For those who are not a mmorpg Star Wars fan, do you guys get sick of the fans overly excited expectations for the theme?
I am a fan of Star Wars but never was for the online game, and now the new one coming out. I seen them growing up the movies, then in my teens and the last ones, kinda over the whole star wars thing. I just don't see the exciting factor there like you guys with light sabers and Jedi powers. Maybe I am more impressed by the movies. So what is the whole nerd excitement still over after all these years ever since SONY basically screwed your first one up. Are light sabers really that interesting over maybe Indiana Jones or Ghostbusters, now those would make cool mmorpg's.
Expecting some hate but nothing I said was hateful, just a question on thoughts if anyone else sees it like me that the whole Star Wars thing is over played even though it had one major title previously for a mmorpg.

This seems sort of silly in my mind, and since I know you are not a REAL troll like myself, I wonder why you'd think this.
There is Everquest, EQ2, and EQNext? or something being made. Is an EQ MMORPG getting old? What about the Perfect World copies made by that company? Guild Wars and GW2. No problems with those?
Two different games by two different companies with two different settings. One was a themepark sandbox, the other a big themepark. I GUESS you could count the web game for Clone Wars, even though that is just mini games.
Basically, No, it sure isn't. I know many of the normal haters will say otherwise. People that don't like SW will of course be against it. Those that enjoy SW will be for it. Those that are indifferent just really won't care either way.
There, all answered.
Well that is different since it was doctrinated into the whole market. Literally it was the first true 3d mmorpg. Any mmorpg that is pretty much classic fantasy will always be part it, even if you remake titles of it over and over. But a movie into an mmorpg is kinda a short road to begin with, however; gets lots of attention due to the cult following. It does in my eyes become a yawn fest since I am not a fan of the online format of Star Wars, loved the movies though. So just a forum to ask if anyone else seems be perspectively pointed in my direction.
It seems the light saber nerds are way to excited everywhere I read and see this and that. I guess each person views this differently though. But just keep in mind it's not original and started out as a mmorpg, but rather a movie series.
I'm not a huge SW fan but I do like the SW concept a lot: a rich, open galaxy with scores of cultures and races (from primitive to hi-tec ones), planets with very diverse landscapes as well as all the fluff that comes along with it: speeder bikes, robots, etc. All mixed up in a kind of melting pot. That is by far the IP's biggest attraction for me, a rich and diverse game'world' like that has a ton of immersion value.

Err, no.
There are AFAIK just 2 Star Wars MMOs out there ... one quite old (2004?) and the other going to be released sometime soon (meaning this or next year), so how exactly would it already be "old" ?
No, but thanks for asking.
I guess I could be considered a Star Wars nerd, but the prospect of a new SWMMO doesn't exactly have me gushing. Don't get me wrong, I'll play it, as well as most likely enjoy it. Still I'm not quite sure what your gripe really stems from. Do you mean the media play SW gets or are you only referring to the gamers you deem to be gushing over this?
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
Yeah, totally.
You know what else I find old? The whole concept of clicking left mouse button. With a finger. I mean, it's, like, totally overdone. Where is innovation? Where is other manners of clicking? Imagine the revolutionary concept of a game where you click a MIDDLE button with a dong! Now that would be new. Or - OR! You shoot your gun by squeezing your buttocks! Now that would add a new dimension into gameplay and no mistake here!
Come on, people, this thread is not worthy of a post.
/agreed
With the poster above me anyways, this thread is indeed not worthy. I find no matter of substance contained here other than "I dont like star wars mmo games, I dont want more made, you nerds." This pretentious standpoint definitely does not deserve its own thread. And being thats the case, you offered no other explaination for this thread other than "I want to find people who think like me, on star wars games." If you spend this much time thinking about it, that you need to find others who agree, well, wow. Thats like me creating a thread to find others who share my intense hatred of magi sauce seasoning. Im not going to do that, because somehow despite appearences I am still sane.
That said, Im not so big on the new star wars game myself. I may or may not try it out. Not super hyped either way. But at least its not another tolkein ripoff or FPS.
No, it will never. Cuz lightsabers are hypnotic. (no cooler weapon has been invented yet)
ZZZZ zzzzZZZ wdwd xD so nice
It made sense in 80's
Ever since they launched episodes 1-3 it became apparent how old fashioned and ridicilous it is.
Even Firefly universe is far cooler and more contemporary.
I just hope SWTOR is last Star Wars crap we have to endure
Well, Seeing how there was only ONE real Star Wars MMO that was insanely good till it got changed.. i can see where the hype is coming from. everything else is what people should be burnt out on.
SW has a universe worth of story that can be tapped into. How could you get tired of it? No different than Warhammer, Magic, CoD ( if you want to get serious).

