open pvp area.

I can't seem to get over this...I haven't been so addicted to a game ever....with in four days I was so addicted it wasn't funny...I need mroe details...is there ever a way that the members can rally together to support this game...I would pay for it now in beta test...

This game had to be sth new("had" because I couldnt test it image). I am more fan on the "alternative" mmorpgs where you do not need to (farm, camp, or all that kind of crap for months and months). I pay for only one game at the moment(and could be for a long time this way). It is EVE online. The game is very good but only appeal to 30-40% of the ppl that try it (maybe even less) Ppl love it or hate it. There are almost no mid points. I just love it. From the full 2 days frustration(because of the less info about gameplay(no good tuts))  to the last 12 days of full sun rise of my game trail. I just couldnt bealive how profound this game was.  I said all this thing to tell you the difference between games. There are the "slashing games"(I call them korean lol) and the other :) So the ppl that like slashing are 95%.  Simple gameplay is succesful. Old concepts sell good because ppl are used to it. They do not have to learn new way of playing. And when you polish everything you get a game killer (WoW).  So WISH was "alternative" game and not polished. Thats what happened to it. VERY STRONG CONCEPT AND POTENTIAL weak marketing strategy and commercial hints.(Maybe if the game was in the starwars, startrek, forgotten realms, middle earth etc. would have been surely released )Or maybe they just needed to rush it  before WoW!!

Of course I still beleave that there would have been enough ppl paying for it. I am not sure if I was going to be one but ... damn I cant afford all good MMORPGS around  can I?

There were some posts like "this game is crap". why is crap ? cant understand the potential? dont flame pls play WoW  or EQ2 whatever.

i tried the beta...really cant say much since it was so lagged i gave up ,which maybe the reason it was canned.

  • raptorfalconraptorfalcon Member Posts: 126

man this sucks.... I was really looking forward to this game. I am going to be honest.. the beta test really sucked from my point of view. The server kept going down.. the lag was horrible.. and the combat was not entertaining at all.. but hey it was still beta.

The only reason I can think of for this decision is that the 1 server idea went down the drain.. and maybe re-design the game for multiple servers was just too expensive. I dont really know.. I think the company should have given more information regarding the decision.

I finally recieved my beta activation mail on frieday but had no time to try the game before tonight. Was very much looking forward to trying it out despite the negative feedback in forums. So I try to log in - no go. I go online and find out its been cancelled one week into the beta. OUCH!

I wish I had had a chance to at least check it out! :(

    I second that...

I would hate if those great ideas disappeared off the mmorpg-radar for severals years before resurfaceing in a new game - bring Wish back!

    Hello all,

It's really a damn shame that they're closing down. Even though I hated playing this game for various reasons too lengthy to post here. I believe that many people did really enjoy it. And that's too bad. I think the only really bad thing for MMOs is Bad MMOs. And from what I've seen and heard in the community of Wish at large is that it was a good MMO. Which in the end is good for MMOs.

    My condolences to Wish Fans.

I have heard game being cancelled in development and after it has come out, but not in beta.

Anyway it comes down to money.  The system requirements were very high for this game so that elliminates a lot of potential customers.  Most MMORPG have 1-1.5 gig CPU requirements.  This had 2.0 with 2.8 recomended.

Second EQ2 and WoW.  WoW brought in a lot of new people to mmorpg, but they also took it from other games.  Wish does not have Blizzard or Warcraft in its name.  It does not have anything that would bring in masses of people from outside of the MMORPG enviroment.  So it would be competing with games with larger subscriber base and money.  Then there are 4 other anticipated title coming out before it was scheduled for it.  If they postponed it until Fall there would be some coming out then.

While MMORPG market is growing it is not growing fast enough to sustain many games espically with some future releases.  In order to make it your game needs a good name associated with it (developer, title, movie, et.c) and it needs good hype.  The fantasy market is way over done.  I would expect that with the possible exception of DnL and MEO, the only chance for a real success in the mmorpg market would need to be Sci-Fi or at least non-fantasy.

Play your favorite games now because they might not be here tomorrow.  It would not surprise me to see in the next year AC, AC2, Horizons, and Shadowbane all close down.  They all have low numbers.  They all have constant declining population.  They are all in a genre that is highly competitive with more title coming out.

Nope, it didn't.. but my nine days there were more fun than the six months I spent testing EQ2, two months testing Ryzom, two years on UO, and five and a half years on EQ  - along with mixed and matched months or two playing CoH, DAoC, etc.

It all comes down to taste. I don't mind you didn't like it. =) I was attached to the game, despite it being just in beta. Rogues weren't implemented yet, so really no attachment to my character. I'll admit I miss my damn Donkey, though! Hehehe. Someone name a game where I can get a Donkey, and play a Rogue.. I'll sign up right now! I'm MMO-less at the moment.

I still think this is total B.S.  At least they should give us a REASON of why a game that's been in developement for so long just has the plug pulled.  It doesn't make sence.  None.

The only thing I can think of, is that the investor(s) learned how much longer it was going to take
to get WISH out the door (from the data collected from Beta) and they where like, Nope we're not
waiting anymore.. so instead of having another Horizons on there hands, they pulled the plug.

it's still BS.. but that's the only thing they makes since to me..
When are investors going to relize that it'll take 3-5 years before they start to see a return!?

