"The thing that gets me is they were near completing the game and going into production to sell the game. "

no they werent. The whole thing was a load of crap. thats why it was cancelled. i mean geez wake up.

If you can't describe what you are doing as a process, you don't know what you're doing.

Theres rumors that EA games filed a lawsuit against Mutable Realms regarding some aspect of the game. Only a rumor at this point.

Well said. They do owe us an explanation. There are alot of people out there waiting in anticipation for the official release of Wish. I suspect that mutablerealms will release some kind of press release on why the project was cancled.

Filing a lawsuit wouldn't make the company drop the project just because of that, unless Mutable realms knew they were infringing the rights of another company. Interesting rumor....

What are your oppinions on EvE, I think Wish like EvE is very much an aquired taste, if you like the Hack and Slash style MMORPG like EQ then you are probably not going to like the more "sedate" games like Wish and EvE.

I'm pretty demanding for a game, but calling Wish sedate means you didn't wander very far from town!  The game was sedate if you wanted it to be, but you didn't have to go far to get all the hack and slash you wanted for real.  I know of a few towns that were totally wiped out due to invasions, and the countryside beyond the roads wasn't what I'd call safe or even close to sedate!  Even the roads were only 'fairly' safe, as I got mobbed traveling quite a few times as well.  That was the beauty of Wish, you could have all the Hack and Slash action you wanted, if you chose, or could live a quiet sedate life of a merchant or crafter.  I've never seen live content handled like it was in Wish either, so things were always changing and there was always something going on.

I guess I've done enough beta testing that I'm forgiving on things that are 'in progress', but many of the things that were annoying at first got better as the beta went on.  Remember, they had 2 more PLANNED beta's after that one, plus time for another if necessary.  The Dev's were very responsive to problems in the game and fixed things faster than the majority of betas I've been a part of.  As a beta tester, I ALWAYS expect the most serious problems in the first few days.  Wish had some serious server stability problems in the beginning, but those settled out in less than a week.  Many of the bugs I'd discovered were fixed with the next upgrade, so the Devs did a really GREAT job.

I just think the MR Admin dept didn't give themselves or the game enough credit for the attraction of the game.  The reason given in a letter from MR to one of the live content moderators (posted just prior to forum shutdown) was a financial one.  They didn't believe they'd get the client base to support the game on production from the analysis of data from beta 2.  I honestly believe that technology in general is too far behind them still.  The average gamer's system just couldn't handle the load and thus the game didn't perform as expected, plus it didn't support many of the most popular vid cards, outdated ones, that is.....so I hope they simple shelve Wish and continue to work on it and improve it until technology catches up to them.

The concept of Wish was really new and innovative.  It gave the gamer an incredible amount of freedom to do whatever they wanted from sedate to death on a stick.  I was the ideal that WOW, EQ and UO have strived for and not quite gotten.  Yes, it still had loads of problems, but again it was still in beta, but even so, I think it's a shame that the gaming community has lost such a unique crystalization of what most of us look for in a mmorpg.  I understand that there is a group now, project wish, that is trying to keep Wish in the development process.  I hope they succeed.

And maybe don't get the rights on a serious amount of data.....and the question than is if investers still wanna invest in it. I hope they do, because i also had great fun in the beta and indeed problems where solved much quicker than in other beta's like RYL. I hope that "group" has succes and i hope to hear something about it soon.

Here's the URL, any news will be on there ( the site is brand new so there isnt much but stay tuned). In the News section it says they are asking MR for more details on the cancellation http://www.projectwish.com/

No copyright infringement or any other problems of that nature at all.  This is coming directly form info gleaned from the employees that lost their jobs.

The reason was solely a financial one.  The games technology was simply too far ahead of the average gamer's system.  They discovered this in the analysis of data in the early part of the beta, and realized that there was no way they'd ever get the client base to support the game.
