Finally I think your last point is ridiculous. Rephrase your point like this: What difference does it make if they offer a pre-order on the expansion at all? I suppose the few that have to pre-order to get a doll, some cloaks for their toonz, and bragging rights that they have the expansion purchased before the masses do, it's a raw deal but really it shouldn't matter at all if you can pre-order or not. So why even offer a pre-order? If that were true and they were to offer a pre-order it would be just for the gouge wouldn't it?
I still play their game and I think they have some good developers. I like their class design and combat style. However, I don't like them as a company and I'm not going to speak positively about them.
It isn't ridiculous and your rebuttal makes little sense. If you want the extras then spend the extra money. If you don't want the extras then wait until it launches and either spend less money for it minus the extra shinies or spend your tp without spending any extra money.
It's as simple as that. Only reason people are bitching is because some want to have it all and have it now without having to spend anything at all. While I certainly can't blame those that would like to have that option; I can't blame Turbine either for wanting to make a profit.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
I dont really care what other people say. Interests and tastes arte different. I only know one thing. No other game ever inspired me like LOTRO and no other game kept me coming back for 4 years and actually PLAY it all this time. There have been slow times, when I've only played for a few hours a week, other times I've played for a few days a week, the point is that whenever I logged in it was always LOTRO, it felt like LOTRO, in other words this game always had a unique spirit to it.
Most of modern MMOs, you log in and it feels like been there done that, boring equipment grind. LOTRO in my humble opinion is the only MMORPG at this point that has a really good story flow. I know this will change when SWTOR releases, but until then LOTRO is the best story driven MMORPG of all time. Modern MMOs today especially the fantasy based has this STUPID template of standard features - PvE, PvP, Raid. I am glad that LOTRO never switched to this PvP centered weirdo fantasy game and just become an ugly clone of WoW.
Turbine did a great job over these long years to try and keep the game unique while try to cater to all the types of gamers. They have stepped aside a bit from their original direction - story driven MMORPG, fellowship kinda got lost in the middle of radiance and gear gated content, but switching to F2P model made the game actually even better. Radiance was removed and content is not gated any longer.
I've been with LOTRO since closed Beta 2, my wife and I it is, we've seen people come and go, lose interest completely and eventually gone for good, in other words, we've seen and experienced all kinds of changes. But it was all for good. LOTRO is still there and going strong, its unique, entertaining and deserves a few more years of our loyalty as life subscribers and founders. I wish Turbine to see the day when masses of loyal subscribers and veterans will march towards the black gate and put an end to the dark world of Sauron. And I'd be darned if I won't be there marching strong swinging my axe in their and throwing dwarven tantrums at ugly orcs and goblins.
I thought I might be tempted to return at the next serious expansion. I'm not.
First. All these Dunland clans and their diversity, one clan raising their dead, it simply doesn't ring true as Middle Earth. It is colourful and generic high fantasy. It is Turbine adding a region and then stuffing it full.
Tolkien was not high fantasy. It was low fantasy. Magic was rare. Turbine's "middle earth" has become a generic fantasy world. For those who read Tolkien as a child it is quite sad to see the uniqueness of that world get trashed for profit.
98% of all quests and content in Lotro are based off of the novels. That inculdes the novels Tolkien wrote other the the famous trilogy.
You do know there are other novels of Middle Earth lore right? Not to mention that Turbine is having to stretch lore out and expand on to make enough content to last several years because otehrwise it wouldn't take too long to go through everything in one go.
If you are a fan of Toklien's works, be glad there is any appreciation shown to his works rather than none at all I would suggest.
Really??? Well you'll have to convince me of that.
It's been a very long time however I don't remember any mention of Azog the orc king of Moria in anything Tolkien wrote, however the whole story of your character being in Moria surrounds itself around this Azog character that doesn't appear in any of Tolkien's books from what I can remember.
I'd say less than 50% of what's in the game is actually in the literature. Then again I haven't read much other than the trilogy so please share the titles of other Tolkien books from which Lotro is getting it's story line from. I am very interested in reading them.
Azog was the name of an Orc chieftain who lived in Moria from about T.A. 2480 to 2799.

Uhm yeah, the game is based off the novels not the movies. So they are very much sticking with the lore as much as possible and still allowing it to be an mmo. Sure things are exactly the same as the book (loremasters) but they are very strict when it comes to what is put in and what is not. (ie Loremasters aren't op) and they are very much rewriting their classes to make them more fun, easier to understand and more balanced (the cost of morale for certain abilities to be used instead of just the cost of power). I like the devs direction on this game because they are strict when it comes to lore but not so strict that it's impossible to enjoy while playing (AHEM thanks Blizzard for total FAIL on Cataclysm Healer classes).
Give the game a huge MAJOR update to housing and crafting, and maybe I'll consider playing again. Everything else thats been added? Meh.
Housing, hobbies, crafting, travel, store... all reasons I left , but the winner is the grind, especially for skirmash marks. It'll be novel to play Isengard, but novelty wears off quick and I'm stuck with boredom.
Like Moirae and several others who posted here, I see no reason to re-sub. I left the first time right around SoM beta. I left again many weeks ago when I was reminded why I left the first time.
I bug I reported back in 2009 was still there in 2011. Not a major bug, but one which required a re-log to fix. Go figure. The bug didn't make me leave BTW, its the lack of depth to the aforementioned aspects of the game. Crafting is easy now thanks to store, but hardly any reason to max it out, travel is great to some places yet sucks to others. Housing hasn't changed in eons, no more furniture hooks like was promised, basically i have one only for the two extra chests. You can buy more vault space now so those chests are redundant. Same quest premise, yeah, it follows the books or not, (however you'd like to view this arguement) same old , same old since 07. New places but no new mechanics or things to learn or do.
Please don't get started on PvMP. Rk rules Freepside, (Op'd, but who cares? Turbine doesn't as long as they keep getting new subs) Creeps and Freeps are NOT balanced. Example; couple average to above average creeps can take down a fully geared maxed minnie in under a minute, yet it takes 4-6 freeps ,( or more) the better of five MINUTES to take down a creep healer. Same map since day 1. Hasn't gotten any larger or different except once when they added walls to the camps and took away hotspots and added shortcuts hardly anyone uses. Rewards for PvMP play are pathatically unbalanced for the time you put iin to achieve the rank. NPC's still giving out level 50 gear...etc, etc.
All these are valid reasons not to come back. No, I'm not not re-subbing. Its possible if I hear if any and all these thing have been fixed, I just don't have the patience or time to play it anymore.
How about the 4 year old warleader bug? Its there still and actually gotten worse lol. Get this i saw a spider and wl running around and i engaged them and somehow when the spider pooed to slow me it activated the warleader bug and the warleader was somehow getting the spider poo slow on top of it so hes now invincable and slowed by the spider on top of it lmao. I was able to fight the spider and a black arrow came to help him and he ran through the spider poo and he got slowed to i flied a ticket and later i came over to creepside and asked them and said there tickets were closed and the gm told the warleader to log out and if he didnt he would get a temp ban for a bug thats 4 years old.
not to mention wargs and burgs going into the rez still and killing people. Turbine is lifting the crit cap on freeps and boosting the morale of creeps so youll have 12k morale spiders and crap but youll have freeps hitting them for 9-10k and the lowest will prob be 5 regardless of cap.
I tested on bullroarer btw i know what im talking about its going to be moria launch redo at roi lolz. Sigh at turdbine
