So you think WoW sucks, huh???

Gee, WoW really does suck...

... IN YOUR DREAMS!!!!

600,000 copies sold during the holidays. Over 200,000 players playing during the holidays at once.

So wake up fanboys and smell the fresh coffee. Stop living in a dream where you "think" WoW sucks... it doesn't... the masses have spoken. There's enough threads from people, enough reviews, enough game site awards to prove why WoW is a great game. I don't need to write, again, why WoW is a good game and should not be missed out. It just is, and you gotta see it for yourself.

Britney Spears, NSync and 98 Disease have all gone triple platinum I believe at least onec before. Do you agree they are masters of their art? Doubtful.

It's called mainstream and hype. Who are you trying to convince us? or yourself? Because no one realyl cares about 600,000 units sold. If youre enjoying the game so much you'd feel no need to justify it.

    GG.

Not to mention Led Zepplin has NEVER had a number one hit and only ONE song in the top five.

I find it funny that you go on about hype as if it can only possibly be misguided, and yet you're holding out on MxO, a game that will sell almost entirely on hype generated by the movies.

    Have you actually played MxO?

What people need to realize is that hype is hype, and acutally playing the game is the way to determine how it's good or not. People chastize a game for 'sucking' when they haven't played it, saying that the hype is overrated. Ironically, they too are falling for hype, just the negative hype surrounding the game.

I don't care if you want to play the game or not, just don't try to convince someone who enjoys playing it that it sucks because you've heard it wasn't good in a sea of people who said it was.

I've got a 51 rogue and 30 warrior on Mal'Ganis, and at the moment I really don't give a damn about getting those last 9 levels. The pvp atm is just kinda pointless and has no death penalty. Maybe i'm strange but I like having a reason to pvp other than random ganking, points accumulation, or griefing ppl trying to do quests. Not that excited about the proposed battlegrounds either...a secluded little zone that you fight over that has nothing to do with the rest of the game world has been tried before, in Daoc. It's not gonna make overall pvp in WoW much better, will only provide a distraction.

I'd rather wait and see what Mourning and DnL beta look like, and if Darkfall looked a little less like vaporware I'd be excited about that too.

Actually -- if it sells, its not because of the movies. The movies apparently according to the general consensus would be the proponents of the negative hype surrounding the game. So much for that. If it sells, it sells on what it offers, and that alone. The Matrix theme will obviously appeal to many, because it is, a cool theme. But its definitely not 1999 where you could sell things on its hype. Revolutions and Reloaded were not received too well, and as such Matrix hype doesn't hold nearly as much water anymore. But thanks for trying.

EDIT: For arguements sake I don't believe in this black and white shit where its either you follow the mainstream or very staunchly antagonize it. Black and white perceptions on anything in life are qualities that make you pretty ignorant. I find a Goth and a Teenie Bopper to be equal. They both conform to standards that stem from the ideals that they follow. Either way -- it all ends up groupthink. My point was -- make up your own opinion and don't be like everyone else who bought it simply because their friends were weak minded enough to believe in the hype, and since you trusted them you went along with it. You'd be surprised how far that stuff can take you. I played SWG for over a year, and its only because im a massive SW nerd. The hype of the SW experience surrounding the games launch had me sold as my first MMO. And WoW has im sure targetted and snagged a lot of new blood. A lot of that 600,000 are definitely fresh newbs. Most seasoned MMO gamers are able to view the game a bit more objectively.

You really aren't getting anything new. For some people thats okay, but for me who hates the traditions of old (and thus why I have never been a MMO gamer, I only started with SWG because I love Star Wars), its unacceptable. I'm not voting with my wallet to go through all that again. Blizzard is still weening its teeth in the MMO world, and they will likely make, and have already made, many mistakes. Mistakes im not willing to pay 15$ a month for. I did it long enough with SWG and I'm not prepared to go through it again. (Do you honestly think you're going to avoid the Class Nerf cycle of games in the past? With all the great old traditions WoW has adopted, come many of their inherent issues as well)

This is why I play The Matrix Online -- I love the theme, and I love what it brings to the table. It's not WoW, or Wish I hate specifically (well I never hated Wish just found it pointless) its more or less the principle. The fact games like WoW exist, they hamper the already slow progression of evolution in a new genre of videogaming. The MMO genre is high risk, high reward. As such it wont evolve nearly as rapidly as the single player genres have, and even they have taken something like 15 years to flesh out. It's going to be a long time, and games like WoW don't make it any easier. We spend a lot of money putting into our hardware, it doesn't push it. If WoW succeeds as well as it has now, hardware developers will be that much less encouraged to push the technological envelope. And MMO developers will be less persuaded to try anything new, they acn just follow the WoW Model and succeed. And even if they do, all th great ideas in the world require what? Cash. Who provides a lot of that bankroll? Publishers. They won't want to invest in a development model with high risk, if they can play it safe and pull a WoW.

