A friend mentioned this too me and I also heard of this date a while back but figured it was just a rumor. IGN posted it and from my experience they have been pretty good about their release dates for mmos even though the devs make it sounds like it's usually longer off.
Do you think it will come this soon? I mean soon as in I was expecting it a bit later down the road but I know they have put in a lot of work and I'm sure if they are releasing it during this date it's more than ready, but I really wasn't expecting it til 2012.

Placeholder. If its not on http://www.arena.net/ or http://www.guildwars2.com/en/ then its not official.
Yeah I know that, but all of the other mmos I followed and IGN showed a release date they were pretty close. I also remember hearing about a november release date a long time ago but that probably doesn't mean much sense I don't have a source.
I just started playing GW1 so I can learn the story so I wouldn't mind if it was released a bit later because I think it will take me a bit longer to finish all of the expasions. However, if it does come out in November I won't be disappointed .
I wish people would just wait for the official announcement and not link every random sites guess release date.

LacedOpium: "So the question that begs to be asked is, if you are not interested in the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you playing an MMORPG?"
Your right, forgive me for being excited about a game I am looking forward too. I only wanted to share what I heard, I didn't mean to upset anyone.
These sorts of sites NEVER lie to get preorders.
IGN doesn't take orders. Try again.
And they they were right about the Star Trek Online and Final Fantasy XIV release dates even though they weren't yet officially confirmed.
Blah blah blah. IGN is as right as gamestop/ebgames/etc. More views to their site if they post a release date.
Also, Who owns D2D? IGN? Gotcha. Try again.
It doesn't help anyone.

actually area-net hinted that the game will be released in 2012... and if you look at some videos taken from arenanet headquarters you can see that the game gave them a memory leak error and from what I understand it is very difficult to remove that so I believe it will be released in 2012 ... also the beta testings to kill all the "bugs" in the game needs a few months...
Gamefly owns D2D now. Try again.
IF the C.beta starts in October and everyone there shouts "ITS PERFECT" and they do the O-beta in November and everyone shouts "Oh? what did you say? I couldn't hear you over the sound of this awesome game." Then maybe in December 2011 they'll release it.
This is not a game.
the 11/2 has been making the rounds as an expected date since five months ago -- January
(and D2D was part of IGN back then)

its possible we may see GW2 in 2011
but officially ANET has not committed to a public beta for 2011
-- they have only committed to a small closed alpha and beta for 2nd half of 2011

Beta release still on target for this year?
We are definitely on target for a Closed Beta this year. We’re going to do a closed Alpha and Beta test and we’re totally on target for those things.
Whether there’s more than that? We’ll announce that stuff when we get closer

Thanks for the post, not sure why some people have to make such a big deal about posts like this. If you don't care or trust things like this just ignore them. These kinds of things turn out to be accurate a lot of the time though in the case of an MMO the release dates are even more fluid than in most games so less likely to be.
I wish that date were true... However people are more and more speculating for early 2012 release

lol i actually have a $50 bet with my friend over this exact thing. he knows i've been looking forward to gw2 for a long time now....this is awhile ago too he comes to me and says
him: "hey did you see they announced gw2 release date?"
me: "wait what...i haven't seen anything on that"
him: "yeah it's on ign"
me: "lol that doesn't mean dkfj, unless anet announces the date ign is bunk"
him: "no ign says so..so that's when the game is coming out"
basically we bicker back and forth and he says you know what ill bet you on it...any amount you want ^ ^ i said everything i own...he settled on $50. free game for me
anet will announce well in advance the official date and have a beta. 11/2 is not going to happen it's just too close. hell they havent even announced the mesmer yet x.O
If official release is 5 months from now then great. I don't see that date as being impossible given the speed at which they've revealed the guardian, thief and engineer classes. I wouldn't even expect the last class reveal to take more than one or two months, then cb a month after that and ob another month or so. While it's pretty tight, it doesn't seem impossible at all. I don't remember how long it took Rift to go from OB to release, but with 5 months to go I'm not saying it's impossible. It's not official however and ANet is sticking to "when it's ready". No guarantees that it will be released this year, but that doesn't mean they're not aiming for that date. It's better to surprise people with being early to release than with being late.
Edit: typo.
Waiting for Guild Wars 2, and maybe SWTOR until that time...
Yeah, if they haven't even started alpha testing yet then no way in hell GW2 comes out this year.
I hope they are correct on the date.
They don't to sell the game. You know how many visits we just gave them? Multiply that by ALL the game sites. Visits don't mean a whole lot, but in big numbers, that's what sites are for.
If only people would stop posting EVERY site that had a release date...
Yeah, you're right it's not official but games have been prone to surprising us before with release dates. And if it happens "If official release is 5 months from now then great." then I'm with ya there all the way .
I haven't looked forward to an rpg game, mmo, or offline rpg in a while. The best way I can rate this is by saying that I am looking forward to this game nearly as much as to one day seeing a remake of FFVII or Xenogears.
I feel like people frequently misuse the term "alpha test" in relation to video game development. Alpha testing takes place primarily within the developer's organization, only occasionally extending to small, exclusive, external groups.
Anet has outlined their development process for GW2 beautifully throughout a series of blog posts and news articles on their site. They have been performing what can be called "black box alpha testing" on several aspects of GW2 for well over a year now, probably well over 2 years, as the game has featured playable demos (beta level iterations) for over a year. Several classes, zones, crafts and other features are beyond their alpha development stages as we speak and are ready for beta testing. It's simply a matter of getting the entire game ready for beta before it can be released to external test groups.
mmmhhh... maybe November will be the offical beta release date then??? Just a thought..
To be honest I'm glad they are taking their time with this game and making sure it's done right, cause I want to play it at it's best and it looks like chances are high that I will be able too !
Direct 2 Drive isn't taking pre-orders for Guild Wars 2. The date is not there for any malicious intent. It's just an editor's estimate which is subject to change, and IGN admits that.
They also had Jumpgate Evolution listed for a March 2, 2009 release date at one point so...
Make games you want to play.