I like the Star Wars setting quite a lot. It has all the diversity elements mentioned here before, but this version of the MMO game actually brings new stuff to the MMO genre. SWTOR focuses on the story, your story. MMOs have usually had very generic stories and basically have had just large walls of text that most people don't even care to read. I even find my self doing this from time to time... It is quite sad. Someone has really done a lot of work for those quests and their stories, but haven't had the means to really get the player into them. I'm hoping this will change with SWTOR. Other games are trying to do this as well.
On more of the Star Warsy front, the whole fall from grace and redemption thing and nature of the force is an intresting concept. It is a constant struggle between good and evil, between Jedi and Sith. This is a classic setting. The thing that makes this setting great is that between those two polar opposites, there are people, who sometimes question their belief systems and waver off their path... I like how the setting puts you in uncomfortable places to do some uncomfortable decisions and the greatest of it all is that there is no "re-do" button around in an MMO game. If you decide something, its done. I really hope Bioware will milk this cow for all it's worth.
And I just really wish to know how the KOTOR game stories unfolded and what happened after those, what effects did they have on future generations. I'm kind of dissappointed that they are coming out with a book about Revan, I was so looking forward to finding out the rest of the tale in-game. Some really great characters were in those games and I want to see how they ended up. What are their legacies etc.
The story man, Star Wars is about the story... And for once, we get a game that is all about the story too. I like that! All the pieces are clicking into place. Will play this game for sure, but I'm not expecting it to be something miraculous. I just want to play it for the story. I'm guessing it will be a pretty "standard" themepark game if you take out the story elements.
I can think of all the other threads that are not post worthy either I can name them all too if you like , aw hell might as well list them.....(some of them) but admit it people there are other MMO topics we can talk about sides the ones listed below we're hurting for new reading material around here....

And the logical conclusion: 99% of everything is cr@p.
Like Justin Bieber which is 100% crap.....
Well, You can recall that.. but i seem to recall every other 'big' title calling everything a wow killer and crap. so what makes tor and gw 2 so different
Cause IT's THE 2 MMOs THAT ARE GOING TO KILL WOW.........plus it's all I see in the forums anymore alone with all those other threads about the same thing over and over......
Conway Twitty needs no introduction.
Conway Twitty is going to haunt your dreams tonight, and kill WoW while you sleep.
Last year it was the same shit with Aion, i dont see it as just another phase... i already think im seeing the WOW is going to kill WOW!!!!!
For me StarWars got old the day they started selling merchandies at Toys R Us.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
Contrary to other MMOs, TOR and GW2 never did anything to suggest they are after the 'wow market'.
GW2 is B2P so it might as well be a single player game from a consumer's expense perspective.
TOR is going after the 'Made by Bioware = buy instantly' gamers. Which there are millions. (including me ^_^)
Talk is PR and PR is... well PR. But if you look at their business decision/game mechanics/payment systems both are going after a different audience. Will there be overlaps? Of course there will be.
Its kinda like Linux/Windows. Both are after a different type of consumer with small overlaps.

Informing people about your thoughts and impressions is not a review, it's a blog.
I watched some Family Guy episodes tonight on DVD and they threw Conway Twitty at me......
what MMO's ever do suggest they will take over the market. its all the crap people around that start saying it.. people will play what they like, and people will complain about what other people like.