I was really just beginning to get into the game, very disappointing.  There is a market for this type of game, albeit a small market, but a market all the same.  I for one am tired of the static story "level-up" games, I want something with a dynamic story and that is player inclusive.  The scope of the project may have been to large for the amount of player traffic they were seeing, or projecting to see at release.  I'm not sure how many people actually tested in the beta, 50k+ had been accepted, but I do know less than 20k were registered on the beta boards.

From Mutable Relams post, it sounds as though there were some unfixable problems between the game code and the server technology.  It must of been pretty bad to cause the plug to be pulled at this stage in the process.  No investor wants to see this happen, this is always the last resort.

It is never a good thing to have less choice in the marketplace, I always appreciate that people can enjoy a game whether I like it or not.  I would of liked to have seen MR scale the game down, change the size of the world, market it towards 20k rather than 60k-100k, rather than cancel.

Wish had some really nice concepts.  The Live Content was hands down one of the best ideas I've seen in some time, and was thoroughly enjoyable.  Maybe that was simply unattainable at this point in MoG technology.

I played this game and it was first time I truly found a connection with a MMORPG since UO. Believe me there have been alot of wanna-be's.

Mutable Realms truly realised the nature of a RPG and it has nothing to do with how you control your character. Anyone with any true RPG experience would remember the PnC days of Balders Gate and I dont ever remember having a prblem there. They hit the spot in a way only a true RPG can and created the perfect RPG land. I feel sorry for those that are obviously not capable of moving a character by clicking on the ground and that didn't give this chance the game deserved. When I first entered the land I would have agreed you felt detached from your character and the tutorial certainly felt plain and unexciting.

However the game had a story line that felt you were part of each chapter. Every day there was something new occuring and I was really getting into the whole gremlin connection with the plague that had been wiping people out left right and center.

I'm sure it wasn't to everyones taste but then MMORPGs always were an acquired one.

To all those that are as disappointed as I am about the withdrawl of this game, chin up and remember there will be another. My money is on Mourning (as long as you don't get complete idiots slagging of thegame again - do i hear the words Non-disclosure anyone?)

The biggest mystery to me is why people who plainly hate the game deliberately go to the WISH forum just to say it sucked. I don't like EQ2 but I don't go to their forum to post that it sucks, that would be childish.

  • SomnulusSomnulus Member Posts: 354

I beta'd Wish; quite simply, it wasn't for me.  While the storyline was appealing and the people in the beta were for the most part, more mature and willing to roleplay, the interface and controls were sadly lacking.  Again, I will repeat; point and click movment has absolutely no place in a dynamic 3D MMORPG.  That single item more than any other annoyed me to no end.

Yes, it is possible to grow accustomed to PnC, but the constant annoyance it would generate (at least, in me) would be nearly impossible to overcome.  In the long run, I know it would have driven me from the game.

I really do feel for the people who honestly loved the game, beta warts and all.  It makes me sad because the anticipation of playing a game, immersing yourself in the story and the feeling of community that you enjoyed during its development will never be realized in a thriving world.  Regardless of the fact that it didn't appeal to me, it did to you and the disappointment you feel is valid.

I will venture to provide the actual reason for its demise; they were experiencing significant client-server issues that the developers realized could not be corrected without a rewrite of the game from the ground up, perhaps even so far as to include zoning.  They also realized how unpopular PnC actually is and this would further necessitate a rewrite of the client and server.

While their investors were probably willing to support a delay in going to retail, the cold truth that the redesign of the client and server would probably mean at least another year if not more in development was likely a little further than they were willing to go after everything they had already invested.

Again, seriously sorry for those who were disappointed by this announcement.

Mutable Realms have given no reason to why the canceled wish. I am hoping in the near future that they realease that info. I for one was looking forward to playing wish. But now , it's gone and no one knows why. Maybe it was a financial reason??? or some other leagal reason. They only other game maybe, is DnL. I'll have to take a look at it and see if I want to play that one instead.

  • GilGadalGilGadal Member Posts: 29

Yeah also MMO-less and still craving my daily Wish...

I am looking everywhere There is talk about mourning and DnL they seem to be the ones where the Wish folk are flocking to.

I would like to know the real reason for the close...but it would have to be either one of the 3...Investors pulling out, client issues, or this legal talk with EA but who knows...

It is over and now I don't know if anyone can make nything that comes close to Wish but I will be looking

I was only able to play for a few days. I enjoyed the story. I did not really like the PnC. I could have worked with it though. I would have been a customer. I miss it. Maybe someone will resurrect WISH like Horizons.

Now the search for a new game begins.

EQ2 just isn't immersive enough for me. I can sit here and watch a movie, paying very little attention to the game, and still be in the top 10% of gamers. Just like EQ, really. Not much has changed that I saw in months of beta testing. I could be wrong, though. I never bothered to look at the finished product, I was too put-off by the beta.

It's not a bad game, just not my type of game. Their balance of reality versus gameplay is too tilted in the direction of gameplay for my taste.

The thing that gets me is they were near completing the game and going into production to sell the game. Wish would have been a very successful game if they conintued the beta test and fix any errors left in the game. Pulling out at this stage of the game is harsh. Wish was one game I was looking forward to playing as stated in my last post. I was looking for an email to for them to find out why they pulled out...some hint as to why. But, I think your suggestion of 1 of 3 reasons is why. Investors, legal issues, who knows, maybe they got caught in a copyright issue????? I know, that's prolly going a bit far, but, anything is possible. As for DnL and Mourning, I have not checked out Mourning yet.