Explanation enough for you? I Hope so. Happy gaming.

Good job on pulling shit out of context. The Matrix's hype doesn't hold water anymore, meaning, its not going to be the prime convincing factor in determing the sales of the game. Maybe you need glasses. I said if anything, it will be detrimental to it's initial sales. A flip on WoW.

So wheres my contradiction? I'm not relying on hype to deliver sales for MXO, if you read I said it would be the new things that MXO brings to the table, its gameplay, and for SOME the appeal of its theme. But that hype of The Matrix has been largely ignored. If you've read most of the ignorant and negative responses to the game they are mostly akin to "The last two movies sucked" so much for sales based on hype. It's not working on these people. And I never expected to, nor do I want such ignorant people part of that community anyways. We have a good thing going right now and I hope it carries onto the live game.

People play games because of hype? Thats stupid, why would I play a game because of hype? Im really not the type, something is wrong with you all that you need to fight over games. Just play the game that appeals to you and stop trying to say which one owns which. I find WoW fun it appeals to me in that it doesn't consume my life, I play it to actually have fun, and its a very fast paced MMORPG just what Im looking for. I think the relationship is some people want huge in depth games that they can play for months and still have a challenge for them. (which is quite sad to me) I just can't handle it, I think the concept is cool but I don't have that kind of time, I only have time for one life, and this fantasy world isn't getting me no where. Thats why WoW appeals to me, and thats just my opinion Im not trying to brainwash you into following in my footsteps, I could care less what you do. What I wish would stop is this stupid war on which games are better by statistics, oh wow 600,000 units sold, that doesnt mean anything if you dont like the game in the first place.

Sorry, but great technology doesn't mean great games. Great games rely on good design, artwork, fun factor. Nothing technology will inspire. Technology is just the medium here.

In exchange for all your precious insights, I'm gonna offer you mine, simple as they are. From what you posted up here, you're not a Medieval Fantasy gamer type. You like Star Wars, and Matrix, both futuristics games. That's good. You just happen to read the wrong forum then. WoW is a Medieval Fantasy game. You won't like it, just stay away of it image

And again why games like this SUCK for some players = ->LEVELING!<-

Most of the games in MMO-market are crap, beacause you need to level. And leveling is the most boring experience in games i made.

    Hence level is equal graduation.

In real life or better said the human natural way...
You are NOT making experience to get for example 50 graduations! You NEVER get your skill higher AFTER getting a graduation!!! (leveling games)
Or do you first become a Dr. then you start study medicine?

In real life you are making experience to get for example 1 graduation for your skill! That means FIRST you prove/improve your skill THEN you will get your graduation!!! (skill based games)
You first study medicine then you become a Dr. And this is what makes our life more exiting and challenge!

IMO level games are for "simple" players who like things to be done easy..... those players havent any high demands!

    Why WoW is players favorite:
Beside of any other features is the Mainpoint, that WoW has a huge community, because Blizzard is a very famous and traditional company. So they built up their fans by time. And now they did a good balanced game with nice visual effects (like others trying or doing)..... which more than 100000 of players most of them FANS are following. FANS almost eat anything and for cheese fans is cheese tasting more than just a cheese! (simple human nature)

    Why so many are following?:
all the other players "nonfans" are always like this, if yuo dont know what to do or play... just follow the mass!
Simply cause they havent enough experience in other MMOs and if yes then they played two crappy games and say : "all other games are bullshit" - stereotyping and prejudice. (simple human nature)

    What makes me different:
I played nearly all MMOs which are in Market for several weeks/month/years... even games like Fairyland.... okey perhaps not all got the money to do so.
But I have now good imagination of a good MMO and now I know what type of game I like and what type not. Unfortunately WoW is a game which is NOT equal my demands! Why? because I dont want to level! (my own nature)

So if you like level games and you are sure the other way wont be more fun then go on and good luck. I think at this state WoW will be one of the best choices!

    My simple comment.
