It looks interesting, but this makes it sounds a bit too cute for me. I like a more adult, darker game. The sandbox elements will make it or break it for many NA players. Will you be able to destory peoples buildings and property? Build your own and defend resources? Kill indiscrimantely. Then theres the possibility of the grind. Please no grind.
This always makes me laugh when I see it. people crying about grind. It's an mmo they are a grind. they want to to spend time, hours, days, months in their game. really there should be no one in hell to reach level cap without running the same toon in teams. there shouyld be no end game crap becasue there is no end in an mmo. its sposed to be a world. wheres the end game in life...Death?
How many delicate flowers have you met in Counterstrike?
I got a case of beer and a chainsaw waiting for me at home after work.
Regardless of any potential flaws, or design-aspects that might not suit one's preference, this game is at least taking a big step in the RIGHT direction. I'm not a huge fan of furies, or eastern-aesthetics, click-to-move is the bane of my existence, and if I had my druthers I'd probably want a darker world, etc., etc. But, this game is where I imagined MMOs would have been headed years ago, and I am very, very happy that there's a dev out there who agrees.

Optional, but if it's anything like Forsaken World's optional click-to-move, it's still bad because it causes WASD to be a little wonky. For example, you can strafe left or right, but your character actually turns and moves in that direction. Fortunately, the author of this review claims it worked well, and although he didn't give specific details, I still have hope.
How much do levels affect the PvP and production if trade skills? If levels are like most other games, PvP needs to be chopped up into "zones" of skill groups. And the same basic thing for trade skills, are there different levels of the same sword that one can make as they progress? These would be a bad thing, in my opinion, if that's the way the game is made. I prefer a more UO like system.
pvp is ffa unless restricted by nations ruleset. however killing friendlies increases your crime status. AS that increases and you go through crime ranks you might end up as "Criminal/Pirate" - a sort of "third faction" member. Criminals are hostile against everyone and can be attacked by anyone. There are certain zones, towns, locations in the world that are completely friendly(like irl tortuga was to pirates), however overall criminals are fair game to be hunted(there are talks in the community about possibility of npc bounty hunters traveling through the world as possibility). Theoretically being a mean badguy who loots and pillages everyone is ALSO a possible and viable playstyle and offers a lot of unique gameplay features.
Also killing someone can put you on trial(that is you have to attend "real" ingame court hearing and be sentenced for example to prison). In most of ways, killing friendlies is treated as murder is in real life.
AS for crafting, improvement and development of crafted weapons is practically unlimited, while there are restrictions on just how great and powerful can normal looted weapons get.

You can strafe and even circle your targets if you want. Its not like FW in this aspect

This.
who could have imagine it would take this long to finally see an online world like this, and mmo that finally has it alll...
I've watched many videos on youtube and have been blown away by what I've saw.
The game looks amazing and I love it, I can't wait to play ArcheAge!
Played: MCO - EQ/EQ2 - WoW - VG - WAR - AoC - LoTRO - DDO - GW/GW2 - Eve - Rift - FE - TSW - TSO - WS - ESO - AA - BD Playing: Sims 3 & 4, Diablo3 and PoE Waiting on: Lost Ark Who's going to make a Cyberpunk MMO?
My biggest concern is with PvE, where its majority seems to be composed by the standard questing system. I can only hope for the in which MMOs have NPCs with real, dynamic lives capable of creating situations for questing. If only games could have that much depth.

it is optional. The WASD choice is apparently very nice to use.
Time to start thinking about upgrades, I want to see some of this stuff in all its glory. I'm afraid that I am a sad old git who loves to explore, I leave the PVP to the young twitchers and tab heroes. Me, I want to poke around and discover the Devs creations. Looking forward to this one.
If the concept of free for all PvP (every man for himself) is basic to the game then we certainly will see a 'criminal' class develope, quite large from comments so far. I am just wondering about the 'victims'. What about those who lose heavily in this playstyle. I suspect that there will be many more 'victims' than criminals. That will not bode well for the continued growth of the game. I am still looking forward to the possibilities in this hybrid style and will keep track of it but with an overall FFA with possible (Bounty hunter/assasins) then it won't get my sub.

The standard questing system is just the tutorial. The author didnt even get past level 5. He barely hit 1% of the pve content.
flamboyant animations, WoW-esque quests and combat system, priests who can spec into Will, Romance or LOVE. i think this game is doomed, in the West anyway.

The animations are actually smooth and not flamboyant in my opinion. The questing is "WoW-esque" until about level 14.
Doomed? No one in the west wants player housing, plantation, an awesome crafting system, siege battles, a whole continent dedicated to PvP, a jailing sysyem; etc?
I love this game, but wish they had more options for crafting. Like the housing part and stuff, would be great to add a crafting system similar to EQ2 where if your not paying attention you can mess up or even injure yourself. If they brought a dynamic crafting system such as that this game will be beyond EPIC in style and content. I want to craft but have a dynamic crafting system that many MMO's leave out, just one click button and go type crafting is boring to me.

I'm with you on that Bezado. Its much more fun when crafting requires the attention of the crafter. I think Vanguard has the best crafting system going then EQ2. I would love to see something like that in Archage. However, I think neither Vanguard or EQ2 have made the best system so I hope Archage just takes that idea and takes it further. I can just imagine how a great crafting system like the one in Vanguard could be made even better. Heck, I'm sure SOE would have made improvements to it themselves after launch if Vanguard would have actually made a recovery and done well subscription wise.
The game looks so good. If it doesn't come to NA then I guess I'll just have to learn Korean.
I think they need to hustle if they want this game to suceed in NA. If it comes out in NA after SWTOR and GW2 then I think it might get swept under the rug (obviously not for the hardcores who have been following it, like us here). If they can release it here before those two, well.........

Yes I agree very much. The systems need more dynamics to them to make for a change that appeals more to players who want that immersiveness that these RPG's are suppose to offer us.

I disagree with this wholeheartedly, because this has been shown to cause casualties of throwing things out to fast. I wouldn't want my game to be done quicker and left out things just so it could possibly compete with another title. Not every gamer who's playing a certain title now will be the ones who will play the next title. You have to keep in mind that gamers and MMORPG gamers in general never sit still for to long anyway.
And is it really necessary for them to throw out the game faster just to compete against a game that has no guarantees of being the next best thing? I think if the game is great people will come, they will follow, you don't have to rush things.
So far 2 big problems that make me NOT want to play:
Everyone is soloing…even the people that have made it to leve 15-20+…still soloing away on their silly wow- style quests.
Insta respawn no penalty for dying pvp. You kill someone and they are back attacking you 10 seconds later. I hope this gets changed so pvp battles have a decisive winner.
So uses levels and is tab auto target. I'm out. DF if they get their next major version of the game right and relaunch has nothing to worry about from AA.

Just watched 3 or 4 vids on youtube for in gameplay footage and have to say i am not really impressed by any of them.
This is one I've had my eye on, so thanks to Bill and to posters here for telling me a bit more about it.

Watching steams of this game makes me SERIOUSLY consider playing the Korean release until NA. Even though I don't know a word of Korean.
